This was our first time visiting as we've just moved to the area. We sat on the more formal side, which was quieter and more romantic for date night. The server was wonderful to answer our questions and explain some of the dishes. The Farmer's Plate is a great choice if you want to try several difficult Austrian dishes. They have a good variety including steaks, seafood and several appetizers and desserts.

This is a great place to have German food in Spartanburg. The food is always delicious, and we try to eat here whenever we visit Spartanburg. Highly recommend the wiener schnitzel! Love the jelly on top. And the spaetzle is excellent, too.

It was okay. Ate on Saturday evening at 6pm. Not too busy. My companion's fish was reportedly very good. The shrimp and grits I ordered were somewhat of a disappointment. (Not as good as I remembered.) Great service. Excellent coconut cream pie. (seriously, amazing). Was not terribly expensive. ($95 inc tip) I will return.

It's been more than 12 years since I last visited this restaurant, and it still did not disappoint. My husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary. We did not make reservations, but were able to get a table on the patio (it was a Friday night, so very busy). The food was absolutely amazing! The chicken and duck were cooked perfectly. The creme brulee was so smooth; it melted in my mouth. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. There is a great laid back vibe here. The only downside was that the water had a funny dirt like taste. I assume it was tap water. Filtering the water would go a long way in helping with the taste.

Simply Amazing!! I lived in Germany for 3 years and traveled to Austria many time. Right from the first bite I felt like I was back! By far the most authentic German/Austrian food I have tasted in the states! The Jagers schnitzel and Spitzel was absolutely DELICIOUS! the service was fantastic as well. We will be back!! I just moved to the area and we plan on being regulars.

It has been a while since we have eaten at this restaurant, and the first time under the new management. Not to worry. The new owners have not only preserved what makes Gerhard's a go-to place but also have applied incremental improvements - the menu presentation comes to mind. Our server, Brianna, well attended to us - friendly, courteous, and the right amount of attention. My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary on this visit, and our dinner selections tastily complemented the event. We look forward to returning and sampling other items on the menu.

I made a reservation for a romantic birthday. When I asked the host where we should dine for the best birthday she said definitely the bar! We were excited! We got to the restaurant early and said we would get a drink at the bar but were totally content to wait for our table. We were then not to long after told by the hostess our table was ready. Everyone was nice and kind but she took us to the casual side of the restaurant. We did have a great waitress and great food and wine. But only took a star off because the birthday was discounted and we didn’t get the atmosphere promised. Wish they would have followed through for what i wanted to make special for this birthday.

Decent experience. But not great. The food was OK but some was dry and some over cooked. Not what we usually expect at 25-35 or 40 dollars a plate. We usually expect great food every time. Service was OK. They are obviously under staffed. The area we dined in was very hot. The ac wasn't working or they didn't turn it on well for us one. Given all this. We probably won't be back for a long while.

We had a party of 7 Saturday night. Server was nice, and the specials were good. The appetizers were terrible and greasy. The restaurant reeked of fish. Some of the main courses were decent but at that price point, everything should have been great. My wife had been waiting all week to eat the crab cakes but they were a let down. When the server took up the plates, they were all still full of the food we didnt eat. Pizza is no longer on the menu but the online menu doesnt indicate that pizzas are no longer served. This place used to be special and I hope it gets back to form.

Outstanding!!! I had the elk and my wife had the farmers plate. More food than we expected and the quality was amazing. From soup to strudel and everything in between all of it perfect. And that Austrian house salad?? Delicious!!! Breanna was a gem!!

Absolutely amazing! I know it’s sometimes rough waiting for a table, but when there is a long wait there is a reason! We had a really great time here. The woman at the front, took her time to show me the restaurant when I asked her questions. This is our first time here, so I was really interested in looking around the whole place. Our waitress was Makayla, and she was super attentive! She answered any questions that we had on the menu, and also made suggestions for new things we haven’t tried. The fried coconut shrimp was absolutely the best fried shrimp! I did not even need the sauce. The spinach dip, large portion was huge for the price. The salad that we had, is much different than I’ve ever had but it was really good. The potato salad was surprisingly great. I got the farmers platter, and my husband got the ribeye. Everything was flavored perfectly! We will definitely be back. Probably our favorite restaurant Spartanburg now.

Having been built in 1993 it looked like a place in Germany. The beer menu was extensive and the wine menu was adequate. We had the best escargot EVER followed by she crab soup that was better than our favorite in FL. Hubby had rainbow trout Oscar with grilled asparagus. I had shrimp and cheddar cheese grit cake in a wonderful cream sauce. Then my husband surprised me with cream brûlée to die for. Emma was so attentive and she took great care of us. We will ask for her when we return.

UPDATE: We sat outside and our tables were spaced apart enough to feel good about eating out. We had the Caesar Salad with shrimp and the Mahi Kabob, with a side of fried potatoes. Food was served hot, wait staff was more than friendly. The salad missed the mark a bit. There was a strange flavor to be a Caesar Salad. We ate it but it will not be our choice next time we go back. The Mahi was very good. A cold Dunkel to wash it down was nice as well. Overall our visit was good. It was great to be out! Our visit was very nice. We ordered the BBQ pizza and the Buffalo chicken pizza. We also had the Farmers chicken plate as well. All served hot and looked good enough to eat, so we did. We had a few beers and the selection is broad. Our waitress was nice and had plenty to say about the beers we asked about. I would recommend Gerhards.

Guys the best home like food! I was extremely impressed and above all everything was so fresh and didn’t smell like fridge unlike some restaurants that we were at while traveling in Europe. German food is really close to what my grandma used to make. U gotta try their fried potatoes! Cheese pizza with schnitzel was also amazing!

Had a wonderful experience! They were incredibly accommodating with dietary restrictions. Lauren our server was exceptional and Chris overseeing the kitchen went above and beyond to ensure I was able to eat within my restrictions! We will definitely return!

This place is the best kept secret in Spartanburg. Food was amazing and prices are reasonable. We enjoyed the baked oysters and lamb. It was too die for!! We will definitely be back soon!!

One of my favorite places to eat in the area - we visit here frequently and have never had a bad experience here even though they’re usually pretty packed when we go. That alone speaks volumes because service and quality tend to slide when restaurants get busy. The food is amazing, a little on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it. And they have a pretty diverse menu so it’s easy to find something to satisfy whatever mood you happen to be in. Have never had a bad meal here. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, the waitstaff is friendly and attentive and they have a fantastic fireplace on the patio for colder weather days. I would eat here every day if I could afford it. Perfection.

We ate here on a Tuesday so it was not too busy, but not empty either. Other than the long wait for our main dishes, the service was friendly and the decor was nice. We ordered one pizza and that came out way before anyone else's main, so everyone else just had to watch him eat which was awkward. However, the pretzel was extremely salty, one of the worst beer cheeses I've ever had, the duck was dry, the crab cakes had zero seasoning and the pork tenderloin was tasteless with an overpoweringly sweet mushroom sauce and again, under seasoned mashed potatoes and sour tasting fried potatoes. The calamari appetizer was fantastic, but everything else was a disappointment, and the prices are ridiculously high for the low quality food we received. Hate to say it, but I'd never eat here again.

So much to choose from!! Authentic German options and so much more. Owner and servers are great! Hungarian pizza was so good. I tried the Farmers Plate to try a variety of things. So glad I did...yum. Boyfriend had beef stroganoff (with filet), delicious! Our entire party of 6 loved everything we had from oysters Rockefeller to lamb chops. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended!!!

This was the best dining experience I've had in a long time. The atmosphere was cozy, the food was exceptional, and our server went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful evening. Highly recommend Gerhards Cafe!

Dined in today for our first visit. Server was quick and polite. Kitchen was speedytoo! We both had the lamb with roasted taters. Loved our dinners. Everything was delicious. Service was great. Manager even stopped by to check on us. Will definitely return and skip the steak chain restaurants. Give them a try?

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in Spartanburg. Authentic decor...dark, moody pub. We especially love this place in the winter. I haven't tried anything that I didn't like. Great beers on tap!

Great german food in the area. Young servers, decent beer selection and huge portions. Easy parking and friendly atmosphere. Only drawback was direct unfiltered evening sun in the dining room..will go again.

We had a wonderful dinner for a group of 18 on Saturday night. Our waitress was great and the food was amazing!

Great service. The food was good but not for picky eaters. Would have liked to be able to find a caloric menu online or somewhere, so I can know how much I am eating.

We Love Gerhards! Food is amazing and the owners are so sweet! Unfortunately the last Four times we’ve been there (two with the same waitress) the experience has been less than enjoyable due to the staff. Bar tenders have always been friendly. Servers not so much. They don’t offer the specials anymore unless you ask, don’t ask if you have any questions, turn to leave while still dropping off food and drinks causing inability to get there attention, don’t check on the table after food arrives…. Basically no eye contact or contribution to communication. I told our server McKayla tonight while she cleared our plates, “I did not touch my side order”. Without asking if something was wrong she just took it, walked away and still charged. We noticed the entire meal she wasn’t attentive or around and when we left, found her sitting in the entrance way talking to the hosts. Suddenly made sense on how our service was. Disappointed. Maybe we’ll give it a few months and try again.

Had a great meal on Friday night. Grilled pork chop was perfect and so juicy. It was our waitress first night and she did a fantastic job Will visit more often. Well worth the drive from Greenville
