👍👍 Cedar Ridge was a great place to rest on our Grand Canyon hike. There were restrooms here and great views. It is about 5% of the way down to the Ranch at the bottom of the canyon. Rest under the shade of the tree before you start your way back to the top. Remember, there are no rescues in the Grand... Cedar Ridge was a great place to rest on our Grand Canyon hike. There were restrooms here and great views. It is about 5% of the way down to the Ranch at the bottom of the canyon. Rest under the shade of the tree before you start your way back to the top. Remember, there are no rescues in the Grand Canyon. However far you go down you must then go back up. If you feel tired at the Cedar Ridge then it is time to return. The climb up is much harder than the descent.

The walk down is very pretty and so are the views from this point. It is well worth the time. It is 366 meters down from the top pf the canyon and about a 45 minute walk down. Up takes a bit longer. Be careful tho, it might be slippery on some steps because of the dust and the sand on the rocks. If you have the time, do walk down to Cedar Ridge after Ooh Aah Point.

What an awesome viewpoint for a reletively short round trip (2.8 miles) from the South Rim! You get great views of O'Neill butte, a panoramic view of the canyon, and some mule trains! This place does get crowded, but there is ample space to spread out and rest. Don't forget the water! There is no water on the South Kaibab trail, but there are restrooms at Cedar Ridge.

The South khabib Trail and everything you're going to want to know. For starters I highly recommend you before starting the hike or driving to the hike to look at the website and see if there's any warnings or concerns that you may want to know about. On the website it said that there was an ice cover at the beginning of the trail and spikes were recommended. I wish I listened to this and didn't take it as lightly. It was extremely slippery on the way down because of the snow and I really wish I did buy it a pair of $10 spikes I would have felt a lot more safe at the beginning of the trail. On the way back up the snow was a little bit melted and a lot easier to get back up than it was to get down but I still recommend you to check the website. I did this hike early in the morning so I was able to get one of the side parking lots off of the road near the hike. The spots get filled up very quickly so you can always park at the main parking lots for the Grand Canyon on the south rim and take a shuttle over. It wasn't a very hot day and I still recommend you to bring a lot of water. Also having Gatorade or any kind of electrolytes was extremely nice to have. I hiked all the way down to skeleton point and back up. I was extremely tempted to go all the way down to the river and I am more than happy I did not. At skeleton point if you go a little bit left about 100 ft on a side Trail you can clearly see the Colorado River Running. The hike on the way back is definitely difficult. I would consider myself in shape in a runner and this was still a challenging hike to do. It's super easy to go down and you go down a lot quicker than going up so you think you might be able to make it to the river which is true you can make it there but making it back up is the challenge. If it was any hotter I probably would have even regretted going all the way down to skeleton point. Ooh ah point is a very quick hike and most people can definitely do it if you have enough water. It's where you can see the east part of the canyon for the first time. A great place to take pictures and do a quick hike into the Grand Canyon and get the experience. If you don't go in the morning there will be a pretty big crowd of people. In between ooh ah point and skeleton point there is a bathroom but no running water. There are mules that go down and up to supply The Villages down there and to move equipment to maintain the trails. I was lucky enough to see them and it was a great experience. One of the coolest sceneries I've ever had on a hike before and is definitely worth it. Just highly recommend everyone to make sure they have enough supplies in are prepared for their hike and know what they're getting into. At skeleton point in a little crevice of a rock there is a old ammo box with a emergency water inside of it. Really fun hike highly recommend it just do what you are capable of doing and enjoy the view. If you have any questions feel free to ask below.

Amazing spot on the south Kaibab trail. It’s 1.4 miles down and about 1100 feet in elevation drop. Getting here is easier than getting back. In cold months or after a snowstorm, I HIGHLY recommend foot traction, whether it be slip stoppers, yaktrax, microspikes, or anything. At the start there’s a series of around 10 switchbacks (known as the chimney). This part is shaded most of the day and thus holds ice very well. This part can get extremely slippery and has some pretty vertical drops. I saw people doing it without traction and they looked like they were surfing trying to maintain balance going down. Scary to do without traction for sure. After the switchbacks, ice is melted and it’s just a trail with a few steep drop offs on your sides. Usually some mud patches but nothing too bad. .9 miles down you reach a lookout, called ooh-ah point. At 1.4 miles down you reach cedar ridge which is where I recommend stopping if you’re not an experience hiker. There’s a bathroom here but no water. You have to pack all the water you’ll use. The view is breathtaking and there’s ton of places to lay out a blanket and picnic (which is exactly what I did). Can’t beat the lunch views in the canyon. The hike up is grueling but doable, just have to put your mind to it and make it back up the mountain. Overall I definitely recommend south Kaibab to cedar ridge over the bright angel.

Second major checkpoint you’ll come across on your descent down this trail. Decently spaced area to walk around and absorb the view. Met lots of friendly faces here. The climb down can be a little difficult cause of the slippery rocks, but the ascent back to the top will make you want to never hike again.

Always remember coming down is kinda easy but, you have to go back up and if you're not prepared it's a little troublesome I was prepared this time and it was a good time.

First proper hike for my husband and I. I was concerned because I’m not really into hikes. It wasn’t easy, but not too hard either. Better to have shoes with a bit of a grip when going down and take your time going up - I made the mistake of rushing the first 10 min or so and got a headache. It took us 3 hours and 20 min with a half hour stop at Cedar Ridge. We had a couple of bottles of water and a Gatorade per person + nuts and apples, didn’t feel hungry. There are chemical drop toilets in Cedar Ridge, but no paper or ways to wash your hands, so better to have a tissue and alcohol gel with you. The views are breathtaking and it’s a great feeling when you make it back to the top.

Another unforgettable Grand Canyon hike. As usual plan on carrying plenty of water and a few snacks. Moderate to hard as per my own scale of difficulty.

Very nice hike up to this point. If you are good on foot, you can also do this in sneakers. Sturdy shoes are mandatory. If you are older or not so fit, you should pay attention to hiking shoes. The climb afterwards is steep but very doable. Urgently remember the sunscreen!
