Lots of mix feelings.... while some of the staff was very helpful and emphatic the racism is a serious issue in this institution, I would recomend the staff to practice less hate and focus on doing their job... Since i moved here I have heard lots of people talking about their bad experiences here in terms of how people have been treated and the way was talked with them. SOME of the staf should remember that people are not coming here because they enjoy being at a hospital they come because they are suffering or are confused, if you don't have the patience to work with people in pain or otherwise , why work there in the first place.

What an odd little maternity ward. Staff on the MAU and similar places are amazing, mostly. Depending on the time of day you arrive (go at night, trust me, if you can). But despite going multiple times for multiple kids; wards 205 and 206 maintain their reputation for making you feel like the least important person in the world. Whether it's mixing you, and your baby, up with other patients, forgetting you're there and in dire need of something (ie pain relief), or just lying to you about your treatment. If you can afford to deliver your baby elsewhere; do it. Its not worth the mental strain of being on wards 205 or 206 for longer than minutes at a time.

My godson and his wife had their 3rd child recently. They were not happy at all with what they experienced. For example , when asked if she wanted toast she was given two cold slices . Their assigned mid wife was useless. She showed no interest until the head of mid wife’s came in who actually delivered the baby because their assigned midwife was too busy finishing her brew and seemed dismissive of her anxiety and pain. Very distressing. many thanks to the head of midwifes who thankfully came and saved the day. The four stars are for the head of midwifes and the maternity ward. Dread to think what would of happened if she wasn’t there as the baby had the cord wrapped round his kneck and was struggling to breathe. Their experience this time was shocking and really uncomfortable compared to their other two delivered children born at the maternity ward.

Superb staff working in difficult circumstances. So why not a 5. Basically it's the parking problems. We have to arrive an hour early to be sure of a space in time for appointments. Hundreds of people use this building daily but parking is wholly inadequate. Bearing in mind that most people attending have got cancer at one stage or another and are often unable to use public transport the parking provision really wasnt well planned at all. Well done to the staff though, fabulous.

My daughter was born 10 weeks early by emergency c section on 14th June 2023. All staff are amazing no faults. They deserve 100% pay rise if the unemployed get 1 give these people what they deserve

Incredible midwives and doctors, me and bump have been so looked after. Had a bleed at 32 weeks and they have all been so caring and helped me feel at ease, friendly, professional and lovely clean room. Very happy!

I had to come her under unfortunate circumstances but I was really looked after by the staff who were so compassionate and caring. I was worried about coming to stoke but I much preferred the way the staff treated me here then how I felt at county hospital. Thankyou so much to Di who really looked after me.

Delivered my baby naturally here due to the midwives encouragement. So glad that I did it that way. Aftercare was at the push of a button (4 night stay as baby struggled to latch). I'm still breastfeeding nearly 5 months on.

A huge thanks to the maternity unit at Stoke Hospital for helping my partner (and baby daughter!) remain calm, settled and help welcome our daughter into the world 😄 We met so many midwives and nurses, and so, just to name the main ones we encountered; Jess and Sam on the induction ward, Emma, Laura (student), Nikki(s) on the delivery / labour department, Rebecca (days), Danni, Carla, Evelyn (neonatal), Rebecca/Becci (nights) on ward 206 and the theatre team; a HUGE thank you to them 🥳 They made my partner (and baby daughter) very comfortable through their stay and helped in anyway they could. Helped my partner through the wards, fetched medication (mainly pain relief), introduced themselves when 'handing over' to the next shift, and remained professional yet friendly at all times. The only thing I would advise management about is communication between baby and mother departments as there was a few times where we didn't have an info about our daughter's antibiotics / injections or how long we'd (exactly) be in hospital for, specifically times we could look at being discharged from hospital... This was the only thing that made our stay at the unit a little longer than expected / hoped - but my partner/daughter were in safe hands 😁

I have delivered 4 babies there now and stayed on both wards. Every time, my experience has been brilliant. I’ve had mainly one or two midwives designated to me who couldn’t do enough for me. This stay was slightly different and didn’t operate the same, which is a shame as it didn’t feel as personal as my other deliveries and stays on the wards: saying this, what do we expect when the nhs is crying out for more staff and they are clearly under pressure to deliver the same quality care yet with less resources and staff to do so. I want to personally thank Charlotte, she was a student midwife who assisted me on ward 205. She was truly compassionate, empathetic and kind. I was so anxious about my baby girl and some health concerns, and I didn’t want to go home the day after c section as I was worried about her. Other staff made it clear there was a bed issue and if I’m fit then there’s no reason to stay another night, again, very understandable given the climate. However, Charlotte really listened to me, helped ease my mind and reassured me. Charlotte listened to my concerns about baby and acted on them and today, just coming home from the children’s assessment unit due to high jaundice levels, and weight loss, I’d love if Charlotte would see this and know she is right to stick to her instincts and she will make an amazing midwife one day! She really was incredible and made me feel heard and my baby girl cared for. Along with the other ladies who looked after me and my baby, Thankyou vey much. The baby doctors are incredible and took their time to talk me through everything they were doing and it was really nice to see them be so in depth and help each other too, while being so complementary about my baby. Thankyou so much

I've been to different hospitals and never in my life met such Amazing and organized staff. I was admitted to triage when staff after an ultrasound scan noticed my blood pressure was really high - > triage then escalated me to the maternity ward and my blood pressure was still not stabilizing and kept all over the place after a day so they sent me to delivery ward for the night to keep a closer eye on me. everything they did saved my life & I may have developed preeclampsia which was caught early enough I can extend my pregnancy a couple more weeks and gave my baby a better chance. Staff (both midwives and Drs) were very friendly and knowledgeable and very on top of things. Staff always asked consent before touching me which i appreciated. They were very meticulous in communicating with each other and myself to get the right meds for me and I was able to go home. I like that they try and encourage natural births, whereas my last hospital was the exact opposite. Also shout-out to Laura for answering my and my husband's questions patiently & the midwife who kept me company my last day. Staff here definitely made being in the hospital feel less lonely. Both my husband and I are neurodivergent so we really appreciate that extra effort. 💕🌷

A great facility with a kind, caring, and welcoming staff. If you are in labor, the closest car park is D, which you can pay and display. If that's full, you can drive upwards and check with the remaining parking spaces.
