I came to Republic as a blue belt, and having experienced a number of other clubs on the way, it was immediately clear that this place was something special. The teaching is structured with a clear direction. The club attracts and retains an unprecedented number of women. Techniques are explained brilliantly, and as an athlete you feel supported as part of the most wonderful community. I have flourished here under the instruction of Lee, Joe, and Barbara who practice what they teach - simply brilliant jiujitsu.

High quality consensual choking. Detailed instruction. Friendly people. Good price. Would recommend having your guard passed/being swept by Lee. Update: This is a great club, and it's grown massively. There's people of all shapes and sizes, and skill levels, to roll with. There's a strong focus on technical excellence over physical attributes, while still encouraging the use of attributes in the right setting. The instruction is quite holistic, and I've found many of the holes in my game have been patched just by turning up and working to implement the move of the day, which often falls into a series, with weeks of instruction that all ties together, often focused around a position or guard. Update 2: Google maps wants me to update my review. It's still awesome. You should train here.

Joined about 6 weeks ago after putting it off for a while, and have loved every second. Lee’s a top instructor and human, and has created an atmosphere and schedule in which seemingly all levels, styles, shapes and sizes can thrive and more enjoy themselves.

Trained with Lee many years ago and it was a pleasure to drop in on this fantastic community bjj facility and find him teaching. High level instruction and friendly environment in which to learn and progress. Thanks

I’ve traveled to many BJJ schools, and this was among the best experiences. Lee and the community are welcoming and supportive, and the training is world class. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Recently started my journey with Lee and the gang and couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. Lee breaks down techniques that gives even the complete novice like myself the confidence to keep coming back! Couldn’t rate highly enough!

Great gym experience. I was on travel for work and was able to catch a fundamentals class, Lee is a really good instructor that goes through all the minor details. The atmosphere and culture felt just like my home gym. Highly recommend for anyone in the area looking to try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Really friendly gym. I was only there for a month whilst I was back home from university but it was really easy to get straight into it. Everyone was welcoming and eager to learn or help you improve. Great teaching from Lee and a great culture amongst the students.

While in Oxford visiting family, I reached out to see about attending a daytime class and I'm glad that did. It is easy to see that Lee Renault has been doing this for a while. His instruction is easy to understand and his attention to detail is superb. I highly recommend trying out a class. I know I will be back in the future whenever I am in Oxford.

Great and friendly environment. The teacher is excellent and spends time with each student to improve techniques and correct mistakes. This is the best martial arts class I have ever been. Highly recommended!

A lovely club with a relaxed atmosphere! Would definitely recommend for beginners, I went there after a poor first experience at another club and never looked back! Lots of focus on technique, so very open to all people regardless of size or athleticism. Also, really great value for money!

Classes were great. Instructions were in depth, drilling the moves help solidify the instructions while the professor Lee walked around giving further instruction as needed. Great group of people who are supportive and enjoy the sport and are looking to make themselves better every class. Highly recommend if you’re in the area to drop in or sign up for classes. Oss!

Amazing club. The beginners classes have a great pacing so that people from all skill levels can stretch/warm up, watch, learn and spar as comfortable. There's people of all levels of fitness and know-how and all have a good time. The humility and friendliness of everyone involved really stood out. I've started going to fundamentals classes and they are also very welcoming to white belts. Getting after it.

Brilliant place to train. Lee, Joe and Barbara are awesome coaches, and the high level belts are always happy to help you work things out and build up. Sparring is brilliant, with a good mix of people to roll with, and the friendly atmosphere means you can come down and feel welcomed from day one. No GI day offers good wrestling style techniques into the training which I have not seen at any other clubs I've tried. Great value for money, would recommend to anyone interested in martial arts.

As someone totally new to Marshall arts, I was pretty nervous before my first class. Turned out to be totally unnecessary, these are the friendliest guys you could hope for, very welcoming and patient. I would recommend Jiu Jitsu Republic to anyone in the Oxford area looking to train BJJ

Amazing classes with detailed instruction given at the same time as demonstration. A great group of like minded people all working together to improve at the sport they love. Highly recommend for anyone looking to train in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Excellent! The quality of teaching is top: you learn from highly accomplished people eager to share with you their deep love for the sport. The environment is super friendly, everybody is welcome and the coaches are very accessible to help guide you through the initial stages. Lee is a unique coach: despite his amazing achievements, he doesn't take an authoritative, distant role in his relationship with his students. He takes everyone very seriously, whether they are interested in BJJ as a hobby or aspire to become a competitor themselves. He is always willing to clarify details and succeeds in tuning his explanations to the student's level. The group is tight-knit and this comes with a sense of belonging. Prior to joining, I was unsure if I eventually wanted to compete or not. The atmosphere and the people in the club changed my mind. Encouraged by my peers and coaches, I thought I'd give it a shot and absolutely loved the experience. I had been thinking about starting jiu-jitsu for a while when I first joined. I left the first session wishing I had done it sooner. Don't wait, if you are thinking about starting BJJ and are based near the Oxford area, just show up.

Coach Lee’s attention to detail was superb. The individual focus I got despite the class being quite busy was amazing. It was my first time back in a gym for three years attending an intermediate class (and even three years back I was still an amateur) and he still made me feel welcome and not out of place.
