This restaurant is a gem, one may compare it to a diamond. The cuisine here is as excellent as ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna, not as good as ‘Diamonds and Pearls’ by Prince but certainly miles better than ‘Diamonds’ by Sam Smith. This diamond (Mattancherry Canton) should be ‘forever!’ The customers that support them shine bright like a diamond, whether you are ‘white’ or ‘a girl’s best friend,’ or ‘from Sierra Leone’ or ‘on the water’, keep up the support. Good job Mattancherry Canton; just keep ‘dancing’ and please ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond!’

This is a gem of a find in Canton! came with a large party on Friday night and we all enjoyed the evening immensely. Cozy interior with a newly added beer garden which will be a great space in the summer. I had the Baji Basket for Starter (divine) & the Mattancherry Vegetarian Special Thali for main (outstanding). Overall great value for money, large portion sizes and the staff were so friendly, we were made to feel really welcome. Will definitely be returning!

I visited Mattancherry this evening with a group of colleagues. They were able to accommodate us at short notice and were very welcoming. The food was excellent — I had the vegan thali which I would recommend. The outdoor seating area was lovely too. Service was great despite them being swamped with multiple groups from the same conference we were at. Highly recommend!

Karala kitchen plus other dishes Punjabi, Biryani. Great atmosphere super cosy and the service is lovely.

Go here, eat the Thali, have an excellent time. The taste of each curry showed the time that had been taken to cook them, and the freshly cooked bread and sharp pickles bring it all together. Great value, great staff, can’t recommend enough.

Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants in the Cardiff area, if not the best. If you wish to try authentic Kerala food, this is the place to be at! 5 star in every aspects - Customer service, food, the menu, ambience and 100% worth the money. Special thanks to the manager Ram for being an amazing host. The Mattancherry outlet in Taunton might have more variety in their menu if you’re looking for Authentic Kerala options, but the menu here is amazing anyway - with the dishes all being exotic and yummy. My picks: Fish fry starter, Biriyani (Chicken/ Lamb), Beef roast/ curry. The veg options are also probably the best in the town. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ customer service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ non-veg menu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ veg menu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ value for money My verdict: #1 recommended spot for Indian food in Cardiff.

The most authentic Indian cuisine place I have ever dined at for years. My friends and I had Lamb and Chicken Biryani, Paneer Makhani, Seafood Thali and Fish Curry. The portion is generous and the service is good. 5 star hygiene is a plus too. I hope to get back here once more before getting back to London.

I had an amazing experience while my visit to Cardiff. The owner of the restaurant is the most friendly man, running nice and clean restaurant near Cardiff centre and the food I tried was really amazing. I will come back on the next visit to Cardiff and honestly recommend!

The owner is the most charming man who really made our experience special! It was our last night in Wales and we really wanted a decent curry before heading back to Berlin - the food was wonderfully spiced and really interesting as well! The masala dosa is an absolute must! 😍

A great Indian restaurant with a lot of tasty choices. I have been here several times, and it's definitively the best Indian restaurant in Cardiff. Staff is very friendly, service is quick, and the atmosphere is magic. Warmly suggested!

Excellent food choices, you could have a good family time. Cozy place to hangout with friends and family.Friendly staff, Mr Ramachandran will take care of your food needs, to suit your palate.Mainly Indian cuisine, their lunch thali, biryani and Malabar porota will give memories from India. Their garden dining is a perfect place for small party.

Great food, and amazing service overall. A few issues - I got served the incorrect drink a couple of times and felt a bit cramped on the small tables. The staff were so nice though and the food was wonderful.

This is my 3rd time at Mattancherry in Cardiff and I’m still blown away by the quality of the food and the best service anywhere. The food is well spiced and you can adapt the level on request. Can’t recommend highly enough 👏

Cant praise this place enough! Atmosphere is great, really stylish. But the food you will definitely come back for again. Absolutely delicious! Service was great and so friendly, all his recommendations were great when we were trying different dishes. We will definitely be back for the delicious food!

Delicious food, friendly service and a great atmosphere. Three of us got the Thalis (veg, fish, meat) and each one was really delicious and authentic. Amazing starters of samosa chaat and dosa. Will definitely be back!

Don't often leave reviews but had to for here, absolutely brilliant service and the food is fantastic. Booked a table the day before and offhand mentioned it was for my Dads 60th, they went above and beyond and bought a beautiful cake out for us after the meal without prompting. My new favourite resturant and a huge thank you to all the staff there! Absolutely delicious and will be returning.

It's one of the best Indian restaurants in cardiff. We taste chicken biryani, porotta, and beef curry. Delicious....!. Location is convenient. Good ambience with Indian music. The interior needs more attention.

I read some reviews on this place and they were not lies, nor over exaggerated. This place really is different to other Indian restaurants that I’ve been to. I went there for a birthday meal with my family who fancied somewhere slightly different. On arrival we were greeted with a smiling face and asked where we might like to sit (inside or out) we chose to sit indoors. We were served drinks and placed orders for starters and mains. The menu really is different to other Indian restaurants as in there’s not 10 different types of madras or other curries. The menu is concise and is full of food that you won’t really get in other restaurants and is truly authentic. You really have to go and see for yourself the different foods on offer. We all ate really well and enjoyed every last mouthful. A really nice touch was the manager brought a cake over for us at the end to celebrate the birthday. They did this at their cost and thought for which I thought was a beautiful touch! Great place, amazing food, brilliant service. I will definitely be going again.. and so should you!

A year ago, I remember being served the best Vegetable Biriyani that Cardiff had to offer from Mattancherry. However, today I was utterly disappointed. I decided on the 3 stars, because the Channa Bhatura I received via Uber yesterday was delicious. But seriously, if I knew I was being served tasteless, flavourless rice with a couple of unboiled vegetables and a bay leaf as Vegetable Biriyani, I wouldn't have spent over £10 on your restaurant for dinner yesterday. I know this can happen occasionally, but I felt defeated yesterday. Time for a better game-plan, I suppose.

Much better than your standard curry house, with traditional Indian dishes that you don't find in mainstream restaurants. Some amazing flavours and textures in the dishes that we had, I would happily go here again and again!

We went here on Saturday night! It was super busy but great service, wonderful food and atmosphere. There was no rush for us to leave at the end of the meal and we were made to feel super welcome! 100% recommend! Thanks and when we are back in Cardiff we will be back!

Mattancherry Canton is the first restaurant I discovered that could capture the essence of traditional South Indian cooking in an atmosphere that resonates with the cultural environment of South India. In particular, the southern Indian state of Kerala. From the moment, I tasted the food and interacted with Mr. Ramakrishnan, it was almost as if I was transported across time and space into Kerala through the ambience of the music and delicious food flavours. As a great chef once said, good food is like music you can taste and colour you can smell while savouring the excellent culinary experience which Mattancherry Canton certainly delivers.

Had a lovely evening here with some friends. Staff were friendly and helpful, atmosphere was nice and food was lovely. I had the railway curry. Only criticism would be the prices felt a little high for what you got, especially the desserts which were very over-priced, and it was amusing and a bit distracting having the background music provided by the free version of spotify with adverts in it!

My partner and I discovered this place tonight, bit sad it's taken us so long! The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully spiced with lots of flavour. The thalis (which seem to be the speciality here) are very special and make a nice change from the usual "curry house" style that you tend to find in Cardiff. We also had a warm welcome from the staff who couldn't have been friendlier. Will definitely be back!

Ordered online for takeaway through their website. When we arrived they hadn’t even looked at the order and had to dig around to find it. Once they started it took about 30 min for them to finish it. Food was pretty good although the lentils and curry were quite bland and needed more salt and spice. Middle of the road Indian cuisine. I was surprised. Based on prior ratings I expected better.
