Great morning on the Derwent River with Chris and Barney the dog. He was a superb instructor, very calm and patient and we confidently handled the canoe on a few small rapids. Would definitely do this again! Thanks Chris :)

Absolutely wonderful canoeing experience with our 7 year old son. It was a lot of hard work trying to keep the canoe straight and not tip over as we did the 'shoot the duck' or 'duck under the bridge' challenges. Barney (the dog) was the star of the show! Chris is an amazing trainer - patient and a great sense of humour! Pointing out to wildlife as we paddled along the canal. Thank you Chris and Barney - we will be back soon, I am sure!

Excellent canoe trip with Chris, brilliant instruction and guidance in navigating the rapids of the river Derwent! Such a fun afternoon!! 10/10 experience, and 11/10 for his dog Barney. He didn’t help much but was a very good boy.

Our group of 11 had a fantastic morning with Chris, learning how to canoe. He was very patient with our varying needs, and expertly managed to get us all paddling straight within a very short time. Some of us were even confident enough to play some games, which included swapping boats. Chris is a really great teacher and some of his passion for canoeing has inspired some of us to start looking to take up canoeing. Forgot to mention Barney, who is the star of the show! Thanks again Chris.

We had an excellent time canoeing with Chris through Matlock. As complete beginners he made us feel very at ease with clear instruction every step of the way.

We spent an afternoon canoeing and a morning abseiling with Chris and we had the best time. Kids absolutely love it. Chris was an excellent teacher, patient and such a lovely guy who made everyone feel comfortable and grow in confidence while we attemped to try something new. Would highly recommend!

5 stars 10 🌟 more like. Exceeded all expectations. Chris was a quiet, confidence inducing, guide to our outing on a beautiful stretch of river. Right from the outset he had the measure of our disparate group: (me) an elderly, garrolous, knowall and my wife, thoughtful, cautious, but always up for a well judged challenge, and our grown up grandaughter a quiet 20 something. We progressed quickly from controlling the canoe in stiller water, and moving in a straight line to negotiating some riffles. A lovely paddle down to Matlock, beautiful quiet progress, ducks, a grey wagtail or two, what might have been the flash of a kingfisher. Finally a tricky minor rapid under the bridge, just enough adrenalin rush to have my wife whooping from the front. We always felt completely safe, and just at the edge of our confidence and competence. Highly recommended 👌.

Fantastic! Had my 10 year old son's birthday party with Chris at Peaks and Paddles. Non of the boys had abseiled before. Chris was amazing, they all went down again and again and want to go back for more. Really good price, cheaper than most parties and gets kids outside, out of their comfort zones. My 6 year old son and I attended the abseiling at millers dale. It was absolutely fantastic, the instructor was amazing. Highly recommend to anyone looking to do something a little different. Fantastic value for money. We will be visiting again.

A brilliant experience all round. Chris was patient and very competent with us as total newbies to canoeing; especially good with our children (6 and 12). Lovely stretch of safe and interesting water to explore. Could not recommend highly enough!!

Had a fantastic time canoeing down the Derwent River, a brilliant way to spend time with the family. Chris was a fantastic instructor and helped us negotiate the river with no mishaps. Not too physically demanding and perfect for teenagers looking for a bit of adventure. Highly recommended.

Kids did a taster session at Cromford and they were brilliant. They would definitely like to do more (if i can be organised enough to book ahead as they are very popular and get booked up fast)

Great experience, would recommend to anyone who wants to have a go at canoeing with a bit of excitement, including families. Don't be put off if you don't have much experience, the instructor gives great guidence, sets a good pace and is very kind and patient. Don't forget to bring a change of clothes just in case. The river is beautiful and fun to row down, and the area you set off from is very near to all the attractions in Matlock Bath, which altogether can make a nice day out.

We are a family of 4 (youngest being 7 years) and booked with Paul at Peaks and Paddles. It is a lovely experience and the views are very scenic. Paul has a very patient, calm and friendly manner - made the process so engaging and with good tips/games to get you confident on the water Highly recommended and one of the highlights of our trip to the Peak District

Great time spent paddling down the 'rapids'. Chris gave good instruction at the beginning and guided us down through the trip. Patient with those with less experience (or none) and good with more experienced paddlers. Really recommend it.

We booked 2 activities for our large family group, abseiling and Canoeing this weekend. Both brilliant with excellent guidance and support from Claudia. Abseiling off 90 ft for a couple of 10 year olds and older kids in their 20s keeping us all safe and helping us get maximum enjoyment too must’ve been daunting but she was great, patient and friendly, enough to say we all loved it, we were pleased we had Claudia next day for Canoeing. Again very safe but with the emphasis on fun too. We all had a great time, with fun games and challenges. Again Claudia made us all feel comfortable and inspired confidence in the youngest in the party. Thanks to Peaks and Paddles our weekend got off to a fun, exciting start.
