I had a really good afternoon/evening with James in the Peak District. He took to me some really good locations. He was very knowledgeable and generous with his advice, which was practical and easy to follow. He even showed me features on my camera that I had not discovered (which he did without making me feel like a complete idiot). He also showed me a whole range of useful websites for things like weather and light and took me through some processing on Lightroom. The conversation was good too. All in all, I really enjoyed the workshop and would recommend doing one with James.

I have just come back from a workshop which James led. This was in Isle of Skye. I am so much pleased and happy that I went to one of his workshop. We had some amazing lighting conditions. Something I’ve never experienced before. At one location we had amazing soft light and contrasting conditons on the other side… the transition from light to dark was just something amazing and extra ordinary. You can never get such scenes easy. James plans very effectively and improvises to get the best value for money to his clients. He has a very happy outlook and hence makes the workshops enjoyable with so much of learning. Whatever your experience in photography, James will connect with you at that level and make it easy to learn further. I highly recommend his workshops and promise you will learn so much from him.

This was an excellent one-day workshop run by James in the Peak District. James proved to be very knowledgeable, not only about the composition of photos, but also about the settings on my camera and which settings were best for each situation. I really appreciated the one-to-one tuition I received on the day, and small tweaks made on James' advice made all the difference to my photos. Also, as a follow-up from the day, James has furnished me with more very helpful advice in the way of videos showing some of the processing he does on photographs, and also various, very helpful websites with a lot of very valuable information. He has also expressed a willingness to be contacted in the future should I need further help. All-in-all a great day which I would thoroughly recommend. Trevor Coates

James is really helpful and knowledgeable - I learnt a lot from him at his Summer Solstice workshop in the Peak District. I am a relative novice, but there was no judgement, and he was able to cater to my level just as well as he was able to support other people in the group, who were a lot more technically sound than me. His knowledge of the area is fantastic, and he was able to find the perfect spots for photography - all an all, a really enjoyable day!

I had a brilliant workshop with James in the Peak District. I thought I'd see a couple of good places but his local knowledge is so great that we got to see 5 amazing locations. He was really helpful in giving tips and ideas and knew more about my camera than I did. I couldn't imagine a better photography guide to the Peak District. Highly recommended if you love landscape photography.

I recently did a group workshop and a 1 to 1 workshop with James; both in the Peak District. Both were absolutely excellent. James is both a highly skilled photographer and a great teacher. Very easy to understand and supportive style, means that he gets the best from his students. I recommend his workshops.

I recently attended one of James’ winter workshops in the Peak District and despite the challenging weather, it was a great day. The small group of four meant that James was able to spend time with each of us throughout day and could tailor his approach to our individual needs. I found him to be approachable, easy going and happy to share his knowledge about landscape photography and locations. I came away from the workshop with a much better understanding of what I need to do to improve my landscape photography and look forward to attending future workshops with James.

A fantastic day i the Peak District with James. His teaching style is just right, it is well paced and he explains things in a patient and easy to follow manner. Always on hand to answer the same questions and when you combine his technical knowledge with his super detailed understanding of the Peaks then you have the perfect recipe. I am already booked to go back and look forward to some great results in a friendly, relaxed environment. Great Job James .......... Mark Webb

I just completed my second multi-day workshop with James, and have returned feeling more excited than ever. His tuition and ability to explain process and technique is terrific. Fairly new to landscape photography, I didn’t fully appreciate the extensive and technical differences between landscape and portrait photography. James is always patient and answers questions with integrity, honesty and ease of understanding. I have already booked a third workshop with him for next year! Thank you James!

I attended a 121 session with James, a very informative time with lots of advice and tips. We covered a lot of different aspects of photography which was time and money well spent.

I had a 1-2-1 Peak District workshop with James; scorching temperature, bright blue, cloudless sky... and it was a fantastic day. Using his expert local knowledge and pragmatic style, he more than made the best of the "difficult" conditions. We went to a handful of locations on the day and didn't see any other photographers. I definitely felt like I saw and experienced the real Peak District, rather than the tourist locations I'd naturally gravitate to. In addition to being an excellent photographer, James is the perfect blend of teacher, coach, outdoorsman and a genuinely nice chap. My initial hopes for the day were to learn something new about composition, focusing and to get a single image I liked enough to print. The experience far exceeded my expectations. I learned and fine-tuned the skills and techniques I hoped to. I have at least two images going to print. I developed my own editing style further following a chat in the pub too. I'm looking forward to booking more workshops with James. It's a far better investment than any new cameras or lenses.

Thanks James for a really great 5 days workshop on Skye. I learnt so much and enjoyed every minute. Your planning and timing was spot on, a different location for sunrise and sunset each day plus numerous waterfalls in between. Thanks for driving us round this amazing island in the Yeti, perfect vehicle for the job! Also all the top tips and advice on composition, gear and post processing. It definitely has encouraged me to spend more time getting out with the camera and those early starts are so worth it! I did make a few purchases as a result of the workshop (thanks for helping with the discounts!) which have worked out really well. I love the new RF 14-35mm F4 lens. Would definitely recommend this workshop, thanks again!

I was bought a place on the one day Peak District workshop as a Christmas present and was quite anxious abut it as I'm not a confident person and didnn't know a lot about photography. Most of my photos in the past had been quick holiday shots, but I wanted to learn more and buy some more equipment. I had no need to worry as James was very good at the one to one tuition and taught me a lot in the time we had and gave me lots of tips to think about. He knows a great deal about photography and is eager to pass it on, in some great locations in the Peak District.

James has an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of landscape photography. He has a lovely manner about him and explains both details and concepts in simple language. Very easy to follow. Even though I have been doing photography for over 30 years James taught me a great deal. Well worth every pound.

Excellent for finding about a host of features you've never used before for landscapes. Driven to various photo shoots. Walking involved after drive so make sure you pick the best workshop for your abilities.

I attended a one day workshop with James in January. James was knowledgeable, patient and provided plenty of useful tips on landscape photography including composition and camera settings. I'd have no hesitation in recommending his workshops and will definitely attend further workshops in future. The attached photographs were not taken on the day but were taken using tips, tricks and settings learned on the workshop.

Went on the sunrise on Mam Tor workshop and, although the weather didn't play ball (clouds rolled in about 30 minutes before sunrise!), I really enjoyed the day. James showed us some great locations and was very helpful. His tips and advice really made the day, meaning that I feel more able to go and get a good sunrise image by myself in future. He keeps the group size small, which is great as it means everyone gets the same level of attention. Will definitely be booking another workshop next year!

Had a very enjoyable day with James on a 1-2-1 workshop in August. James took me to three great location and provides clear and helpful information about camera settings, filters, and composition. He really knew the area and adjusted the day to account for the weather conditions so I had the best opportunity to get some great shots. James also showed me how he post-processes his images, and provides a wealth of information about weather apps, which was very useful. Thank you James
