This place was absolutely amazing! I came across it by googling dog friendly places to stay and I also knew I wanted some seclusion out in the woods. It was very last minute but worked out perfectly to stay a couple nights for our four year anniversary. I honestly wished we could have stayed longer because it was so lovely and a great way to detox from our busy and tech-filled lives. We stayed in the Winnebago cabin. Everything was so clean and the perfect size for us. We packed up some food so that we could cook at the cabin on the charcoal grill. We had bonfires and star-gazed. We hiked at Matthiessen and Starved Rock. We played card and board games. Our pup, Rosie, loved every minute of it. The owners live there and are beyond kind and accommodating. I highly recommend this place and we will certainly be back to try out the cabin in the other seasons. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely spot with us!

This is our fourth time staying here and our second Thanksgiving weekend. We found this place during the pandemic and came here twice. It was peaceful, quiet, and the perfect getaway spot. We’ve now brought our daughter twice, and she loves the cabin and being able to walk outside. We definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone, and especially those who live in the city (like us) and want a getaway.

This is a lovely getaway if you want quiet, unplugged time away. The rooms are comfortable, everything needed is provided at a basic, better than camping level with an awesome wood stove to keep cozy in the winter. It was perfect with 4" of new snow to enhance the beauty. Bring the extras and enjoy!

We stayed at the Americana and had such a great time! Little did we know that being unplugged was exactly what we needed. We were pleasantly surprised with the amenities included already in the room (given that we had no clue what to expect since this was our first time here). The cabin itself was so cozy and comfortable. It was a peaceful time and so nice not to hear the tones of a text message or email and to be able to just soak in the nature around you. We made such great memories around the bonfire and cannot wait to be back again hopefully sometime soon!

We stayed in the beautiful Hunter's Cabin. It has a fire pit, charcoal grill and porch swing outside. Inside is a kitchen, queen bed, one twin bed, a futon, and bathroom. Everything was well maintained and clean when we arrived. In the office there are plenty of DVDs for a fun family movie night. It was great to be surrounded by nature and unplug from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Our daughters really liked the tree swings. I want to thank the owners for this great experience and for being so hospitable. We hope to be back again!

My husband and I stayed in the Mother-in-Law cabin with our Labrador, Murray. Very nice location on property. Loved the open, grassy areas with full grown oaks and pines scattered across the property. All well maintained. The office has plenty of fire wood (cash) and everything you may need or forgotten, too. The cabin was one room but large enough to set up an extra large dog crate and dog bed. We played games, did a puzzle, read, grilled out, had a camp fire and hiked the state parks. Very quiet but with the owners on property felt very safe. A great getaway.

We stayed in the Comanche cabin this week with our 2 kids and our dog. The property is gorgeous and quiet, only sounds of nature. Our cabin was obviously recently renovated and very well kept. Loved the giant whirlpool tub and charcoal grill and fire pit in the back. We loved the gift shop and rented a few dvds during our stay. This place is well worth the drive and we will absolutely be returning in the future.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Kishauwau Cabins. We stayed in the Winnebago cabin and our daughter and her family stayed in the Trading Post cabin. It was so nice to be able to walk over to visit with them and eat meals together and enjoy a campfire and cookout. The atmosphere was friendly, quiet and relaxing. Starved Rock state park and Matthiessen state park are very close and have nice hiking trails. I would enjoy a family reunion or just a weekend getaway with my husband at Kishauwau Cabins.

Very well maintained area, the cabins have a rustic feel to them. Very quiet and spaced out for privacy. This is the second time I've stayed at kishauwau, while we walk the state parks. Cell phone signal is very spotty, not sure if the indoor type kids would like that but perfect for a couple looking for some alone time. We like to keep it simple and this is a gem right outside the city and escape from the city life.

Amazing cabins in hidden area. Very quiet, comfortable and relaxing. They give you pretty much everything you need minus food and personal essentials - they do offer packets of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. We had plenty of clean towels and washcloths as well as bed linens and blankets - yes pillows too. We stayed at Zonta with our dog. Loved that you could borrow movies and/or games from the office; they also have items for sale on an honorary cash system with change readily available if it’s after hours. The atmosphere decor gives you all the cabin feels. We will definitely be back soon for some more relaxation. We didn’t go to any of the main parks but will do so next time

My spouse and I started giving our adult children, their spouses, and children a post-Christmas winter getaway in lieu of presents, for the last 3 years. This is by far the best cabin we've stayed at. We are all public servants working in Chicago, and this vacation gave us the necessary rest and relaxation we needed. Each household took turns cooking meals for all and showcased their best dishes prepared in a spacious kitchen space. Our family of 13 could all sit together with no need for a separate kid's table. The couches in front of the TV and fireplace weren't spacious enough for all of us to sit at the same time, but while Grandpa and the other sports lovers watched the NFL playoffs, Grandma was busy playing board games and putting puzzles together with the little ones. Everyone also enjoyed the 4 private bedrooms, the 6 twin beds in the great room for the kids, and the two bathrooms with showers. There's also plenty of room for you to have "me time" away from all the noise. Really, I can go on and on about how this space is perfect for families that want to connect. We're looking forward to booking this space again during other seasons so we can drive a few minutes out to hike at Starved Rock and maybe go into town.

We enjoyed an overnight stay in the Winnebago Cabin! The cabin was clean and welcoming! We enjoyed breakfast and hot chocolate bombs during our stay! The farm fresh eggs were amazing! We enjoyed the array of movies available to borrow as well! We had a very pleasant experience and will definitely go back!
