Book
hunting
is
a
rapidly
developing
pastime
of
mine—especially
during
the
pandemic,
when
other
forms
of
travel
and
pastime
are
limited—and
I
know
a
gem
when
I
encounter
one;
this
exceptional
book
shop
is
such
a
gem.
To
start
with:
you
walk
into
the
architectural
integrity
of
a
bank
lobby
kept
in
its
original
charm.
There
is
something
magical
in
the
soaring
height
of
the
ceiling
in
that
beautifully
kept
structure.
The
fact
that
the
stacks
in
that
room
soar
up
as
well,
just
adds
to
its
mystique;
some
popular
fantasy
films
may
begin
with
similar
designs...
Add
to
that,
the
“clutter”
of
books
that
stuff
the
right-hand
side
where
the
desk
and
stairs
are,
giving
that
nook
the
sense
of
majesty
of
the
master
that
reigns
over
this
domain,
just
adds
to
the
busy-bookshop
charms.
But
it’s
the
vast,
surprisingly
variegated
selections
within
the
well-organized
stacks
in
the
labyrinthine
rooms
all
the
way
to
the
back
of
the
building,
that
made
me
while
the
hours
away.
I
found
so
much
that
I’ve
sought;
I
found
yet
more
that
I
never
knew
I
wanted,
or
that
it
existed,
and
all
in
easy
to
use
order.
The
proprietor,
a
genuinely
enthusiastic
book-collector,
has
curated
an
exquisite
book-hunting
experience,
spiced
everywhere
with
tasteful
decorations,
prints,
maps
and
literary
toys
to
accompany
the
rich
collection
anybody
might
compile
from
these
stacks.
This
is
a
worthy
bookshop
to
which
one
periodically
returns;
the
stock
endlessly
turns
over.
