Much needed Szechuan food in Ellicott city. Owner is very nice and the food is delicious. They have expanded on their dishes since opening day, but the classics are still the best. I tried some different stuff on the menu but these still need refinement. I highly recommend getting the dandan and beef soup. Both were regular spicy and I can say for sure I'll get super spicy next time. The mala spices were nice and aromatic but I was looking for the punch to the colon. If you want some real heat, get extra extra spicy. Beef soup - broth was not intense with beef but still delicious. Noodles were fresh and soup was piping hot. Not having a super spicy soup was actually nice because it complimented the beef broth. Bok choy was nice and beef cubes were cooked tender. Dandan noodles - honestly this is where I am super surprised. Dandan noodles are usually are trap and generally dry. Not here. Super flavorful and moist. Noodles cooked perfectly and the addition to cucumber was a game changer. The mala spices were complimented by the refreshing cucumber. Then you get a nice spicy beefy aftertaste. Good layering of simple ingredients at exceptional speed proved to be delicious.

Such a friendly lady there. She helped us choose three dishes to share. For non spicy option the wontons in chicken broth were exceptional. I had regular spicy beef noodle soup. It wasn’t painful spicy at regular level. Quite flavorful and comforting on a cold day.

It's not often that I try a new restaurant when visiting Ellicott City but after seeing the great reviews I had to give this place a try! I had a lovely experience. The lady at the front is super kind and efficient and though I had a lot of requests (ex: no veggies on dishes for my picky little brother) they were all flawlessly executed. I had the very spicy beef rice noodle soup and my brother had the same but no spice and no veggies. He devoured his dish and both of our eggs and complimented the soup. We went to 3 different new food establishments today and this was the only place he gave 5 stars to. My beef noodle soup was good! As other reviews have stated I think it could do with a bit more veggie and beef. The beef is tender and there is a lot of tendon. The bok choy is nice and fresh. The chili oil definitely adds a bit of heat (the kind where you're scared to sneeze) and my lips were a bit numb afterwards. The rice noodles were perfectly cooked and the broth was good (not my favorite I've tried but good!). We also got the Chengdu wontons in chicken broth. If I wasn't catering to my brother I would definitely have gotten the Chengdu bell dumplings in chili oil sauce. Even so, they were good! The wontons were jam-packed with pork and they were quite savory. Again, my brother devoured them. Everything together came out to $42 without tip which I think is a bit pricey for the area but would certainly be reasonable in Boston. I really enjoyed the food but wasn't wowed by it, but I would definitely come back next time I'm in town to see what their new offerings are!

She took the time to walk me through the menu, explaining each dish with a level of care and attention that added to the whole experience. Whether you're familiar with Sichuan cuisine or trying it for the first time, her guidance will surely enhance your dining experience. What struck me most about Pepper House were the authentic tastes and the meticulous attention to detail. From the tantalizing spice levels to the perfectly balanced flavors, everything was crafted with an authenticity I hadn't found elsewhere. I wholeheartedly recommend Pepper House to anyone curious about Chinese food or looking to rediscover the flavors of Sichuan. It's a must-visit place for food lovers and a gem that's waiting to be discovered!

If you love spicy foods GO HERE NOW!! Very friendly service and very fast!! Options for soup, cold noodle dishes, or cold dishes. I tried the Chengdu Dan Dan and the Special: Mr and Mrs Smith (beef, tripe, And celery) Sooooo addicting! You're gonna come back over and over! Support local!

If you are sick/tired of American Chinese food like Panda Express and wanna take a real bite of authentic Chinese food, I highly suggest going to Pepper House. It's a place full of hospitality and Sichuan-style Chinese food. You might like the food there (or not since it's not tailored specifically for American taste), but I highly recommend that you give it a try there. Chances are that you might love it in the end.

Small hole-in-the-wall restaurant with tasty food and the most accommodating staff 😋 My group was the only one sitting in the restaurant around 3 PM on Saturday and got the full attention of the staff. We ordered dumplings, stirfry noodles, dan dan noodles, cucumber, and soup noodles and the staff brought everything out quite quickly and even showed us how to mix our noodles properly. 10/10 would go back again

I liked their packaging! It feels like it was packaged with great care. The noodles were tasty and the portion was enough for me.

Very authentic Sichuan taste! First time seeing dry pot on a menu so I decided to try it and it did not disappoint! It definitely hit the spot. Unfortunately the table was very sticky and not super clean, and there didn't seem to be any air conditioning inside even though it was super hot. I will probably just get takeout next time since the food was amazing even though inside of the restaurant was kind of lacking.

This place is great. The pig ears are fantastic and I love buying a jar of the chili oil to take home. The owner is also very friendly and was great to meet! :)

Nice and cozy, awesome place for a casual bite! Kids love the fried rice and the dumplings! I'm a big fan of the Dandan noodle, check out the photos, there're 5 sides to mix up with the noodles for the finest and most authentic taste! Also liked the bean jelly and hot pot a lot. My advice, rotate and try everything out, you'll be surprised!

Pepper house is a hidden gem. I was a little nervous to go because I am a vegetarian, but there are a few options! They'll make the Chengdu Dan Dan noodles veggie with egg instead of pork.. It was really good! We also got the vegetarian dry pot and cold Sichuan jelly. So good!! I'm definitely going to be back. Parking was easy. The staff are super kind and accommodating. I'm happy I went.

The dumplings and dan dan noodles are the bombs. So tasty and i love it a lot. I make sure I carry out food from them every time i drive to Ellicott city. I always share good places like this to my friends

We ordered a few pre-ordered dishes at Pepper House for Thanksgiving. The double cooked pork and poached fish were amazing. They were delicious, large in quantity, and reasonably priced. We were very satisfied.
