Worth a visit for the interior by itself. The tables and group seating at the bottom is nice for the social experience, with it's own bar,

A beautiful art deco cinema restored to its former glory. Run by volunteers it shows a wide range of films both current and old. Never dissapointed. They have a bar at the back of the plush downstairs area. You can also buy drinks, tea, coffee, beers, soft drinks, sweets and chocolates etc in reception and take these in to the auditorium. The seats are large and comfortable, with plenty of leg room in most seating areas. Fantastic.

We had a lovely evening watching Brian & Charles which is an absolute gem of a movie! It's so welcoming at The Rex and relaxed. Fabulous comfy seats, good choice of refreshments, friendly staff. I would thoroughly recommend visiting and will definitely be booking again soon!

Always five star. It almost doesn't matter about the film. The environment is so lovely. The ambience wonderful. Our favourite date night (or afternoon) is the Rex, a good film, glass of wine, comfortable table and chairs and a good coffee. Plus the staff are just so nice. Thank you

Great experience and value for money. We came around Halloween and watched the original ghostbusters and really enjoyed. The staff are friendly, the venue is beautiful. I am always on the look out to see what’s on so we can go back soon!

Always a joy coming here. We love to sit downstairs at one of the tables, easier as mum in wheelchair. Staff are always so friendly and obliging. Great to see films not shown on mainstream cinemas.

Fabulous place. Far superior to the multiplex cinemas. More comfortable and able to have a drink and nibbles whilst viewing your chosen film. Nice people, both staff and customers. Give it a go and realise the difference.

A beautiful and stunning setting to watch a movie with friends or family. Great for a date - the bar helps! No champagne but a bottle of Prosecco was reasonably priced. I opted for the seats on the lowest level so the screen was all encompassing. Upper level are traditional style theatre seating and either side of the bottom bar is called the Royal Box and also seem like a great place to park it for a couple of hours. The chairs are like office chairs on rollers but velvety, comfortable and supportive. Tables are small and you could potentially book two seats and end up sitting next to randoms (a table houses four seats) but actually, this won’t seem intrusive at all. Staff are friendly and helpful. The only thing that lost the star is the sound - it’s not as quality and crisp as other cinemas I have been too and might need updating. Either that or the film could have been the issue. Back again this month so will know then. However, if I am returning it’s because I love the setting. Great local cinema with diverse film showings - recommend

A spectacular experience. Fantastic prices and a great selection of movies. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. In a world of gigantic multiplex cinemas with terrible service and no charm this place is a reflection of the Reel Cinema experience.

What a lovely cinema experience. It reminded me a little of the Edinburgh Filmhouse, though it's much smaller and more intimate - and with only a single screen! But, where else can you book an actual table with comfy chairs to watch movies in an actual theatre where you get a little speech by the cinema owner, before each movie. I will definitely go again. Although there was no parking at the cinema, there seemed to be a few free places to park up the hill from the cinema.

Wonderfully helpful staff from phone booking to box office, seating guide, bar & cleaning staff. Everything was clean & very well presented. The seats are comfy with lots of leg room which was great for my 6ft4 friend. Can't wait to go again!

Recently visited, despite the film start time being clearly stated, the cinema allowed people to arrive up to 30minutes into the movie, causing minor distraction. One lady next to us was on her phone a few times, ruining the experience for those around her. Overall for the price you can’t complain but they need to check everyone’s tickets properly as I suspect some people walked in for free as it was not busy

Wonderful old-style movie theatre showing a wide range of fascinating films, ranging through classics, art-house, and the occasional block-buster to subsidise the interesting stuff I guess. Lovely atmosphere, superb nostalgic decoration and cleanliness, with relaxed seating (tables downstairs). Good coffee and alcohol served. Nice attention to detail, and the twinkly owner introduces the main features to give a useful bit of context and background. A great antidote to the soul-less multiplex, the Rex is well worth a visit and you'll probably come back!

Always a pleasure. Had a half day off work so snuck in here for a quiet afternoon screening and it was fantastic. Really shows how cinema can be so much more than just the screen itself. Friendly staff, great coffee, incredible seats.

Simply the best! Makes going to the cinema something special. Huge comfortable seats, friendly staff, good range of drinks and you can even have cheese and biscuits brought to your seat when the film starts. Great value too compared with the multiplexes, especially the afternoon matinees.

What a fabulous afternoon. The staff were very accommodating and Amber was extremely helpful. The food was lovely and plentiful. A memorial to a special lady was made perfect by all at the Gatsby. Thank you to all the staff.

What a great experience it is to watch a film in a classic art deco cinema. Sitting in a very comfortable chair at a table with a glass of quality beer is both a novelty and an absolute delight. Chose a movie fitting the venue and you can't go far wrong. The website is poor but don't let that put you off, the staff are friendly and the venue is excellent πŸ‘Œ

I do not enjoy visiting chain cinemas but love The Rex. The building is stunning and seats are like large, comfy armchairs. The staff are helpful and friendly. The bar is well stocked with good choice of drinks and snacks. The pre-cinema meal deal at The Gatsby is delicious and excellent value for money.

Lovely venue. We had our own table, hot chocolate, tea and a cheese platter while we watched the film. Loads of room, easy parking, bar and snacks on hand. What is there not to like.

First visit ever. Loved it. Looks a bit shabby from the outside and in the foyer, but the theatre is well maintained inside. Loved it! Super comfortable seats and a lovely 2 vars with snacks. We sat on the back row which is quite high, and will come back to try a table at the bottom. Clean toilets and helpful staff to usher you to your seats.

Never been to the Rex before - proper old school circle but a dining experience available in the stalls (we were circle viewers) I've deducted a point only because the screen was old school - could have been a lot bigger but am I being too picky...sound system seemed up to the task which was a good thing

The Rex is one of the best cinema experiences I have ever had. We keep going back as the atmosphere is superb and the film choices are really interesting. The bar is available even through the film and you can buy cheese and snacks which adds to a lovely visit.

What a treat this place is. Wonderfully restored Art Deco building with plus seating and full length leg room. Beautiful decor. Excellent service and well priced seats. Not to mention a great range of movies old and new. Art house and block buster.

Fabulous relaxed experience, what a refreshing change when compared to modern automated cinema chains. Comfortable spacious seating and lower tiers have tables and a bar with a large variety of drinks and snacks too.

Great atmosphere, like an intimate club. Tables and super comfy chairs downstairs, conventional cinema seats upstairs. The owner always comes on stage and introduces the movie with some fascinating details and anecdotes; makes it a special occasion.
