Visited York Explore Library and Archive today as part of Aesthetica Film Festival 2022. It was a lovely place with lifts inside and most of does not have stairs (if there are stairs there is a lift) or major ramps for accessibility. The first floor was beautiful! I will certainly return on my next trip to York.

A lovely library which me and my wife love coming to. The staff are helpful, the facilities are great and there are a wide range of books available for borrowing whcih is heaven for bookworms. The food served in the cafe are delicious and resonably priced. But recently, there has been a girl wearing a green jacket and pyjamas who kept staring at us when we were on the ground floor whilst eating cornflakes one by one from the packet which made us uncomfortable.

My favourite library. It's open seven days a week (impressive as I grew up around libraries that were only open three or four!), has a wide and eclectic selection, is in a beautiful and spacious 19th century building with a simply gorgeous archive upstairs, and it even has a café! York is blessed to have it.

A great area with a wide selection of children's books. Close to the cafe too for when they need a snack. Just needs a little more room to sit and eat with them without blocking some of the book storage areas

The best library ever! Great selection of books, and you can have books from other libraries in the system delivered to your local branch (for a small reservation fee of 25p). Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff, who always make you feel welcome.

A good place to start your visit to York where there is a cosy cafe corner to relax and plan your trip. Lots of interesting books to read and helpful staff to advise and ask about York. I've attended this much loved building for years & it's provided me and friends with help support and the staff have always be kind and helpful. It's the real community of York for residents and people who come to York..See for yourself join us..

Lots of books. The archive is fascinating. People can use computers. There's a cafe inside, children are welcome.

Great quiet study room upstairs with dozens of books on York's history, some of which contain maps that are telling of the eras in which they were produced (or reproduced), including some before York expanded outside the walls, and labelling mentioning Roman walls within the mounds holding the current ones. There's an archive available most days upstairs also, unfortunately in use whilst we were there. Bathrooms seemed a little unkempt — out of toilet roll, pretty wet all over the floor.

Such a lovely library! The cafe space is so sunny and welcoming with excellent hot drinks and friendly staff who always make my day. Reading room upstairs is a great quiet work space. Always some new books to check out as well! So grateful for my local library:)

A great archive that is really looking to get involvement from the community in all kinds of ways without alienating the traditional local and family historians. Love it and will love it more in the future I am sure.

Lovely building, sweet staff and a massive range of books for all ages and genres.

Good library with a decent variety of books and a nice layout. The LGBT section is lacking, however; a few gay books and trans books but absolutely no books on lesbian history or culture. There is no feminism section either, which is a real shame for a city with a rich history of both.

A very nice building with friendly staff who go the extra mile to help customers who are visiting. The only issue I had was that there was a girl in pyjamas carrying a Sainsbury’s bag who kept following me and my husband around which made us uncomfortable. I think she might be engaging in prostituion

Useful for important meetings. Cafe is far too expensive with a lousy selection of drinks and snacks. I would always buy refreshments elsewhere before entering here.
