Fantastic place! My Son was born here. All the doctors and midwives here are really amazing, very professional and helpful. My wife was quite happy with the overall experience she had. In short, if you are going to have your baby here, just know that you are in safest of the hands with the best possible facilities.

Westburn ward is a joke! They have sent myself and others away in dangerous situations by not performing the necessary examinations to see if a woman is dilated, how much she is dilated, if she’s close to pushing stage or how far apart the contractions are and if the baby is in a safe position. Quick to tell you that you don’t need to come into the ward which could potentially leave women and unborn babies at risk at home. However, did address a UTI problem I was having some months ago and dealt with it fine. Left me contracting for 4 days when I was having my son, without checking my dilation or the baby’s position before realising he was back to back and stuck which can cause distress and still birth or health problems if unaddressed. My own health was compromised as the pain put me into shock, I was badly dehydrated, sleep deprived and eventually started to pass out with the stress my body was under and didn’t even tell me the dangers of their mistake or even admit they made one. Just acted like everything has been done correctly and I had nothing to worry about. I didn’t feel safe until they finally sent me to the labour ward. The issue could be the wards reliance on untrained staff taking phone calls and left to decide if admission is required or not. The ward is always empty so they can’t claim they’re over worked and under staffed. Labour ward, happy to see you if Westburn turn you away. More concerned with the safety of mother and baby than the extra work load they’ll have. Have seen me twice now with my second pregnancy when Westburn wouldn’t and both times found issues that could have been missed had I not seen them so I fully trust them to look after me when I go and give birth in 4 weeks. God knows how many mothers and children have suffered due to Westburn or why they get away with it. 5 star to labour ward 0 star to Westburn

I loved the midwifes amd doctors in labor ward! Amazing experiance with really difficult labor! But after i given birth i was placed at ashgrove ward for the night.. girls from night shift are very lazy, mean, ignorant and rude. I couldnt move and take care of my baby myself and they juat ignored me the whole time.

Thank you so much to all the staff at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital! My wife had the easiest pregnancy ever and we were completely complacent to the fact that there would be as many complications as we encountered. I won't go into huge amounts of detail but my wife's blood pressure spiked overnight and problems started the next morning, we called triage who advised us to come straight in and from the moment my wife arrived we were taken care of at an incredible level. The nurse thought the machine for reading blood pressure was broken and switched it out, only to find the other machine gave the same reading. From that point the level of care was unfaltering. For over 24 hours many nurses, several Doctors and the Midwife tended to my wife's every need. Things weren't going as they should and despite the many complications the staff were professional, calming and reassuring and it was evident from start to finish that they had my wife and baby's best interests at heart. With on-going medical problems making a natural birth unsafe, an emergency c-section was agreed. Within an hour we were in the theatre and despite our Midwife's shift being finished over an hour prior to my Son being born, she refused to leave until she had seen him arrive safely which was very touching. After birth there were further complications for both wife and baby with baby being rushed to ICU and my wife spending over a week in hospital due to complications. The staff were just incredible and for all the flak the NHS gets from people, I have to say I cannot find anything bad to say about the level of care my wife and baby received at the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. I am forever grateful to the staff there for what they do and thank them kindly for not only looking after my wife and kid but also myself as there were several times when staff took it upon themselves to get me to lie down and sleep, get me water and just generally look after my wellbeing during what was the most terrifying and mentally draining period of my life. Truly we can't be any more grateful to everyone involved and the level of care received.

Not the greatest of help don't know how on earth those paper thin sheets are to keep you warm at night. The length of time they have you wait it's ridiculous.. Dont recommend

I gave Birth at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital by being induced 5 weeks ago and was there for a week due to my daughter having to go to special baby care unit. I had a extremely positive experience through all aspects of care by all the caring and efficeint staff which stay with me forever. All the staff from Midwife/Student Midwife whilst in labour were encouraging and supportive to me. As, I went to theatre for an Emergeny section the whole team were amazing and caring as I was uncomfortable and being sick especially the theatre nurse and anesthetist. The obstetrician was great too. Our baby had to go to the Neonatal special baby care unit for several days and the staff made myself and husband feel at Ease and made a stressful time into a more calm time. All the midwives/maternity care assistants, nursery nurses , praditricians were fantastic and were polite even when they were clearly busy which I value highly in the Summerfield maternity ward. The maternity care assistants were pro active assisting with breastfeeding advice and I could hear them being helpful to others on the Summerfield ward. Overall I was highly satisfied wity our high level of care and so was my husband. I just hope the maternity hospital is modernized soon to match the high level of care I received. Thanks to all.

Each and every member of staff is polite, professional and compassionate. Probably the best example in the country, if not the world.

I recently had my baby in the midwife led unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. Although my labour was long and hard, I cannot fault the staff at the MLU. They were fantastic! They made the whole experience so incredible and made me feel completely at home, safe and extremely well looked after. I was extremely well supported after the birth and was able to stay as long as I needed (around 36h). My babies care was second to none as well. I highly recommend the Midwife Led Unit.

Staff great. Building not so great new one one the way. The parking for this hospital is absolutely atrocious. And one final point I do feel that it is sadly underfunded (maternity hospitals as a whole).

Just had my first baby at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and I cannot fault the care that I recieved there. No question was a silly question and I was reassured whenever I felt unsure about anything to do with my gorgeous son. I just think they are very very understaffed but the ladies do their very best to care for everyone individually. Thank you again xx

Staff were very supportive and helpful throughout. Wards are very busy so staff are often stretched, but all interactions were very good and helpful. Special shout out to the labour ward who did a magnificent job of the delivery. :)

We received an unbelievably wonderful and professional service from midwifes, surgeons, nurses, other staff at Neonatal unit and other wards. We'll never be able to thank everyone there enough. As long as the NHS has the kind of staff that's in the Royal we will be well looked after 💙
