Been swimming here for the past year. Seems like they used to have good restrictions on the number of people in the pool at a time. But, no more. Today there was 11 people in one lane. Tried to let front desk know on the way out and they reassured me that the session wasn't fully booked. Yikes. Went home and filled up the bathtub instead so I'd have more space to bob up and down than at York sport village.

Signed up to the gym here beginning of the year after a year of only using their pool. It's a tad on the expensive side, so I'd say you need to come at least three times a week to make it worth it. The gym had decent equipment, not everything I'm looking for though; missing a balance bar, resistant bands and a barre. So doesn't seem that catered to flexibility training. The staff are super friendly. They always help with any fitness question, diet, will show you how to use the equipment safely, and are super patient. Definitely think the staff here are way above average compared to other gyms. Swimming pool is pretty standard. Therr aren't that many open swim sessions though. Always full of classes and other activities. And it's very annoying you have to book to swim. So you have to go on these fixed hour slots. Therefore, everyone is changing and showering at the same time. Been to a few fitness classes, and they are very good. Overall positive experience. Just a bit pricey.

One of the best places to go for a walk in the afternoon. The place is always quite during the summer when students have all left back home. Just imagine in the warm afternoon with cool breeze, you walk with you pets along the flower field and the children are running around. That is amazing!

Poor booking management and rude staff, called in a few days before i wanted to swim to ask about sessions and cost, they never told me I could have booked a slot, when I turned up it was fully booked all night. The lady on the desk was just rude

Nice but a bit pricey and the pool isn’t too clean — ended up with conjunctivitis from it more than once. Otherwise good upstairs gym though. Shame that it’s quite far away from everything so cycling there via the windy open bike path from the other campus isn’t very fun.

On day pass with my sister. I was quickly signed in and an wristband provided for lockers. we did over 50 class for beginners . This is a well run class with an excellent instructor. I did a short session in the gym, plenty of equipment to suit everyone young and old. Then on to 6 lengths of the pool and 2 sessions in the sauna . The pool is excellent not too cold and about 25 meters long. I thought I would have coffee and sandwiches to finish. If you want coffee and food they don't take cash only cards this was the only downside and no work round offered . I didn't want to leave my wallet in the lockers, but they seem secure enough as they only work off your wristband . Would I go back , Yes. If I hadn't gone with my sister I might have struggled to find where rooms were . On leaving, The staff at the front desk were very pleasant and asked how the session had gone.

Large gym and pool, always very clean when I go and there’s access to free classes if you’re a member which is a nice bonus. The café also sells a good range of cold drinks to costa and has a view over the pool which is useful. The temperature is always good for exercising.

I used the velodrome at this location. The staff were excellent friendly welcoming and made the whole experience very enjoyable. The velodrome is good for an outdoor venue, the profile is a little unusual for a 250 but it is well maintained the only thing I could ask for is maybe a couple of benches to sit on between sessions down there

We come here for swimming lessons. The instructors are fantastic and I highly recommend. The lifeguards are so switched on and don't miss a thing, they're clearly very on the ball with training and the reception/swim team staff couldn't be more helpful. Changing areas are clean and well maintained and the pool is lovely.

Great facilities and sports centre. Played a game on the full size 3G pitch which was fantastic. Dugouts and chairs for home and away teams. Pitch protected by rails for supporters. Car parking is free.

Great venue for sporting activity and gym. It is also the venue for Park Runs on a Saturday. It also has a cafe that serves Costa brand hot drinks (I’m not a huge fan of Costa drinks, so that loses it some points from me).

Great facilities. I use the pool and love the size and changing facilities. Always clean and the heated floor is a bonus.

Love this place, staff at the centre and cafe are all lovely, pool is warm and they give the kids toys, balls and floating nets to play with. Amazing, will definitely keep going back.

Equipment is often broken. The spa is often not working and it has been recurrent problem for years The equipment in the gym is often broken for weeks The latest is the fast track machine for tickets for classes has been unavailable for week This means one has to arrive upto 20 mins early for a 30 min class to collect tickets from reception - there is not enough staff to deal with the volume of customers particularly with the impact of the fast track ticket machine not working If you don’t arrive that early you can end up being late for the start of the class and be refused entry, no fault in the trainers it’s a health and safety issue . If you skip getting the ticket as reception is understaffed and the queue is not moving then you can be banned from online booking of tickets It’s just poorly Managed And finally records I would like a response

Great gym with plenty of cardio machines, a range of resistance machines and some free weights. It can get quite busy during term time as it’s popular with students, and can get especially busy on Monday evenings. On an average day, there is usually no wait on machines and only short waits on weight machines. There are only a few squat racks which may be a draw back for those mainly interested in weight lifting. The staff are really friendly and helpful, and changing facilities are great. Gym lockers use wristbands to lock so no worries about bringing a lock (except for non-members swimming.) The changing areas are always clean and tidy, with showers and access to swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi (which are great for recovery.) There a great range of classes available including yoga and more high intensity style workouts. The cafe offers costa coffee and has a range of sandwiches, usually with a vegan option or a vegan wrap, which are a really good quick option when you need to refuel!

Very well equipped center, lovely pool with kids pool as well .....does get busy but not unmanageable. Loads of parking, on a bus route and walkable from the city of it's a nice day (best go along the farm tracks not Hull road )

Really good customer service, address any queries and feedback promptly if needed. The staff are all really helpful and friendly. The facilities are all excellent, and as far as I'm aware, the price has remained pretty much the same over the last decade. Another gym I tried years ago is now close to fifty percent more expensive than York Sport Village.

Perfectly happy with the members Leisure facilities for the pool, sauna and jacuzzi but would prefer a swimming only membership

  • 3/5 Georgia C. 11 months ago on Google
gyms busy, with two squat racks, copious amounts of rusty (??!) technogym, and no deadlift platform. trecky to get to, and just not the best. friendly staff, but the gyms just crammed full of equipment but very limited free weights

Costa never seems to be open when you fancy a coffee, then the vending machines seldom work, at least not for a year now anyway and the staff can't even offer any change when they do. Absolute joke!!

It is good swimming at the centre. Though it could do with more lanes available for the public. I found myself overtaking all the time even in the fast lane.

The best sports facilities in York. Plenty of on site parking spaces and we'll maintained 3G football pitches. 1 full size, 3 5-a-side caged pitches. Indoor 50m pool. Kids pool. Outdoor velodrome. Outdoor spinning classes. Indoor gym.

So after booking swimming lessons for the mini me this has been my first experience as a father of sorting kids and seeing this experience through those eyes. I stood at an empty desk marked Swimming Lessons enquiries only. There was a young chap on another desk. As the time ticked closer towards the start of our first class not once did he glance over and suggest that he dealt with my enquiry. I waited for a bit longer and then took it upon to goto him and he dealt with me, after 'realising' I was waiting 🙄 Anyway found the lessons staff fab and helpful. I went for a coffee only after spilling half of it on the world's most wobbliest tables, however good coffee, reasonable price, polite and pleasant staff. Once the child took off the swimwear I went to locate the swimwear spinner thing. None could be located as there isn't any. Suggestion get some installed for a better user experience. All in all, as weeks have moved on and Covid restrictions lifted , not much has changed tables are still wobbly and wet swimwear is taken home. Staff are mainly young but pleasant enough. Great facility, great lessons, great coffee shop (star removed for both points) great viewing area. Advice, get on the waiting list early so your young duckling learns the life survival skill

A really good setup here. Probably the best pool in the city (barring outdoor at DL), gym is well setup, can get busy but there are quieter times

Love buying from the entrance the blue shorts that I purchased for the person he commented that though's shorts fitted perfectly and may require me too purchase more in this size so will be looking too get the male customer a pair of shorts in a Large in black. Shame that cannot be said for me the boys shorts would like for a 14 or 15 year old as the 12 year old shorts too tight. The ladies swimming costume may want that colour in a size 14 than 12. So used your Toilet facilities upstairs instead as tried too use the toilet facilities downstairs but was along wait and there was only 1 toilet not great. Still like the swimming pool it is quite shallow in what I believed to be the deep end. I did not try the gym out and was not that happy too discover the Coffee shop Costa was not open for business on that day and would need too check in on York sport website page for reopening date also discovered no Coffee vending machine that no longer exists. But all that said I would still be interested in using York Sport Village that is so close to the property I live in.

I always go to bodypump here, great facilities and always clean. Only downside is that showers are needed for non-members. There is one in the disabled loo but always feel guilty for using this space when it's needed by others!

Just arrived to go for a 'open swim' To be told that they are at full capacity, and then wait would be 15-20 mins. The maximum number of people to swim is apprantley 25 people. And they had over 3 lifeguards.... While we waited we counted less than 25 in that pool! We waited 35 minutes! And saw NUMOUROUS people who had just joined the pool! Extremely disappointed! Especially having to let our 3 year old little boy down! Been here before and never experienced anything like it before with 25 people being the capacity...? Wouldn't mind, but rang up to ask about swimming before we set off, as we are not so local. So feel like they could have 'pre warned' us. Been here before and there have always been loads more than 25 in that pool at one time!

We brought our baby here during an open swim session, but were told that the learner pool is shut during term time on weekdays to allow swimming lessons to take place - despite the fact there wasn't a swimming lesson in sight and the learner pool was completely unoccupied. Instead we were forced to resort to using the main pool which, really, was too cold for young children. We were then peer pressured into leaving the main pool prematurely by another patron because they were uncomfortable around babies. We paid £9.90 for the privilege of spending ten minutes feeling marginalised, awkward and unwelcome. Not a recommendable establishment for families.

York Sport Village is a very large modern building at the side of York University grounds with lots of parking which is very well lit at night. On reception the staff are well organised and helpful. There is a very pleasant reasonably priced cafe to the side which looks on to the massive swimming pool. The changing rooms are clean with lots of lockers. When I went in the late afternoon there were lots of swimming lessons in the smaller pool for little ones and 1/2 the big pool is for lane swimming and the other half for public swimming which is available for use from early til late. My only gripe is that the big pool is always cold, probably because of the size of it. But all in all very good for £5.10 for adult swimming and cheaper if you are a York resident with a York card. This complex houses a large gym among other things.

Used the pool, cycle track and went through the village. The pool was clean with lots of lanes for swimming lengths. The cycle track was brilliant, not busy and loved having space and clear tarmac to practice with my road bike. The track has a deceptively sharp turn at the far end, so watch your speed!! The village is nice to walk through with a coffee shop.
