Favorite place I visited in D.C.. Words cannot begin to describe how gorgeous this building is inside and out. Every single detail so carefully thought out from the architecture to the art. Definitely go visit if you can, there’s so much to see. Also try and get a library card if you can it’s totally free and a fun souvenir to keep. It’s a legit library card and you can use it to enter the main reading room but you usually need to make an appointment weeks in advance to get in room but the card is a nice memory to keep.

What a wonderful library this is, I have visited many libraries, but I have never seen one like this. How beautiful everything is there, I always looked up, it was impossible to take my eyes off the beautiful sculptures, paintings and drawings, and of course, as without books. It is a pleasure to visit here, it is to gain positivity and good thoughts. It is very cozy, light and clean. There are many tourists, and it makes me happy that people want to come here, this is history, and history is very interesting and informative. I would like to note that the staff is very kind and friendly, always happy to help.

My first time and I loved it. There's so much to see we couldn't do it all in one trip. We attended a Thursday evening event; I highly recommend. They are free but you have to get tickets in advance.

Wow! This was super amazing! Such a cool building and history. They also have tours where you can go into the actual library and walk around. Had a great experience here and the workers were so nice and willing to answer our questions and teach us!

The congress library was amazing. You should get your free tickets online before going. If you like to check the research room you can register for free online and get your card there. There are orange arrows guiding you to the registration room. The card will be valid for 2 years. The building was absolutely beautiful totally worth it.

This is such a beautiful building! The architecture is very ornate and awe-inspiring. From the fountain out front to the marbling inside, this building is amazing! It's free to visit and the museum is very informative. They have numerous artifacts from our nation's history and beyond. You will not be disappointed when you visit. Unfortunately, in order to enter the actual library you need to make an appointment. I completely understand that as it allows the library to be an actual library and not become a tourist trap. Please visit this beautiful place.

Beautiful. Photos will never do it justice, you need to see it in person! It’s literally breathtaking. It’s amazing to just stand in the middle of it and look up in awe. I went on a school trip from DC and it was a great learning experience. But really I’ve never seen such beautiful architecture and design.

One of the most beautiful buildings I have ever visited. I should have planned to be here longer. I only got to see a small portion of what was there. Plan on getting a library card. Also make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Don’t miss the reading room, the Gutenberg Bible and the books from Thomas Jefferson’s personal library.

The free tour of the world's largest library is well worth taking. You can see a Gutenberg Bible, the first map to name America, the extraordinary main reading room and much more. A beautiful building and a wonderful set of exhibits.

The Library of Congress was quite neat. The building itself was impressive as was the history. A surprise for us was a small museum with a number of very interesting exhibits including Women's Voting and the history of Baseball which we really enjoyed. It is a multimedia display that highlights some of the most memorable events from baseball's history. You dont need to spend a ton of time here, but it is enjoyable.

So cool, this building houses so much knowledge. Amazing architecture. You can get a library card if you are over 18, (they do expire every 2 years) this will allow you to check out books to read. I personally spent 3 hours reading everything from Buddhism to effects of illegal immigration to modern jewelry. They have the largest collection of books in the world so there is at least something that will interest you.

Library of Congress, a national symbol of knowledge is the largest and oldest library of United States established in 1800. This is the research library for Congress and open for public for research only and the books or materials can not be checked out. The library is housed in three buildings on Capitol Hill. The research material is from all over the world in more than 450 languages. The library has more than 160 million items and everyday 10,000 new items are being added. We booked the timed tickets online to visit the library. I couldn’t get the timed tickets 5 days before but some limited tickets are released everyday morning at 9.00 am. Exactly at 9.00 AM I tried and I got the desired time slot. There is no entry fee. As a book lover, it was my dream to visit this unbelievable and incredible heritage library. Anyone can have access to the library if you have Reader Identification Card. The building architecture and the sculptures inside and outside are absolutely stunning. It is very theatrical, heavily ornamented and the decorative paintings and beautiful sculptures place this building among greatest art and architecture in America. The exhibition of photography and about Rosa Parks was very impressive. The mosaics, the frescos and the stained glass work is amazing. Thomas Jefferson’s personal library and the main reading room is great attraction. Unfortunately, we could see the main reading room from high above with limited sight through the thick glass. I wanted to see those millions of books on the shelves as I dreamed off, but what I saw was mostly exhibitions in a museum kind of setting. However, this is a must see attraction.

Surprisingly, a very cool place. I didn't have any expectations, just wanted to kill some time and was in the area. It's quite easy to book the free ticket online. The interior is beautiful and the exhibitions are very interesting. The only downside is that the visitors are not allowed in the main reading room (at least at the time I was visiting), which is amazing as judging from the balcony's view. Definitely am coming back more prepared and maybe even will take a tour.

This is the most beautiful interior to a library anywhere in the world. It’s wonderful to see that such an important place is so breathtaking with its colors and patterns, combined with an amazing collection of books. The tour is worth the start if your time is limited. This should be a mandatory stop on your national mall tour and the best thing is that it can be combined with US Capitol visit as there’s a tunnel that leads directly to the library.

The Library of Congress (LC) is the research library that officially serves the United States Congress and is the de facto national library of the United States. It is the oldest federal cultural institution in the United States. The Library of Congress is one of the largest libraries in the world. Its "collections are universal, not limited by subject, format, or national boundary, and include research materials from all parts of the world and in more than 450 languages."

Tour Reservation is needed!! Free admission!! If you want to use the library to study, you need to get a researcher card for entrance to the study room. Even the study rooms need reservations. Exhibitions are amazing usually and building is so amazing. Gotta check out the ceilings and walls. Store is open for purchasing gifts and souvenirs. Parking is not easy so using Metro is the best way to navigate around.

Gorgeous! The national library of the United States and the largest library in the world! Its collections include more than 30 million catalogued books and other print materials in 470 languages. It holds the largest rare book collection in North America, including the rough draft of the Declaration of Independence and one of the Gutenberg Bibles!!!

Absolutely stunning architecture and art! From my perspective, I was expecting something different.. but it was pretty cool. The library is only opened during week days, check the website always first, so you can see the schedule. Well worth the visit.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. There are time entry tickets, so make sure you get them in advance. The main reading room of the library was amazing and there were also other exhibits that were interesting as well. There is also a convenient place in the library to check in your bags, as they don't allow them when you are touring the main room. You most likely won't spend as much time here as other museums, so it's great if you have a smaller gap and are looking for something to do.

A beautiful stop - we fully enjoyed our visit to the Library of Congress. The building itself is beautiful and we loved getting a glimpse into the reading room from the observation deck (which anyone can access if you take the time to sign up for a library card). The exhibit they had on currently, featuring photographs from the library's archives, was fabulous. We visited in the late afternoon (about an hour before closing) and the library was empty - not busy at all. Allowed us to spend as much time as we wanted viewing the main reading room/walking around/etc. Definitely recommend stopping by!

My favourite building in DC. The actual library is fantastic. Very old school. The architecture is excellent as are the views of the Capitol. Always an interesting exhibit going on. My kids love the children's rooms. Today my love for this building went even higher when the librarian showed my son and I the secret spiral staircase to the men's bathroom. So cool!

The Library of Congress is an intellectual haven that celebrates the pursuit of knowledge and the power of words. Its grandeur and vast collections are breathtaking, from historic manuscripts to modern literature. Walking through the reading rooms, I felt a sense of reverence for the scholars who've immersed themselves in its riches. The Jefferson Building's architecture is a work of art in itself, reflecting the significance of the written word. The exhibitions are thought-provoking, shedding light on diverse topics. The Library's commitment to preserving the world's cultural heritage is inspiring. A visit is an invitation to explore history, ideas, and imagination, leaving a lasting impression on any avid learner.

A fantastic collection of content. The library has the largest collection in the world with 170 million artifacts. The architecture of the library is exquisite with very unique large spaces in the gray Hall and the reading room. Time permitting, take advantage of the guided tours. Currently there is a timely special exhibit on women suffrage and the related struggle that won women the right to vote a hundred years ago.

The awe of viewing this building from the outside alone kicks in the sense of wonder for what it contains. The architecture and artistry both inside and out is amazing, and I could have spent days admiring it. Even though security is tight, as with many locations in the capitol, the personnel were polite, professional, and provided both respect for your time as well as ensuring the safety of those inside.

Fantastic resources! I was privileged to view here the 31 May 1790 letter from Thomas Paine to George Washington announcing that Paine had forwarded on to Washington the main key to the Bastille that Lafayette had entrusted to Paine to send on to Washington. More details about extremely helpful information provided by the Library of Congress in the book "George Washington's Liberty Key."

You'll need to have a library card to access the main reading room to work out of but it's well worth it to work in the oldest library in the country. I think you need to be a DC resident to get your library card or at least a local, and yes, they require you to bring proof of residency. After 5 pm, you can still access the library until 9:30 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with a library card at their back entrance on Second Street SE (Thomas Jefferson building)

The library of Congress is located in Washington DC, USA. with over 167 million items in its collection. The library of Congress is the largest library in the world. the collection includes over 39 million books and other printed materials, 3.6 million recordings, 14.8 million photographs, 5.5 million maps, 8.1 million pieces of sheet music, and 72 million manuscripts. The library was established in 1800 A.D. and contains materials is over 450 languages. some of those materials include one of the smallest books in the world (you have to turn the pages with a needle) stradivarious violins, and digitally archived tweets, the library grew and expanded after the American civil war, and started accumulating literature and important applications from all across the world. Thank you.

The building itself was a work of art! I ceilings through out the building were gorgeous. I truly loved the reproduction of Thomas Jefferson's library. I, also, liked the way they denoted the individual volumes as to weather it was an original (ie the one on display was the one in his library), another copy of the original book, or a mock up until one can be found. The Guttenberg Bible display was very well done.

One of the most important libraries in the world. It is just behind the US Capitol. It is a very beautiful building both inside and outside. It is very clean, safe and free to go in. First, you need a reservation. Second, be dressed for the weather as you may need to wait in a line outside for a while. We were outside for 30 minutes. It’s a bit of a wind tunnel! Third, well worth it, but heads up! Beautiful beyond expectations! So much to see. If you want to go into the library or book a tour plan ahead. And you can get a real library card!

Helpful staff, beautiful buildings and endless collections exhibited in assigned rooms. Just amazingly impressive. Coat check for most bags and jackets at each building, as well as airport style security measures. They only allow a wallet sized purse in the reading rooms if you have requested books to review or are doing research. Read the reading room rules before doing research here.

The architecture alone is enough to fall in love with. The art and detail are impeccable and breathtaking. It really is overwhelming and a lot to take in, in a good way... like if you were holding the last piece of chocolate on Earth and you want to savor it and take a long time eating it, because you know you'll never have it again. Jefferson's library is impressive and I would have been happy to stay in the main hall forever. I didn't want to leave.

I think this is my favorite place in all of DC! The architecture is simply stunning, probably the most beautiful in the city. All over the place are little quotes about knowledge and reading, and the hallways are long and colorful, and cool statues are ubiquitous. It's free, and there are no additional tickets to buy for anything. It is not the most popular place for tourists, because not many people know about how spectacular it is, so it is totally not crowded. Even if you don't get a library card pass into the reading room, you can see it from a window up above, and there is a pleasant little reading room for kids that I would have loved to spend a few hours in. There are also a few exhibits, including Thomas Jefferson's personal library, a temporary showcase of the Gutenberg Bible, and some smaller ones down a sort of secret hallway that nobody knows about so they are totally empty. (These include a Gershwin exhibit, something about cartoons, and a Bob Hope room.) If you are in town, definitely pay it a visit. I would probably come to read in the kids' reading room every day if I lived in DC, but even if you are not a reading person, you will enjoy the magnificent building!

The is an incredible library. We took a tour and got to see and hear the history. The gothic design and american style fits well here. The only negative here was our tour lady. My son (young) sneezed in her vicinity. The visual and verbal reaction from her was over the top! We might as well have injected her with AIDS or something. My son wasn't even sick or showed any sickness. No runny nose or anything. He sneezed ... ONCE ... THAT time ... through the whole tour. My son felt so bad and embarrassed and we got the feeling she cancelled the tour early because of it.

October 2021 • Timed tickets are required but are FREE using the website on the Google Maps listing...I would recommend reserving a time slot at least a week in advance, as they tend to fill up. Whole library is self-guided, though they have staff members that can answer questions. This library is the largest in the world and is absolutely gorgeous! They have a handful of exhibits and usually a rotating exhibit as well. We spent about an hour walking through, though I'm sure you could spend double that if you spent time reading and examining all of the exhibits/artifacts inside. Definitely worth checking out!

This is a must visit while in DC. The architecture and history was worth every minute. Take time to ask a Docent about specifics of the area you are in. Jim (docent) was so knowledgeable and spent ten minutes explaining the sculpture and paintings. The photographic exhibit was a bonus and Tomas Jefferson’s library exhibit was as well.

What an amazing Greek architecture! This place is a jungle of Corinthian columns, a sea of books and a sky of murals. It’s absolutely stunning. Be sure to checkout Jefferson’s own donation of myriad books along with an exhibition of Rosa Park’s works. Also, entry is by appointment only. There’s a book shop that hosts souvenirs ranging from books to crockeries.

Beautiful historic building with gorgeous architecture. There are two and a half floors of museum-exhibits of some of the maps and records that the library keeps. Absolutely worth it for the free price and close proximity to South Capitol metro station

Wow .. I am so proud that I have been to this place. I have never seen anything that is awesomely built and well designed architecture like Liberty of congress. Interior and exterior both are marvelous and detailed print. Statues, greenery, assembly, seating, high roof, wall painting, tunnel walk so much to watch and enjoy. If you like architects and architecture it’s right place for you to take deep study. It took almost 7 hours for me to read and view the entire building. Except parking I don’t see any complaints. I would say without DC visit definitely USA tour won’t be great, such an amazing and interesting place it is.

One of the most beautiful buildings I have ever entered. The Italian Renaissance influence is evident. The entry level is understated and as you ascend the stairs you are met with incredible mosaic ceilings, followed by sculpture of marble & bronze, elegantly frescoed ceiling panels & vaults. I can not say enough about the elegance of the architecture & interior. The reading room can only be accessed if you have applied for entrance as a researcher. You can overlook the reading room, with its elegant dome. Inspirational quotes from all disciplines of learning are highlighted throughout, along with names of great contributors of all periods of history. There were temporary exhibits of photography, maps and Jefferson’s personal library. Entrance is free, but you must book an entrance time on line.

Loved our visit. The architecture is breathtaking and the history of this place is captivating. The staff are also very nice and willing to share their knowledge with all visitors. We learned a lot during our visit and can't wait to come back.

This library is truely a work of art. It felt like we were backing back in history. Beautiful views of the library from the thrust floor. In the front of the building there are nice statuses and plants. Parking is limited we were able to find street parking.

Absolutely worth the ticket. The Library of Congress is gorgeous! Although you need the ticket, it’s honestly not a hassle to get at all. They have a lot of things to see and while you’re at it, don’t forget your library card!

This was very cool to see mostly because of familiar scenes in movies and television. If you are a library geek, as my wife is, you can apply for a Reading Card (library card) and actually use the library. Or have it as a geeky souvenir. The library is behind the capitol and next to the Supreme Court so it’s a quick visit. Thomas Jefferson’s library is there and it’s amazing to see.

Don't think "Library", think history temple. What a beautiful place, this was my favorite indoor location on our DC trip. They have an original Gutenberg Bible and Thomas Jefferson's original book collection that help start the Library of Congress. What other location has such a great selling statement. If that is not enough, if you love architecture, this is the place for you, this Venetian Gothic (from the inside).

The library is a great place to tour when you are in town. They had some awesome tours and some neat artifacts there that you won’t want to miss. Make sure not to bring food here, because they won’t let you inside with it.

(Translated by Google) I think it's the National Diet Library in Japan. It was a magnificent building and the inside was good. I was very happy that the baseball exhibition was being held and Ichiro was introduced. The Parliamentary Library and the Federal Capitol are connected by an underground passage, so if you are booking a tour of the Capitol, you may want to go by the underground passage. Since there are few people, you can enjoy a little-known feeling. Also, when you squeak the sound of your shoes, it resonates, so you can feel like you're a member of the Diet.

I visited this building just pre-pandemic and I absolutely loved it. It is gorgeous and as soon as you enter you will be reminded of the entrance of Palais Garnier (Opera House in Paris) to which it is inspired. There is supposed to be a tunnel linking the Library to the US Capitol but it was closed when I visited.

If you are visiting Capitol Hill, you need to go to the Library of Congress!!! One of the top 10 libraries in the world, when else are you going to get the chance to see a fully entact Guttenberg Bible. The architecture is stunning and the gift store is filled with cool stuff.

One of the great historical place to visit in DC. It is free attraction but need a to book admission time in advance. Many time you can find availability in next hour or so as well. We entered through the tunnel after our capitol visit. If you want to explore throughly you need a good amount of time as it is a massive. On wall there are hundreds of wisdom quotes and multiple levels to explore with gallery. If you can start your day early and manage time you can do capitol, library and attend suprem court lecture on a same day. Street paid Parking is 5 to 7 min walk on 101 Constitution Ave NW street after building.

We went for the first time for the "Live! At the library" event they have every Thursday evening. It's free to ever but you do need to go online to reserve your spot for entry to any of the events. It was a great adult only type event, so it was very relaxing. It's beautiful inside and I highly recommend going if you like literature and architecture.
