Unfortunately had to edit my positive review. Called the shop via telephone to check availability of items before I drove a considerable distance to collect. When I arrived a very rude young staff member told me that I had to stand and wait outside for 20minutes so they could do something else. Even after I informed him I had phoned specifically to avoid this issue. No customers in the shop. Considering I've purchased roughly 30 fish from them plus foods etc in the past couple of months. Really terrible customer service. There is never a need to be rude with people especially customers. I have observed this particular staff member being rude with customers previously, and it seems like this is reflected in some of the reviews on here. Real shame. I did enjoy going there to visit the garden centre etc. Been a regular visitor since I was a child. I wont be giving them my custom again.

Only ONE !!!! person allowed in at a time don't bother going if you have a life. Better try Wimslow garden center if you are looking to purchase fish supplies without standing in the rain. Plus no one in one out policy.

One of the best aquarium and aquascaping shops in the north west. Really great range of stone and wood for hardscapes. They have really interesting fish on sale. Great selection of accessories as well.

If you have fish this is the place to go, have been a few times now and find the two members of staff to be very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, I have learned so much from visiting here. We bought our tank and equipment from here almost two years ago, though at the time it wasn't in stock, they delivered it to our home and set it up as soon as it arrived in stock, and we live over 20 miles away. Will definitely be returning

47l tank is plenty big enough for the smallest goldfish they sell. Apparently only pond goldfish. Wanted me to buy the fancy goldfish instead. Thanks for responding. I phoned the centre because you were rude with your "like I just said" comment. I found your lecture confrontational whilst you insisted I buy the fancy goldfish. I wanted a 5cm goldfish and I told you that it would be going to my friend's pond once it out grew the 47l tank. Your response shows your rudeness and your other 1 and 2 star reviews support my complaint. I think the shop is over crowded, dirty and overpriced tbh. Your tropical fish section is closed off to buyers with a rude note on the gate?? We bought a small 5cm cold water gold fish from a large retailer in stockport centre for a fraction of the price plus all the other bits we needed.

i appreciate you replying back to my review but is seems you can not take any criticism which concerns me as to why. Excuses.. what about the previous visits? Next time I decide to (Bob) in And see the place in the state it was in I can assure you that I will take matters further. I don’t normally do reviews but on this occasion I’ve even made the effort to make a gmail so I could leave this review. Such a shame. Been a couple of times over the last 7 or so mths and the place looks so run down. The tanks looked dirty and unkept, there wasn’t many fish in stock also saw quite a few dead ones still left in the tanks they generally looked sickly fish! This place needs to really sort its self out, such a sad sight.

Went in today as I wanted to get some fish for a current aquarium project. I had a few questions about what fish i could pair with my current fish and the staff (John and Aimee) was extremely helpful, they asked me all relevant questions such as size of the tank, parameters and what else is in there and they pushed me into the right direction with some lovely Kuhli Loach. They still have some restrictions in place due to covid which is good to see as you go in feeling safe. Overall the staff are extremely helpful, welcoming and well informed on all the fish and aquatic plants. Their stock of fish, aquariums/accessories are full of stock and absolutely amazing and all in excellent care and condition This is definitely somewhere i would recommend going for all aquatic goods, whether your informed or not.

Worst aquarium in Stockport, Farther & son who run it come across like aquarium snobs & arrogant & not freindly or helpful. They have a extremely small variety of fish stock, especially when it comes to temperature fish. They sell more aquariums (Expensive) than actual fish.

The fishroom is an excellent fish shop founded on exceptional customer experience and excellent subject matter expertise. Jon and Jack have guided me from being a complete novice to having a thriving aquarium full of beautiful tropical fish. I would very much recommend the fishroom to any prospective fish owner. Thank you Jon and Jack!

Waited over 30 minutes to be served for fish but have up in the end as my kids couldn't wait much longer. I seemed to be put to the end of the queue each time someone walks into the store. With the spare time I got a closer look at the fish and they don't look too happy and there was about 5 dead fish in the tanks and some looked more then a day dead. Given them 2 star as the knowledge of the staff seems good from over hearing them talking to others

Great little fish shop, friendly staff, good selection of fish and aquatic goods, and contrary to some of the other reviews I had no problems waiting due to enforced restrictions. I phoned ahead to check stock and opening times, and was politely informed of only one customer entering the premises at a time. The staff were helpful and I was served in a timely manner. The fish I purchased are healthy and doing great in my aquariums.

The best range of tropical fish in stockport. Also had a lot of different shrimp which i havent seen at many other local shops. Has lots of unique tropicals as well as a selection of cold water and koi fish. Great selection of rocks and wood for aquascaping. Lots of different varieties of aquatic plants to choose from they seem to get new stock in frequently. I also like that they have a fish rehoming programme where proceeds go to charity, i havent seen any other shops that are doing this. Will certainly be back here when i need any advice!

My 8 year old daughter has wanted to have pet fish for a long time. Neither myself nor the wife have kept fish but it is obviously a big responsibility. We went to visit them yesterday and the chap we spoke with was excellent. He gave us a lot of educational info on what is necessary to keep pet fish happy and healthy. Also many more practical tips. He could see we are novices and he took plenty of time explaining things to us and making sure we understood. We went back today to collect the new family members, my daughter is for to burst and I am confident we have all of the information to ensure the fish enjoy great lives. Loads of products here and great variety of fish and kit.

Friendly, informative staff and a huge range of stock. The shop is really well laid out and good to see the fish are kept away from tapping fingers! 5 stars for the refill station! Never seen anything like that for fish food. Thank you for your help with selecting plants for my pond.

I love visiting this little gem! The gentleman who owns/runs the shop is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. The other staff I have met have always been friendly and always keen to help. They have a fantastic selection of plants, fish, equipment and especially hardscape material, including a section where you can mess around with different designs. If you’re passing, I highly recommend you give this place a visit :)

The Fish Room is a very special place. John, the Boss, has been doing a BRILLIANT job for many years providing his customers with expert advice and top quality products to meet their aquarium needs. Team member Georgia, who served me today, was on the ball, friendly and knowledgeable. The Fish Room is well worth a visit for all your aquarium and pond needs.

I had been looking around for somewhere with a full range of different aquatic pets. And breeds of fish. I called and spoke to them in regards to Vampire crabs specifically. As i wanted to support a smaller business than the big companies that have zero knowledge on the fish they are selling. The guy i spoke to was very informed and very honest about the set up required. I had already done plenty of research on it mysef and everything he said was on point. He only had one in stock at the time i called. But said he would put some on the order going in, in the next couple of days. Gave me a day to call back to confirm he could get them in and when they would be delivered. We were travelling over an hour and half to get there. When we got there we had a good browse around the shop and then enquired about the tropical fish as it was gated. But we mis read the sign. If you are a fishkeeper i.e someone who keeps fish you can go in. They didnt currently have the breed of fish i was after specifically but that was just a side bar to wanting the crabs anyway. I baught lots of extras as they had a wide variety of products and were very knowledgeable on all the products. When we got to the crabs i was amazed to find he had managed to get the all orange ones which i had been unable to find anywhere. Aswell as the purple and yellow! Was very happy and will definitely be going back! Both staff members we spoke to on the day were friendly and open with us.

The Fish Room is amazing !! Definitely the place to go if you want quality products and knowledgable staff to help guide you with any queries. Aimée who served us was super helpful and assisted us with advice of the best fish to add to our tank- which is so healthy and thriving now! Definitely would recommend to anyone in and around the area 🐠

Lovely little fish shop at a garden centre. Staff were very friendly and helpful, well stocked with livestock, plants, tanks, food etc at good prices. Best of all, little helpful signs and top tips to advance your keeping - it's very clear that the staff have a high standard for fish welfare. Excellent place 👍

The guy who runs the place is so arrogant aggressive in his tone and just generally rude Edit; I feel your customers will see from your many other 1 star reviews my point, your customer service skills are nil at best and rather than try to understand where you could improve and listen to customers you try to take aim straight back at them, as for my other 1 they are all valid and that is the reason we have reviews to get a feel for the service we may well endure, I run a successful joinery business and been trading for 20yrs but not got 1 bad review on Google, my website or my Facebook page but you have many.

Looking at other reviews I would be unreasonable to assume our visit was the normal representation of this business and therefore could not give just one star, our visit was a result of reading all the good reviews but we were disappointed with what we saw. I hope you will receive this as constructive criticism rather than anything more. Outside you are keeping pond fish in glass tanks. Considering the current freezing temperatures it's obvious this is not a good practice and I wonder if the cracked tank abandoned standing on its end outside is a result of the freezing temperature. On the same subject and considering health and safety, should this tank be left outside like that where children are going to be inquisitive? Back to the fish outside- some looked emaciated, and the tanks full of algae and debris. Generally outside looks like a dumping ground and uncared for. Inside the shop is well stocked with supplies and treatments but again the fish in the fresh water sales tanks looked unkempt with algae. In these tanks we observed one dead cory, and one dead unidentifiable partly eaten fish. As fish keepers of both pond and tropical, there is no greater put off to buying fish than seeing dead bodies and dirty tanks. More importantly these are living creatures and it is upsetting to see them in these conditions. Needless to say we did not purchase any live fish or aquarium plants from you on this occasion. Pictures attached of outside tank , broken tank and area outside.

Nice selection of fish, we just went for a look round. There is also the option to pay a donation to feed the fish but I suggest going early if you want to do that as it seems quite popular and they stop it when the fish have had too much food

Terrible customer service, was out right told I couldn't get a fish without asking if we was going to be increasing the tank size once the fish grew. This is my first time getting into the hobby and I have been scouring the internet for tips on how to give the fish the best life can have. Coming here made me feel terrible in my choices.

Superb. Visited today for advice about planting my new-ish pond, and went away with lots of really useful advice and various excellent plants. Very friendly and I bought the plants because they looked great and I wanted to, not because they were “sold to me.” Definitely the #1 place for future purchases.

Been to the shop a few times, but came wanting to build a pond, not knowing how to get started. The staff were brilliant, gave advice, helped us select the right things that would help us get up and running. Reasonably priced, would definitely recommend.

Went in to the tropical fish area looking for a catfish, while browsing (which apparently isn't allowed) we spotted a dead fish in one of the tanks which looked like it had been there for a while. I pointed this out and was thanked for letting the staff member know but she didn't seem in a hurry to get it out more concerned with getting the next customer in. We didn't purchase any fish we decided to leave. On a positive note the staff were friendly.

Friendly and very helpful staff. I felt the shop desperatley needs a refurb. The outdoor tanks especially. Now the new motorway is in place & the new restaurant has been built in the Garden Centre - it will attract alot more custom.

Looks like a nice shop, plenty of bits if in need of stuff and has a few more unusual species in the tanks that we dont see local to us.

A lively little fish shop with very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I've been visiting every month or so since last autumn and the tanks are always in good condition with a carefully-curated collection of species on offer, as well as aquatic plants and a good range of dry, frozen and live foods. My cardinal tetra are gorgeous and I've recently brought home a school of pygmy corys, which are a delight! Highly recommended.

I cannot recommend The Fish Room enough! John and Jack have been incredibly patient with me after some fish I have started looking after unexpectedly spawned some eggs and I now have 20 fish fry babies to look after. I have lost track of how many times I have phoned them for advice and how many hours of their time I must have taken up and they have adapted to my changing needs for deliveries etc during lock down too. Thank you so much guys and apologies in advance for any future pestering to come (although you never make me feel like I am pestering at all). Thank you also for the responsible stance you are taking on distancing and deliveries during this serious time.
