Just WOW! Stunning scenery, amazing rock formations, well marked trails and friendly/knowledgeable volunteers to help you enjoy your visit. The cool, sunny November weather was perfect for hiking. This place looks like a brownish version of Bryce Canyon hoodoos, but without the 3.5 million tourists. I ran into maybe a dozen hikers total across the 3 trails I did on a Tuesday. It was quiet and peaceful. Felt really comfortable on the trails as a solo female. Saw one other solo female hiking as well. There is a portion of the Echo Trail that is forested, I was a bit nervous about bears/mountain lions, but the volunteers assured me they’ve never seen them in that portion of the park. 100% worth the drive. Note, if your RV is longer than 24ft you can’t drive it up the mountain.

It's our first time here. Visitor center is just amazing. We really enjoyed our trail so much. Sadly that the campsite was full but that's ok. Highly recommend to come around Feb. I see some snow and cool breeze. Toilet is clean and well maintain . Plenty of parking space.

Five stars doesn't cover the awesome factor of this six star park! The geology is gorgeous and as interesting as anything you'd find in a more famous Utah park. The campground is clean, quiet, and easily accessible. The trails are mostly interconnected and guide you through some of the most beautiful terrain in the country. Although out of the way, Chiricahua should be a required detour for everyone on I-10

My husband took me out for a relaxing drive after a long week of work and we ended up at Chiracahua National Monument. I love going to higher elevations in Arizona, the weather is beautiful, some snow on the ground, we even saw a few deer and a javelina. So much beauty and rock formations that make you wonder how those all formed. For those inclined, there are plenty of hiking trails and camping. It was free to get in today, but there is a booth that I'm sure when they are staffed, a ranger collects admission fees. Today was spectacular and just a few hours from Tucson.

Beautiful hidden gem! Campground is beautiful and with lots of shade, which is a true blessing in the heat of the summer, which is when we went. If you can go on cooler months, I recommend that, since there are no electrical hookups to turn on the AC (as is typical of most national parks). Great little visitor center. The place has some spectacular sights and formations. Hiking trails are very well marked. Loved this park!

What a uniquely beautiful park. A great day trip from Tucson. Not too crowded either. We hiked the Echo Canyon Loop and it was perfect. The Grottoes were cool and easy to navigate through with glimpses of the rock formations beyond. Truly magnificent

CNM was amazing. Side tracked here on a road trip. Super glad I did. Drove through and hiked a few trails. Amazing views with no other people around. The trails, caves and rock formations were great. There's plenty of parking and clean vault bathrooms.

We have been camping in the Bonita camp grounds since1985 and have returned just about every year. All trails and scenery is just unbelievable. Check at the Ranger station about hiking trailer( time distance ect.) Trails are good but good hiking boots or shoes are needed. I prefer to take a walking stick lot steps and loose rock. WATER! Make you have it. Arizona can very unforgiving! A place you will be talking about for many years

First time here. Stunning views. The hikes were great. Did not do them all but the 2 we did were worth it. Camped at the bonita campground. Well kept campground and very shady. The faraway ranch was a neat blast from the past. The museum was not open but could walk the ranch grounds. The visitor center had a nice shop and a small museum of the area. Also went to fort Bowie about 20 miles north. Also super cool.

Great hiking here. Heart of Rocks Loop is one mile you’ll never forget-a delight to experience these uniquely weathered rocks. One of our favorite places to camp, tucked away as it is. Worth the effort to get to this National Monument!

Had a great time checking this place out last winter. I had been wanting to visit for a long time and made it out after a visit to Bisbee. Super interesting history and would love to spend a few days hiking and exploring. Just did the drive to the top and walked to a lookout. Need to research and find some cool hikes and if you camp/backpack anywhere close. I would love to go back maybe on the way to NM or Texas some day.

Loved it!!! The hike up Sugarloaf kicked my butt though. Pretty steep but worth making it to top. Spectacular view. Also took Echo Canyon trail. Awesome!!! Less challenging but with great views and rock formations. The visitor center is great. Staff super helpful and kind.

The Drive Up Was Beautiful. It Was Fascinating To See All The Rock Formations (so many questions?). The Road Is Paved And We Got Higher Up In Elevation There Were Guard Rails. There Was A Lot Of Parking Spots Available And The View Was Breathtaking. Also About Midway Up Is The Visitor's Station And We Popped In To Get Our National Park Passport (faux) Stamped. The Staff Was Friendly And Helpful

This is an absolutely spectacular park in South Eastern Arizona with an unexpected landscape unlike anything I've seen before. The visitor center has information on the park history and area wildlife as well as detailed hiking guides from easy to strenuous. We took the popular Echo Canyon Loop that gives a great overview of various geologic and environmental points of interest in the park, but there are definitely longer options if you are in the mood to take it to another level. This park also has amazing dark skies being close the three hours from Phoenix so consider camping out to see some spectacular stars. Visitor center has flushing toilets and many of the trailheads have pit toilets, but no running water so make sure you are prepared!

In March 2022 it was too windy to hike. In December 2022 it had just snowed and couldn't do any of the hikes. But the scenery is beautiful, the visitor center is small and cute, but so expensive. There are lots of bathrooms and trash bins throughout the park. A beautiful place to go alone or bring kids.

Hidden gem in my opinion. I visited in late March, and there were few people and the trails I hiked around here were breathtaking. It's kind of like Bryce Canyon but less people, very friendly and helpful park rangers and campground hosts.

Beautiful park! The drive to Massai Point is a bit harrowing. It’s well paved with a guard rail, but hugs the side of the mountain and has quite the drop in some spots. I probably wouldn’t be driving on it in less than perfect road conditions. That said. The views are worth it! The 6 mile drive from the park visitors center to the point offers tall pillars and breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. If you’re not up for a lot of hiking, I highly recommended the drive. Take it slow and have your camera ready! The views at the top are great, and there is access to trails from the top if you want to adventure a bit. The visitor center has a wheelchair accessible ramp, and likely has more information on accessibility throughout the park.

This place is SO FREAKING COOL!!!! It’s awesome! The cool alien rocks, comprised with the unique sky island vegetation make for an unforgettable experience. I hiked to the Natural Bridge, and also did the loop through the Grottoes and Echo Canyon. Lots of elevation gain on both of those, and the Natural Bridge is neat, but nothing super spectacular. Great hikes and a great place, and there was hardly anyone there on a Sunday! I can’t believe this place is free it’s just too cool.

This place is fantastic! Truly one of the most beautiful places I have been hiking in AZ with awesome, well maintained trails. We went March 3rd 2020 and due to Covid-19 the visitor center, campground, restrooms and parking are all closed but the trails are all open. You must park outside the gate and walk to the trails at the visitor center. It did tack on an extra 4 miles round trip to our already 7.5 mile hike. It was well worth it though! We did the heart of rocks loop. Head over to the all trails app to learn more about the different trails you can hike!

This place is totally worth the drive Make sure to go! really underappreciated and I had not heard of it before going myself. there are so many hikes here and they even connect to the mountain range next door. Make sure to stop in the visitor center talk at the rangers and they will let you know the best places to go

We ran across this and let me tell you WOW.... First stop at the grave yard after entering the history is very interesting, the visitor center is small but nice, there is a RV park but it fills fast. But it's all about the rocks very impressed, good hikes and photo opportunity. It's a must see

Serene rock formations south of Winslow Arizona. Has stream flowing at bottom of canyon. On the far south facing side there is a city of rock towers. Catch a great sunset.

Breathtaking views in every direction, so many hikes for all skill levels and lengths. My family's favorite hike in all of Arizona is the incredibly fun trail to the Echo Canyon Grottos! Easy enough for our 4 year old to walk the whole way unassisted and exciting enough to entertain all four of our children the entire time. We could easily spend a couple of hours or more just hanging out on the trail and in the grottoes.

(Translated by Google) Stopped in the middle after going from Las Cruces to Tucson. There are countless human-shaped rocks standing in the mountains. Actually, it's quite a place from Route 10, which is the main road, and you have to return to the same route.

What's not to like? Reminiscent of Bryce Canyon Utah in a lot of ways. Lots of hiking and absolutely amazing rock formations! When in southern Arizona you should do your best to get over here. My wife and I visited this place last week after confirming the "Open" schedule on the website. But when we get there, it was closed. The gate keeper said "the place is closed but you can walk up after parking the car by the gate office." So returned home. It's a cheating.

Another gem of a park. Hiking trails ranging from easy and under an hour to strenuous and most of the day give you awesome views of the countryside. The campground is small (no hook-ups, though water is available) and some of the sites are arranged oddly, making for an interesting time getting your trailer situated. Also, the entry and exit for the campground have "dips" (basically paved sections of the creek) which you have to traverse. Larger rigs or those with low clearance may wish to proceed with caution. Support your State and National Parks.

Better than some National Parks I’ve been to!! The rangers were friendly and helpful. The trail was easy to follow. We went on the Heart of Rocks trail- 7 miles and so beautiful! There is WiFi and a water bottle fill station at the ranger’s station. The campground is some of the best I’ve stayed at! They had trees for shade and fences for privacy. They had bathrooms (with a sink!) as well as containers on each site to keep food away from bears. Great park!

This park is under rated. In my opinion this can be a National Park. I wish we had more time to spend here to do all the hiking trails. I sure we will be back to explore more to this beautiful place.

  • 5/5 Cody P. 2 years ago on Google
Pictures don't capture the majesty of this place in the slightest. We were blown away by how beautiful this place is and how many unique hoodoo rock formations jet from the landscape here, and it's free to explore at that! You can spend as little or as much time here as you'd like - some people like to just drive the 8ish mile scenic drive, but the best experiences come with leaving your vehicle and exploring the trails. Some trails are shorter and quicker than others, some are a nearly half day trek, so it all comes down to preference. The park rangers do a great job of recommending trails based on what you're interested in and what your limitations might be. Just a heads up, the top of the scenic drive can be a bit tough for some athematic people because you're roughly 7000 ft above sea level. We honestly want to come back someday and spend closer to a full day here and not just a few hours. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

This National monument is not close to much of anything (over two hours from Tucson) but if you are in the area, it is worth the detour. The rock formations are whimsical and the trails are well-marked and plentiful. This is a hidden gem in Southeast Arizona.

  • 5/5 Ryan S. 11 months ago on Google
You can drive high up and get fantastic views from the parking lot, so very accessible to anyone that can get in a car. We packed sandwiches and ate at the picnic tables there. There are plenty of trails, but the half mile loop at the top offers amazing scenery without much difficulty.

Our day trip was well worth it to do this serine and picturesque hidden gem. I had heard of it but did not expect to be wowed, but I was! I highly recommend putting it on the list. The only downside is that we couldn’t take our dog on most of the trails, so we just drove the park; however even that was worthwhile.

Cool spot to take in. You can drive through, make time for hiking, and even camp. The campgrounds are great! We saw wildlife as well. I’ve heard it’ll become a Nat’l Park. I personally wouldn’t put it at that level of greatness, but it IS a neat place.
