so happy to find such a nice spot for authentic malaysian food, definitely the best in manchester! can guarantee that the food served is spicy when requested - coming from someone used to spicy malaysian food back at home. for starter we got roti canai (i somehow never had sambal in my dhal curry but it really elevated the sauce yum), for mains we got char kuey teow (came in huge portions yay) and teh tarik for drinks. service is superb :) 10/10 would recommend this place! wishing they’re open for longer hours though hehe

Just found my new favourite restaurant! Oh. My. Word. The food, the flavour, the service... everything was just absolutely amazing. We had the satay chicken starters, chicken noodles, and the curry noodles. Spice level done to your preference. Just absolutely wow. So wow. So, so good!

Hidden Gem! Can’t express how amazing this place is! Really heart warming and wholesome food. You can definitely tell it’s cooked with tradition and love for their cuisine. Me and my friend ordered the fried chicken nasi lamek, kind prawn sambal, roti and chicken satay (the most tender and juicy chicken satay I’ve ever had in my life! Omfg) everything was unreal, cooked to perfection. We also got to chat with Aunty Lotus herself! Everything in this place really feels like your eating round your Malaysian / Asian aunties house! Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back.

For someone that doesn't like sweet food, the prawn starter was an outstanding fusion of sweet, spicy and salty. If I didn't taste the salt I wouldn't have liked it, but this was perfect! The fish curry was even more outstanding! No sweet taste which was perfect for me! So much so that I'll be visiting once the open today, having eaten my leftover yesterday 😋 Service was friendly, amiable, informative, and very well considered. Really happy and looking forward! Enjoy the pics!

Went on weekday and quite early, as soon as they opened. It can be pretty busy if we were to go at later time (i was told on this). The food was absolutely great. Finally, I found a legit Malaysian restaurant around Manchester. Level of spiciness can be made according to your own preferences. Everything we ordered on that day was delicious and I would definitely return to satisfy my cravings for Malaysian food 🥲

Really loved the food there. It was very tasty and authentic. The hosts very welcoming and friendly. It's a small restaurant so the seats may feel a bit congested. I tried the Parotta and couple of other dishes. The quantity was a bit more so ended up packing them home. 4 stars because when we entered there was sting smell of cooking filled the dining area. The ventilation should be improved to overcome this.

Amazing Malaysian food. It’s my go to place to satisfy my Malaysian cravings. Portions are big and taste as good as back home. It is on the spicy side but if you can handle your spice it will hit the right tastebuds. This time we had satay, lamb rendang and mee goreng with extra “kerang” the satay is definitely a must try! Service is a bit slow as it’s family run so as long as you’re not in the rush you’re good. Thanks Shalini and aunty for your hospitality.

True authentic Malaysian food, the best one I have ever try in UK. The chef told me all their sauce are homemade with raw ingredients shipped from Malaysia, and I can really taste the amount of time and love they put in. A very nice family run business, can’t wait for my next visit!

Speaking as a Malaysian this place has the most authentic and delicious Malaysian food this side of the world. The Malaysian family that run this place are absolute experts in cooking Malaysian food. It is clear that didn't just chuck together whatever they could find in the UK. They really go the extra mile to make their cooking 100% authentic. This place is the Holy Grail for Malaysians!!! The Auntie and Uncle are super friendly and they really make us feel like we are back at home!

Been here twice. Really want to love this place cause its hard to find a malaysian restaurant up north but food is overly salty. Service is good and friendly. Atmosphere not that great, the whole place feels very cramped when it is full house in the restaurant.

Having lived in the UK for over 15 years, one would grow accustomed to restaurants claiming to serve 'authentic malaysian' food. The disappointment when a dish arrives your table, your taste buds left crying, and you kick yourself because you thought this was the one. You eventually leave the place disappointed wishing you had a private jet to whiz you back to Malaysia, stuff your face and... Anyway I digress! I didn't walk out of Sambal disappointed! I walked out wishing I had 3 stomachs so I could try more of what was on the menu. My friend and I were very surprised by how tasty the dishes were, the nasi lemak rice was fragrant, the Sambal prawns had the right amount of spice and aromatic flavours. The winner was the Mee Curry. Portion sizes were good and most importantly the flavours *chefs kiss* Thank you for returning my faith in finding good Malaysian cruising in the UK. We will be back Sambal.

Everything is halal (حلال). I love this restaurant to the core as you can see from the pictures. Mind you these pictures were taken on different occasions and there were days where I went to eat and didn’t take the pics. Everything is priced affordably and the portion is huge. If you regularly dine in at Malaysian restaurant in London, I promise you the food is 10x better and taste just like home 🤍 Mi kari, nasi briyani, rojak. Name it and they have it in store. My personal fav is their char kuey teow (as it comes with kerang), vegan rojak and satay. Decent decent food (real). Just make sure to book a table as this is a very small place especially if you’re coming in a big group. They also don’t accept card. Only cash or bank transfer.

Had an amazing evening with the wife and the in-laws here. We are from Malaysia and were craving Malaysian food so we drove our rental van to this small, but lovely and welcoming family-run restaurant just near the outskirt of Manchester city centre. We faced with a slight hiccup to our dinner that evening where there was a dispute between one of the waitress (who attended our order) and the kitchen staffs. This had lead to our order not being processed and were not prepared. We initally thought that because of our order size, they maybe need some more time to prepare it. We then asked the staff about the order after nearly 30 minutes and the lovely staff (who was also one of the family members of the family-run restaurant) swiftly communicate with the kitchen staff so that our order was prepared quickly. And just like that our appetiser and main course were being served one by one in less than 10 minutes. Plus, the staff (sorry I forgot to ask for her name) was very accomodating and helpful in getting our food served. They even put some extra effort into preparing our food in exchange for the slight miscommunication in the beginning. And the food was sublime. Could not ask for a better food with better company. I had the nasi lemak which to me taste similar to back home. The richness of the coconut rice and the spiciness of the sambal was spot on. A truly worthy food for its restaurant name. My family also enjoyed their food. You can even customise the level of spiciness to your liking. The environment plus the food really remind me of home. Overall had a fantastic evening in the restaurant. Minus the slight hiccup in the beginning, in exchange to some amazing food and welcoming staff had made my evening an evening to remember. This restaurant really live up to its name. To whoever took our order that evening, I wish you the best of luck in your future endevour. And to this family-run restaurant, I wish you all the best in your business. Hopefully it will grow into a much bigger success and flourish in the future. I hope that my taste bud will cross path with your food again.

AMAZING experience at this place. It is only a small restaurant located slightly on the outskirts of manchester, however the food and the service is top notch. Legit authentic taste of malaysian cuisine, the nasi lemak with lamb rendang was the best I've had in all UK, and the char kuey teow was 10/10. The food probably taste even better than some of the restaurants back in Malaysia! Thank you Auntie Lotus and Syahmini - we will be back soon. Jarred & Rowena

The staff were lovely and friendly and made the experience so much better. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic malaysian traditional food. Will be coming again in the future. Thanks!

We went Malaysia a few years ago and we ate plenty and @sambalmcr bought all our food memories flooding back - truly authentic Malaysian food with the auntie walking around checking on you to give it that extra personal touch All the items were really good sized portions and all were truly delicious. The Roti Cannai [£5] is a flaky paratha-type roti with a tasty Dhaal (lentil soup) & sambal (chilli sauce). The Malaysian Chicken Satay [£7.95] was oh so delicious with juicy chicken and plenty of sweet, chilli peanut sauce Spicy was the hearty Chicken Nasi Goreng [£8.90] and creamy coconutty was the Lamb Rendang Nasi Lemak [£11] - both of these tasted amazing the next day, if not even better with the spices marinated And of course, we had to have the Teh Tarik [£2.50] - absolutely perfect (ask for it to be less sweet because the condensed milk is sweet enough)

Don't think twice..... If you like South East Asian food... Just go. Every dish is fabulous. Generous portions, reasonably priced and soooo tasty. If your not into spicy, then there is a fish and chip shop opposite. Although you can choose your heat

This is by far the best Malaysian food I’ve tasted anywhere, the food was amazing from the first to the last spoon. The food was soo good I ended up ordering for two house holds I’ll definitely be coming back here again very soon. If only Sheffield had a place like this. 😍😍😍

Great little place with great food. Had a spread of dishes and the flavours and heat were perfect. Good sized portions and a nice laid back feel. Nice set of people running it. The lady (owner?) Came out and had a chat. Will definitely return, really good value

This is my go to place for Malaysian food and it has never let me down every time I have been there. Authentic food, very tasty and spicy. Recommend that for most people you go for low or medium heat at most unless you can handle extreme heat. Owners are the nicest people you could hope to meet. Highly recommend you try this place if you are in the area or can get there - you won't regret it.

2.5 Have been to this restaurant twice now and both times have had a less than average experience. The good: - the roti cinai with the chicken curry was amazing. - decent portion sizes The bad: - very very long waiting time both times I went. The time difference between the starters and the mains coming out was an hour. The two mains came out at completely different times and were lukewarm. - payment system is very inconvenient and did not let us split the bill. - cutlery is all mismatched and not well cleaned - didn’t have any real glasses for the drinks and instead we were served in plastic cups - seem to be very understaffed and overbooked for a restaurant of their size - the food was a hit or miss. The fried rice was very flavourless and just full of green chillis and spice instead. - tables are sat very close to each other so can’t converse comfortably. - portion of meat that came with the beef randang was v small.

Food itself was fantastic. Service wasn't the greatest as we were getting our starters after we've gotten the mains. And our drinks came towards the end of the meal. And we asked for some cutlery, which came at the end of our starters. Service aside, the food is amazing and you won't be dissapointed

Food and service was excellent. Flavours are on point for every dish, similar to roti King in london. They also gave us a complimentary stir fried rice to try. Thank you for the hospitality

So happy to find this place. We drove past yesterday and randomly spotted it, and decided to come in for Sunday evening. Turns out that the family used to run Lotus in Northenden which we used to visit regularly. The food is even better than I remember from Lotus. Curry mee is super amazing. Perfect blend of rich coconut milk, spices and generous ingredients. My friend's Ayam Masak Merah is at least as good as any Malay auntie's version. Tender chicken, tasty sauce, so yummy. Trust me, I'm Singaporean and very food obsessed. Service was friendly and kind. The proprietor and server were very engaging with their customers. This is a family run place with the love of food at its heart. I'm writing this review while still in the restaurant because I can't wait to share this with the world. They deserve every success. I wish I could give 8 stars but Google only allows 5 stars maximum. Can't wait to come back again.

Really fantastic food and superb customer service. You might have to wait a while, but the food is definitely worth it! We ordered the banana leaf set meal with the lamb curry and also the mee curry (curry noodles) and ayam goreng (fried chicken). Everything was so delicious, the chicken beautifully crisp, and the mee curry just a wonderfully spiced bowl of happiness.

Met up with friends following their recommendation of this place. Wow! There is finally a place that serves some authentic Malaysian dishes in Manchester. My OH and I ordered Nasi Lemak with Lamb Rendang (£11) and Seafood Mee Goreng Mamak (£10). Faultless. They were flavoursome and generous in portion. We asked for 'Hell' hotness and it was done as stated. Perfect for those fire-eaters! Service was friendly throughout but can be a tad slow. However, it's worth the wait for good food. There are some parking spaces right outside the restaurant and for free. Thank you aunty and all.

Went to Sambal with friends and family, for some of us including myself it was our first time there after a friend recommendation (a real Malaysian😂) - Definitely wasn't disappointed, the food was absolutely delicious and authentic (very decent portion sizes) and the staff/atmosphere was very welcoming and wholesome! We'll be back to try new dishes🍽️
