The emergency department is the worst I've ever seen. Most of the folks that work there don't seem to really care. There are a few that do, naturally, but on a whole they just don't. I've now been and out of the ER with my parents a dozen times or so within the last 18 months and others times only one or two I would define as satisfactory. Once you get onto a floor, your care is generally much better.

WOW! Just gave birth to my first baby on 11/13. The entire experience was FANTASTIC! From the delivery to post party recovery. All the staff are super sympathetic and caring. I learned so much about how to care for my baby in recovery and I didn’t feel clueless when I left the hospital as where to begin. The recovery rooms are really nice also, it felt like I was staying in a hotel room and the beds were comfy too. The nurses were respectful in letting me get rest as they knew I was really tired. Everyone was always super sweet and supportive. They were also really caring for my husband and his comfort. Would 100% recommend.

I took my son to the ER at this hospital last night around 8. Don’t get out of there until 10 this morning. All the staff was rude. We sat out in the main lobby for 5 hours. They knew he was severely dehydrated and about to pass out, no one check on him or anything. Then we went into another room and had to ask the phlebotomist if he could get fluids for my son. Took and hour to get fluids for him. Stayed in that room for another 2 hours. Then they moved us to the back where we stayed the rest of the time. I had to ask them for Tylenol for his fever. The staff was rude back there also. Then they had the never to demand that he get a CAT scan of his chest. When my son refused they gave us a worse attitude. Its all about the money they can make, they don’t give two craps about people. I don’t see how this can be a five star hospital, it should be a negative 5 star hospital. The service is very slow and sloppy. If you go to this hospital be prepared to stay a LONG extended period of time.

My 89 year old father fell and needed emergency medical care for pneumonia. Efficient care and positive attitudes from every single professional provider. The lengths the doctors and nurses, techs, greeters, security, and phone management went to in order for my father to be well-cared for was extraordinary. I’m grateful to all of you wonderful people ❤️ God bless you all!

I want to say a big thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, and staff that helped us tonight. We went to the ER because my 4 year old son fell and split his ear open on a chair which earned him 6 beautifully done stitches. We arrived there around 5:30 and were out of there by 7pm. Everyone was quick, efficient, and above all so, so nice. My little man was such a trooper the whole time and I believe it was because of just how amazing everyone was. Thank you so much!

We just delivered our baby here and from the beginning to end EVERYONE has been unbelievable. We’ve received impeccable care, support, and service! We’re not used to being treated like this and we are so grateful for the entire team that has been involved. From the nurses, techs, physicians, janitorial staff, food service, literally every team member has been amazing! We’d move in if we could LOL!

I really hope that human resources see this but i am talking about what i've seen at the hospital as a visitor. There is obvious neglect at this hospital. August 10th 2023 I arrived at the ER to visit my fiance who had arrived 2 hours ago. They were still in the waiting room, with iv's hooked up to their arm. They were crying in physical pain for hours last night. While waiting in the waiting area I not only saw the staff lose a patient, didnt know where he was, and 15 minutes later i overhear the nurses asking about how theirs someone in a room and they don't know who it is. Then, we get into the 2nd "room" which is a 5x5 mini room with a chair that doesnt recline. My fiance was suffering with gallblaudder issues and youre telling me they had to sit completely up and go through that pain. Then a couple minutes after sitting we get this very strong sense of urine. We called a nurse over and told her it mightve been a patient next to us. Turns out its the chair my fiance is sitting on. We asked if we could be moved, but they inspected the chair and said there was no scent. We sat in that piss smelled room from5-9:30. Then we waited for 2 hours for someone to tell us their test results when they kept telling us "5" minutes. The surgeon looked my fiance in the eyes and said "well I dont know what's wrong with you, but somethings wrong". We left around 10 because we didnt want to wait any longer. we felt ignored. Then, this morning 8/11 my fiance calls asking for test results and the nurse said hold on. We waited for 20 minutes only for a lady to pick up saying "who are you" and "what do you want" So waiting for 20 minutes for an answer, the lady tells my fiance "I do not have the time for you right now" So, now here we are, 9:16am, 2 hours later after my fiance called, and still, no results. It seems like there more bad reviews about this place than good. Maybe yall should reevaluate yourselfs. We are already on the talks with insurance about making a claim.

If i could give -10 stars i would. don’t go there for breathing problems and chest pain cause they will sit you in the waiting room for 4 hours while you’re gasping for air. They did absolutely no tests no x-rays on my chest. didn’t even check my heart. They gave me a breathing treatment that did absolutely nothing and prescribed me antibiotics and a steroid after i had told them i had just been on all that and it didn’t help. They sent me home not being able to breathe. Not even sure how this is still a hospital. They’re absolutely terrible and so unsanitary there. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL. you might as well just stay home instead of going there.

I went into the ED this past Tuesday night and it was my worst experience ever. I have never seen such incompetence and lack of compassion in, not only the nurses, but also the technicians and particularly the doctor. They did not get my initial complaint right, just listing me as having a cough. I had heart attack symptoms but was never given an EKG. The nurse kept complaining about me having to go to the bathroom when I was having uncontrollable diarrhea. I had 103 temp but it took them three hours to give me some Tylenol after it was ordered. The explanation being that my nurse was busy. I received no explanation when I left nor any further contact with the doctor after her initial appearance. Eastern Carolina deserves better emergency care than this hospital. Addendum: I went to see my PCP in Havelock this afternoon and he said that I was misdiagnosed. I was diagnosed with a respiratory infection and given antibiotics when I actually just had gastroenteritis. Two very different diagnoses. Please don’t go to this hospital if you are needing emergency care. Fortunately I didn’t have a life threatening condition. I feel sorry for anyone who does, and has to use this hospital. I should add that this review only applies to the emergency room, particularly at night. I have nothing but good things to say about the cancer center and imaging department. The one night I spent in the cancer ward, the staff were outstanding.

Absolutely by far the worst ER in the state. They leave patients in distress hooked up to IVs in waiting rooms and don’t check on them. The staff are contractors and couldn’t be less invested in the wellness of patients. They would rather hang out in the corridors gossiping about each other. I personally know of people who have died due to the low quality of care. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy there, it needs to live up to their fancy new equipment and fire everyone from the top down and re-staff with proficient employees. This ER is the worst joke ever played on this community. Run don’t walk to another county with a real hospital staff

I spent 16 days in this hospital with my uncle who broke his hip. Those involved from the 1st,3rd,4th, and Finally 5th floor know of whom I speak. I have Never witnessed such patience with such a combative, intentionally disrespectful patient who viewed wasting the staff's time as entertainment; Angelo, Omar, Dylan, Lauren, Michelle, and the other Sarah Silvermans, Tanya, I know I'm forgetting names, the Drs and PT, I just admire this staff's resolve to not be defeated by the likes of my Drunkle, and that's a major feat!!!

DO NOT ATTEND. HAVE NO CARE IN TNR WORLD. Worst hospital ever. Especially if you’re having issues and most definitely if you’re pregnant. Labor and delivery department absolutely sucked. When I went in (ON AN AMBULANCE after losing consciousness at work at 25 weeks pregnant) complaining about heart pain, cramps, losing consciousness.. they lacked to write down all the information I was giving them and put me down as “lightheadedness” and then told me to go home. I was completely alone since my husband is currently deployed so they refused to help me send any information or messages to him. They then told me if I wanted to get seen even more, to go check myself into the emergency room. Which I did.. I went down to ED and i began telling them all my symptoms and explaining that i had just come from labor and delivery and no one is listening to me. they took my information.. and i had been waiting for 7 hours crying by myself from all the pain, just to find out someone was deleting my intake information so i wouldn’t get seen and eventually leave. i didn’t. i then got put into a room where night shift actually did phenomenal and took care of me. they found fluid in my heart and hypotension. they kept me monitored and updated as much as they could. once morning shift came on, I was extremely disappointed. It began with no one coming to check in on me (maybe every 2 hours or so…). The left my blood pressure machine and heart monitor unplugged from the morning till the time i left (2pm) ignoring everything. The cardiologist who looked at my CAT scan and echocardiogram and EKG sent a nurse to tell me “you’re fine go home!”… I was sitting in the bed crying holding onto my heart out of pain when a male nurse said to me, “welcome to your third trimester where you’ll never feel comfortable again” and walked away. As a woman, as a mom, as a patient who needed help, I have never felt more humiliated and hurt inside and out in my life.

Had the most undignified in humane experience with zero empathy I have ever experienced in the ER today. I was brought in with kidney stone pain by the EMS. I was put in a wheelchair and parked in the lobby for over two hours with no relief no one checking on me nothing. They lady wheeling me and others around had an attitude and was rude. When I got in a room the ER staff never offered me a small bag for my things meds coat ect I brought with me. No blanket i was freezing. At check out they made me walk to the lobby to check out with no wheel chair after receiving a shot of pain meds. If I had of fell it would have been on them for making a patient doped up with pain meds walk 50 yards to check out while having extreme pain. Its a shotty run operation with many disgruntled employees so it would seem. But as long as profits are high and the CEO is making billions of dollars who cares about peoples suffering. Im done with this hospital and medical group in general. Im switching all my Drs from here as well. This place could learn something from Wilmington Health.

Best hospital and doctors and nurses and staff. Very caring and helpful beyond words. Saved my son's life when he had Covid. He was turned away from two other hospitals. As soon as he walked into carolina east ER they put him on oxygen and took amazing care of him. I took my husband there this year. He has stage 3 cancer. His doctors in another office could not figure out why he could not breathe. The staff at carolina east was so attentive and figured out the problem and helped him. They never gave up and even worked on his case after he was discharged from the hospital prior to follow up visits. I cannot thank the staff and doctors and nurses and everyone involved in his care enough. Basically they saved two lives for me. I'm forever grateful

I would like to thank the staff at this hospital for their professionalism and compassion. The wait was long, but every person I met was courteous and professional. They even gifted me a "get-well soon" card personally signed by the staff, nurses, and surgeons. Yet I hope I never have to see them again..

I was very ill and needed medical care. I got there and was helped right away. Spent some time in the ED, then in an observation room, then admitted to a unit where I received excellent nursing care. Discharged after 11 days feeling much better than the day I went in!

We were on vacation and my dad unexpectedly needed a 7 bypass open heart surgery. We would give this hospital and staff 10 stars if we could. Amazing experience from being out of state and a very scary situation.

I guess as long as your vitals are good, they think you can sit there 5+ hours. After 4 hours I was finally registered ( why isn't this done while they are doing your vitals), and I was taken into a room to get blood work done. After 45 minutes, no one ever came in, so I left at 3:00 pm, had been there sense 10:30am. If they are short handed, they should have a cut off limit or put a sign on the door to indicate the wait time so people have an option to go somewhere else instead of sitting in a chair for hours on end. They may have built a better ER room but it didn't help the service. You would think after seeing all these reviews, they would improve. It's always been like this

My doctor at Physicians East Greenville recommended I visit the NB ER as I potentially had a blood clot in my leg. He gave me instructions to have an ultrasound. Arrived at the ER at 2am.and left at 6am, never seeing a doctor the entire time we were in the room waiting. The nurse staff were courteous; however, this visit raises grave concern over lack of physician staff in the instance of experiencing a medical emergency.‼️

My mom recently had her knee replaced, and I cannot express how grateful we are for the Carolina East medical team! Her surgeons (Dr. Woodcock and her PA) were detail oriented and very knowledgeable. The support staff (Nurse Alex and Nurse Tech Deja) were so incredibly kind and helpful. We never went without a thing! She’s healing remarkably well and I just can’t praise this staff enough. So grateful!!!❤️

By far the worst medical care I have ever received. Do not go here for emergency medical needs- regardless if you have a child who can’t breathe or any thing else concerning emergency situation. They have no idea how to prioritize patients. Not only has the medical providers misdiagnosed several times in the past few month for my sons condition. They have absolute no concern for what you are actually telling them regarding health related history. As an active duty service member, I have seen better care in the worst possible places than what I have seen with Carolina East. It’s an absolute shame. I will never come back here again. The staff and medical team is incompetent, understaffed and have no concern for patients.

If i could give zero stars i would. I’ve had reoccurring issues with my gallbladder and had to come here while having a fit. I was immediately treated as though i was drug seeking when i asked how long the wait would be to get some nausea medication as i had been throwing up for three days. The staff here treats patients horribly. I eventually had to leave after about four hours of not even talking to a nurse after being triaged and put in a room with multiple other patients to wait. When we asked the person next to us they had been there for seven hours in pain without being looked at or even given fluids. I do not recommend this place if you want quality care or to even be treated with basic kindness as a human being.
