Great experience! Really enjoyed this outing. We did the Macaw Free Flight and Falcon Experience. The view from the top of the hill where the birds fly, looking out over the valley is really nice. Seeing the birds fly free is just beautiful. A few (wild) hawks showed up too! Really enjoyed the tour. The guides are knowledgeable and really seem to want their guests to have a good time and enjoy learning about their birds. The whole experience comes with a friendly, low key vibe - very enjoyable. After seeing the birds in flight, we each got to hold a macaw and a falcon, and then walked back down the hill and had the opportunity to meet and interact with a few of the other birds on the premises. They have burros, goats and an alligator too! All the birds and other animals look great and seem very happy. Lunch at the Lake Wohlford Cafe on the way home is worth a stop too.

Magnificent experience! I would recommend this to anyone even remotely interested in birds. Katie and Hillary are such knowledgeable teachers and know how to handle these awesome animals. I learned so much seeing these birds in action. Also being a perch these birds was something of a bucket list item for me. I’m grateful beyond words! I did the birds of prey experience, but it seems like any experience would be worth it! If you’re considering visiting this place, just do it!

I cannot say enough incredible things about this gem! I was visiting the area from out of town and wanted to book an owl experience for myself. I saw that there was no availability for the only day I could make it out, so I called to inquire if they could accommodate me. Without any hesitation, they allowed me to come and have the most incredible experience. This was a bucket list experience for sure! All the women were knowledgeable and personable during my time there. The love they have for every animal is evident. All the animals are well cared for and lovely. I’m an educator, and they gave me the option to have a virtual experience for my class in the future, if available and allowed by my school. I appreciated that very much. Beatrix was my favorite to meet by far. This is a one of a kind place that every animal enthusiast needs to visit. I will highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique adventure 💚🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉

A truly amazing experience. Nothing really prepares you for the experience of a Hawk landing on your hand. The trainers are so knowledgeable and funny and were a really important part of the experience.

I attended the animal training workshop at ABI this year! The workshop itself was excellent, the perfect blend of insightful learning, hands-on training opportunities, demos and amazing birds. Hillary, Paige, Katie and the rest of the staff at ABI are wonderful trainers and teachers. They were funny, insightful, helpful and kind throughout the entire experience. If you work with animals, birds or have the desire to. I cannot recommend ABI enough! Hillary and her team are top-notch and their birds seem to experience excellent welfare in their care!

We were able to attend the Owl Prowl & Macaw Free Flight experience. It was an amazing opportunity to get up close to a variety of owls, learning about the owls, and to experience them flying to and landing on our gloves hand. The Macaw flight was also a great experience with a fun story of drama between the macaws and also the opportunity to hold and feed one of them. The staff was very kind, answering our unending questions about the birds and also just making the experience fun and worthwhile. They went out of their way to ensure things went well and everyone was happy. Thanks!

I went for a Raptor workshop with Hillary and her team and had a phenomenal experience. I learned so much and had once in a lifetime experiences there including watching some incredible bird flights. Hillary is pushing the world of bird training further and any experience is a great opportunity to learn about bird conservation.

We booked an owl experience for three people. We had the most amazing time! We started off visiting the goats, donkeys, and other animals, while they got set up for us to hang out with the owls. They told us all about the three different types of owls we would meet. We each put on a glove, and they explained how to provide a strong perch before they brought out one owl at a time. Each owl that they brought out had a distinct personality. They were so different from each other. We learned so much about their preferences, habits, food needs, etc. Holding each of the three owls was amazing! I wanted to sit and talk to it for much longer. But we each got a significant turn. After meeting the owls, they took us on a tour of the rest of their birds. They had so many different species - several of which I had never heard of! The birds are all very well looked after. I was impressed at every turn.

This was an incredible experience! My husband and I took part in the Art of Flight Experience and it was an absolute highlight of our Easter weeekend. It was such a memorable and special experience to be able to interact with these gorgeous animals. The trainers kept us well informed throughout the session and made us feel comfortable and the whole session was very well organised. We had so much fun and I would definitely recommend it for anyone visiting the area as well as San Diego locals like us looking for fun things to do over the long weekend! Agnieszka & Ranney

Our experience at Avian Behavior International FAR exceeded our expectations! A lovely setting, amazing interactions with their ambassador birds, but most of all we enjoyed the insight and passion of our hosts - Hillary and Paige. They were smart and fun and we learned so much! Our visit was the highlight of our trip to the San Diego area.

avian behavior international offers an up close and personal experience you will not find anywhere else. each experience includes a full tour of their incredible aviary. they have a responsible, knowledgeable, and experienced team of behavior scientists and animal trainers working hard to provide for a variety of species. the property is beautiful and sustainable, and well worth the drive. dreams come true here, as i have never seen animals not only this comfortable, but actively trusting of their caregivers. these birds know what their job is and have been strongly reinforced to choose to participate. the staff are warm, friendly, and welcoming, which lends a necessary confidence when handling these birds. they take amazing photos while you focus on the experience, and this is an accommodating and safe facility for any person. if you love birds and find yourself in san diego county, it is a must do!!! thank you abi staff for all your hard work, i will definitely be back <3

As a large moderate/severe special education group, we were utterly amazed at the patience and grace provided to our group on our outing. The staff were very helpful and able to adapt their program on the fly (no pun intended) to facilitate and meet our unique needs. The tour was entertaining and educational. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it seemed that each student and adult were able to have a uniquely amazing experience at their ability levels. We will be returning and would recommend this program to anyone who is considering it at any age group or ability level. Well worth the priceless experience. In awe of the amazing facility and people.

An absolutely wonderful experience. I brought my 17 year old son for a gift and he was thrilled to get to interact with 5 incredible owls. Hillary and Nicki are so knowledgeable and their passion is palpable. It was also really fun to see their many other exotic birds. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

We had the most amazing time meeting and handling 5 different owls. The staff was super knowledgeable and friendly and they made sure we got some great pictures with the birds.

The team and the birds are wonderful! I booked a owl prowl and falcon flight tour and get a chance to interact with two owls and one falcon. The staffs are knowledgeable and super nice, and we learn a lot about the birds' habits. Highly recommend!

Fantastic, unique, and educational experience. Everyone was incredibly kind and excited to share their knowledge and stories about their unique animals. I participated in the owl handling encounter, and was able to hold three different owls, and meet two, brand new, baby burrowing owls as a surprise bonus. Great place to take kids, a date, or enjoy solo!
