One of the most incredible museums that I have experienced and I've been to most in DC, NYC and Philly. This one is much more interactive and tells amazing stories. The staff were kind and extremely helpful. The layout made the museum the most accessible ♿ from any that I experienced. The cost of the tickets were fair and you'll spend enough time to make it worth it. We enjoyed all of the exhibits but especially enjoyed the planes and old vehicles. Our son who is <2 years old was engaged most of the time which made it easy to manage him while enjoying. I highly recommend this to anyone even if you are not a history expert!

What an incredible experience. Always wanted to go but a friend who just went highly recommended it. We went as a family of four and got to meet an actual world or to Gunner. Being able to talk to him and listen to the stories was worth the visit by itself. One of the most interactive museums I've ever been to including the 4D theater. I highly recommend that if you are on the fence and interested in the history you must go! Be prepared to spend a minimal of 2 to 3 hours to experience everything at the museum.

This is not just a museum this is a true experience and eye opener. You hear about things in school or things family members have said but it has nothing ongoing here. I highly recommend the little movie that is narrated by Tom Hanks. If you buy tickets the next day bring them back and get another set of tickets for 7 dollars. We didn’t read a lot and still took us 2 days to go through this museum. They are building another section / building that will be a available in 2022 and we will be back for sure. It is very interactive with dog tags and you pick a person. Several gift shops and each shop has a different set of things. The restrooms were immaculate and smelt amazing. They have multiple restrooms all over each building. There is several buildings and floors. Each area is something different pertaining to the war. Thankful for all those who have sacrificed for my freedom.

This is not only a museum but an EXPERIENCE. It’s the most complete WWII museum I’ve ever seen. The exhibits are in gorgeous condition and I’m honestly amazed at the amount of items, stories, videos, and overall history that is showcased. If you come, definitely don’t miss out on seeing the movie. It’s worth the money and the time. We spent a good 4 hours here and still didn’t finish seeing all the exhibits. This museum is legitimately Disney World for all WWII history buffs.

Amazing day long visit; so many things to see in a number of buildings. Video presentations help bring to life those that were rescued as well as those that fought and were there to liberate those in concentration camps. Great place and I definitely will go back.

One of the best museums I have visited, one of the main reasons I visited New Orleans, and well worth the price of admission. It is huge, so either be prepared to spend the whole day there or have to come back the next day (they offer discounted tickets if you want to visit a second day, which I haven’t seen at many museums). I did not have the chance to try their food but it looked good and the prices were reasonable for a museum, and they had multiple spots to eat on their campus. A true must see for history lovers, or well everyone.

Amazing museum. Make sure you give yourself tons of time to take it all in. I spent about 4.5 hours and easily could have spent a couple more (if not the entire day). Really enjoyed the movie clips integrated into the exhibits and the atmosphere the museum creates moving from room to room. Museum staff take your picture as you enter, this is for photos that you can choose to purchase later with different backgrounds (like planes, ambulances, Rosie the riveter and the museum itself). If this might be a souvenir you'd like to purchase, thinking about a dynamic pose for the shot they take will likely look better than the type of photo you'd take for getting an ID. Also, I counted 3 gift shops including an entirely stand alone shop next to the museum so if you are looking for the perfect momento, make sure you take time to look through all 3. The museum is absolutely worth as much time as you can give it.

I am a WW2 buff. My father repaired airplanes north of London during the war. I've read numerous books about the war and watched many a movie. I was excited to go through the museum. This museum is incredible! The layout, the WW2 content, videos, photos, items from the war are very very impressive. All fronts of the war are addressed. There are 5 sections (3 buildings). I added a lot of new information to my already vast knowledge. I was told that they are adding a new building which will address the liberation/post war time. Make your reservations on line. You will pick a specific day and time to arrive. Be sure to pay the extra $7 for the 4D movie. Spectacular!!! As we toured during covid, we wore masks. The main restaurant was open. Nice bathrooms throughout the buildings. Elevators are available for those who cannot navigate stairs. Wonderful large gift shop, that also sells a few cold beverages and candy/snacks. Allow plenty of time. We spent 4 hours in the museum and easily could have spent more. Wonderful, knowledgeable volunteers are throughout the exhibits to answer questions. Leaving this museum gave me a new appreciation for the huge sacrifice of multiple thousands to maintain our freedom. NOTE:. It's chilly in these buildings so bring a sweater or jacket.

Too much to see in one day! This place is a good place to visit more than once. Maybe plan one building for each day. Can't do it all in one day and thoroughly enjoy yourself. There really is just too much to read and see. It was worth the time and money for what I did see. Some staff are more helpful and personable than others. All the volunteers are very informative, helpful, & want to share their knowledge with you.

A great experience for family and friends. Various information boards with displays about different aspects of World War 2. They have two floors of various displays and information to help you truly understand World War 2 from the beginning to the end. There is also a 4D theater that speaks about World War 2 and makes you feel the impulse of being there. I highly suggest that you visit and enjoy it. This is great for family and friends. A genuine experience for anyone of all ages. ENJOY!

Comprehensive and entertaining presentation of the world leading up to and through the conclusion of events of the world at war. Interactive displays along with plentiful and helpful Docents provide a thorough perspective, including commentary from actual participants. The 4D movie, narrated by Tom Hanks, is a must see... Plan for minimum of 4 hours to get through all of the buildings. An entire day if you want to read details and participate in the interactive activities.

Absolutely amazing. They curators and set designer really bring to life the different sets of the WW2 battles. You fill immersed in the scene of the battle. It gives you a deep perspective from the soldiers that were there in the battle fields. God bless America and our brave men, women and civilians that fought and still serve.

The National WWII Museum is a poignant journey through history. I was immersed in the courage and sacrifice of those who served. The exhibits are incredibly detailed and moving. A day I spent here was the best day of my trip so far. Tip: Plan a full day to explore everything. The parking garage nearby is convenient. Fun fact: It started as a D-Day Museum in 2000 and has grown into a world-class institution honoring all aspects of WWII. An emotional and educational experience not to be missed. 🇺🇸🌟

One of the finest museums in the country, with plenty to learn for both WW2 novices and experts. Interactive exhibits, an excellent Tom Hanks-narrated 4D theater show, and rotating pieces that have featured stories from the home front and postwar focuses (technology, civil rights advances, etc.). Moving and well-crafted for ages 10 and up. Cannot recommend more highly if you have any interest in the WW2 and postwar period.

What a great museum to come visit. It's a massive multi building museum that will leave you amazed and they are not even done yet. As of this review they are adding a new building to make your experience better and more educational. This is great for all ages with a really fun "dog tag" interactive activity tracker that gives you a more in depth experience to the war. Make sure to come with plenty of time to fully take in all this place has to offer and enough time to check out the gift shops that have so many cool stuff for all ages. There is a little Cafe of you need some snacks while learning some history that will give you a new perspective of what all these brave veterans gave and sacrificed to make sure we all have our freedom. Enjoy!

Amazing and important place. The greatest generation and the greatest war are well represented here. So much to see that spending 6 to 8 hours is reasonable, so if able, make multiple trips. Recommend getting the dog tag of a true life participant so you can follow their journey. Clever info stations are available throughout. This place gives a fitting tribute to all of the people who helped and sacrificed, each in their own ways. Plenty of artifacts and Building 5 has a great collection of aircraft. Highest recommendation.

Truthfully speaking I wasn't quite satisfied with the experience and I reckon I could have found a better way to spend the $32.5 entry fee. There is a good selection of small arms but only six or seven aircraft and one piece of heavy armour on display and that's if you look hard enough. The guides aren't superbly knowledgeable and contrary to what they tell you at the entrance the whole thing can be seen in an hour or two unless you're a red blooded American or interested in American propaganda. There are a lot of films and videos going on but not a lot of substance unfortunately. I did enjoy the excellent air conditioning and the southern hospitality though.

I can't believe how much there is to do here. You will easily spend the majority of your day here. Plan for several hours. There are 4 major buildings to go through, and each will take well over an hour to see. You probably could spend multiple days here if you are interested in the history. Very interactive and one of the highest quality museums I've been to.

There’s so much to see here! What I love about this museum is that it also covers the Asian side of the war, which is an area that is usually outshined by the European areas. Definitely allot a lot of time for the museum if you are a history crack and enthusiast! We spent 3 hours here and definitely would spent more if we had more time.

This was an incredible museum with so much to see. Lots of great hands on exhibits and videos. You can get lost in that ship!!!! We spent a few hours going through and still didn’t have enough time! There are kennels by the parking lot with fans if you need to have a cool spot to place your pooch! Definitely worth going to see! Thank you to everyone who has served!!

This is by far the best museum I've ever been too. You will be immersed in each campaign with incredible decor as you learn about personal stories and all the details for each front during WW2. They have broken each campaign up to give them each their own moment, so walk through the battle in the pacific, Europe, and the home front and then delve deeper in other exhibits. I was worried it would be boring to my younger children (8 & 10) but they really enjoyed the interactive exhibits and movies throughout. For my older kids and I we were brought to tears a few times and all left learning things we never knew.

Large, with many excellent exhibits. Brings you through the timeline of WWII with very good digital media displays and hundreds of well presented artifacts. A little confusing layout of the various buildings and a lot of up and down to different levels and walk ways. The volunteers were informative and helpful.

Wow, this museum is no joke! We spent 4 hrs here and only covered most of one building and part of another, there were at least 5 other buildings that we didn't even get to begin to explore, that's how much there is to do here. The exhibits are put together so well with basically every form of learning media along every part of the exhibit. So much attention is paid to the museum guests experience and how the exhibits flow together, providing a very immersive experience that takes you along the American experience through the war and leading up to the war which is one of the most interesting parts for me. I will gladly go again the next time I'm in NOLA!

Amazing museum with a very informative and helpful staff. From the very start, the gentleman at the front door was extremely helpful. The interactive exhibits told an interesting story and both the Road to Toyko and Road the Berlin were incredible. Plan on spending an easy 3 to 4 hours here to really soak in the entire experience. It's well worth your time. We had a great conversation with Duncan Quaid. He's very knowledgeable and has several personal antidotes that elevate the experience.

Really a wonderful museum! Usually I'm the one wanting to go to museums but this time it was my husband wanting to go. I particularly liked the many video presentations, since I don't care to sirens all day reading played plaques. Very visual and interactive. Would definitely suggest passing for the movie Beyond All Boundaries, it's not expensive and is a highlight. Plan on spending all day, there's a lot to see! I did have a hard time figuring out how to fully use the dog tag they give you. The instructions once you leave the main enlistment area/train are vague.

This is an amazing interactive museum that brings WWII up close and personal. The "dog tags" you get in the beginning to follow a soldiers story is brilliant! Plan 1 or 2 whole days if you really like to read and take time in all the exhibits. The American Cafe and 2 gift shops make this such a memorable experience. FANTASTIC learning experience for kids.

We do a lot of traveling, and this is one of the best museums I've ever seen if not the best. It's so immersive and tells the story of the battles and in such an interesting way. I love how they weave in personal stories and you are able to follow your own soldier by scanning a card throughout the museum. If you love this sort of thing, you will need a whole day. However, you could take a half day and still get a lot out of it. I highly recommend!

I’m a huge fan of learning about WWII (Been to Germany and Isreal to see some of their memorials). This museum was impeccable! I was so impressed with the details and thought put into the rooms. It felt like they immersed you right into the history. Please plan plenty of time to do this - 2hrs was not enough time! There was also way more people than we were expecting, but we still had such an amazing time! Would for sure like to come again! I feel like you just cannot possibly go without learning something new!

It was life time experience to visit this Museum. Hats off to the makers of documentary film on WW II. Every American must visit this once. It has great collection of War time photos, Articles, Arms and Ammunition, fighter planes and most importantly the caption/Narration given on each photo /items displayed there are Excellent. It gives feeling of Patriotism to Americans and shares History of their past.

Amazing WWII museum! We spent 5 hours here and still felt like we were rushed at the end! So much to see and so many fantastic videos and exhibits! Highly recommend the 4D movie experience. It was really good. We saw advertisement for it in the airport as we were exiting and decided to add it to the iteanrry. Great decision. Was able to use student ID to get a discount. There is Train in the lobby that assigns you a person to follow on their journey during WWII. That was a new experience. Everything was great from the exhibits, the weapons, the facts. The only problem was that we got there at 3 pm and the museum closed at 5 pm so we had to rush and couldn’t see some of it. Advise: Give yourself time.

This museum is easily on of the best museums I've ever visited. Each room is vibrantly detailed that I feel like I'm a part of the action. There's a wonderful balance between historical footage, and text panels. You're immersed from the start because you're given a "dog tag" ID where you can collect digital artifacts and follow a real soldier along their historical path. It's very rare for a museum to get you this engaged. Even if you didn't care about WWII when you entered, you'll leave appreciating it so much when you exit.

Best WWII Museum I've ever been to. I Planned to spend a couple of hours and ended up staying all day. It takes that long to see everything. They tell a great story with a combination of videos and displays. Very well done. The movie is an extra $7, but worth every penny. There is a cafe with food, snacks and ice cream. Wasn't crowded.

Stunningly good museum. Filled with interesting exhibits and artefacts, with loads of information. Everything is presented in a very readable way and there is lots of good context given. The museum is easy to navigate and is very clean. There are a couple of places were the lighting is maybe a little bit dark, but things are still readable if you get closer. The Beyond all Boundaries 4D experience is very good, but I wouldn’t say it is essential. The exhibit on the pacific and the d day exhibit were particularly interesting for me. I would definitely suggest getting there early as you can very easily spend a whole day here.

This place is huge. There is so much to see and it is so well done. We started out in a "train car" where we were given a soldier to follow throughout the exhibits. They have so much for both the Pacific and European theaters of the war. Make sure you give yourself several hours to dive into everything.

Oh my goodness!! This was the best museum I have experienced in a while, and I mean EXPERIENCED! This is definitely a day to remember, block out the entire day and experience this exhibit. You will thank me later! I will be back because I didn't block a chunk. They do offer a come back to finish ticket for $12 within 7 days of your original ticket. I had to do that but I still don't think I saw everything. This place is massive and chock full of memorabilia and information. I can not stress enough TAKE YOUR TIME and enjoy!

Worth the visit. Got to learn so much about the war. The video exhibits, the set up, the detailing there is just too much to see and learn. Very in depth. You would need a complete day to spend here and learn about, read the letters, old documentation, learn about the outcome, the videos of leaders. Very inspirational. Definitely coming back!

An absolute must for New Orleans, a rare glimpse into the struggles of both battlefronts and the logistical difficulties of fighting two separate directions simultaneously. The horrors of the Pacific are rarely explored in this manner and it's incredibly eye-opening of the atrocities often forgotten in the Pacific. The Dog Tag experience is a great addition that adds a very personal touch to the tour, but the lines for the booths to hear the next portion of the story were often prohibitive and it was unclear which were for the historical artifacts explanation and which were for the dog tags. Highly recommend the submarine experience and the two-day pass if you truly want to experience the entirety of the museum, it's a fair bit of walking and time commitment to complete in one day.

The National WWII Museum has done a great job creating their exhibits. Each one transports you to a specific place and time. They did a great job capturing the essence of time through the use of furniture, art, music, effects, videos and displays. It truly is a remarkable setup. At times it felt like we were entering a different world. The dog tag experience was appreciated because it allowed us to follow a veteran's war experience as we moved from exhibit to exhibit. We followed a Native American soldier and an African American soldier. It gave a life significance. It is a large museum with multiple buildings but with accessible pathways. My wife and I navigated all areas without a problem. We missed the 4D experience and were refunded for it, but do try it as it was directed by Tom Hanks. It's only $11 with admission. The museum volunteers and employees were super helpful. They are essential to making your navigation of the museum successful. The best part of our experience was the private 2-hour curator tour. It is offered once a month to a limited group of 10 people. It is $250 pp but it is worth the price, especially because you get close and personal with the collection. We bought all our tickets in advance. The curator's knowledge is extensive. He's mindful of his audience in adapting the tour. Chase is an exceptional curator. He balanced technical facts about the private collections with sociopolitical and psychological information to help his audience make sense of the culture, climate, pressures and requirements of the time. His view was multifaceted and not ethnocentric to the American experience. We appreciated this museum's effort to shed light on all issues.

A must see if you visit New Orleans. The thought, creativity and planning that went into this amazing, top-notch complex is mind-blowing. During COVID, the museum offers timed entries and complementary touch-screen wands for the interactive displays. At no time did I feel uncomfortable by crowds. This is no ordinary museum with old clothes and relics behind glass display cases (although there are several). The designers went to great lengths to reconstruct a home in the 1940's or to make you feel as though you are in a snow storm during the Battle of the Bulge. My child loved the 5 airplanes suspended in air. The 50-minute movie, Beyond all Boundaries, narrated by Tom Hanks is a 4-D presentation that is a must-see. The most profound thing that stuck out in my mind was how reverent and silent all participants were during their time in the museum. There are friendly staff members located throughout the facility that are willing to help you or explain an exhibit to you. Private tours are available and a parking garage is located across the street. I recommend staying at the Higgins Hotel across the street as they sometimes offer package deals. All-in-all the experience was moving, beautifully and tastefully done and is a lasting tribute to the men and women who fought to preserve the liberty and freedom we all cherish.

A must-see museum for anyone interested in history or learning more about the sacrifices of the greatest generation. You can easily spend an entire day here (my wife and I did) looking through the exhibits and reading all of the personal anecdotes accompanied by artifacts. The exhibits are very well organized and bring you into the era as you learn about the history of some of the major battles and cultural aspects of the war. I highly, highly recommend visiting if you're in New Orleans, it's definitely worth the trip.

I will start by saying that I am not a history buff type. While interesting it’s not my cup of tea. That said this place exceeded all expectations!!! First of all, it’s HUGE so if you are going and want the most benefit, give yourself time and get there early especially since they close at 5pm. There’s a ton to see and they’ve done an excellent job of organizing the information/ history with useful artifacts and amazing ambiance. It almost reminds me of a Disney attraction since it’s so well put together, in fact it’s like a modern and cleaner version. There is an interactive component that allows you to “follow” specific people through their WWII experience and it add to the immersive experience you do not expect when visiting a museum. We only had 2.5 hours to visit and feel like we cheated ourselves but happy we got to see it at all since we were only in town a few days for a conference. Highly recommend this museum for everyone!

The National WWII Museum is an incredible and immersive experience from start to finish. The museum has curated an amazing collection of artifacts and interpretive materials, then presented them in a coherent format suitable for nearly any visitors. We especially loved the Boeing Gallery with full size aircraft and vehicles on display. So glad to have finally gotten to visit this wonderful facility.

This was one of the best museums I've ever been to. I'm a history buff...but even my wife enjoyed this. It's a lot to see here you can easily spend a day or two here if you want to see everything. What put this museum above the rest is it's very interactive. You feel like you're walking into a time capsule. You start off getting a dog tag...you register it and you are assigned a solider and you will follow their story throughout your journey through the museum. I don't want to spoil anything...but this really keep visitors invested and you really want to see what happens to your guy or girl. It's Genius! We didn't get a chance to see the "Beyond all Boundaries" or do the Submarine walk through....simply ran outta time. But I will definitely be returning to experience those. This museum is a must see in NOLA! Just do it...like Nike mane. 💯

This was a truly awesome experience and it is one of the best historical museums I have visited in my travels all over the country. There are amazing and well organized displays with videos, music, radio broadcasts and artifacts such as soldiers' uniforms in each area. Very easy to follow and the museum docents are very friendly and knowledgeable. This museum does an amazing job of really bringing history to life and engaging visitors, especially if you register with the dog tags to follow a soldiers path in the war. I like how the museum organized the exhibits to reflect the diverse aspects and components of the war including rise of Axis powers, War in the Pacific and several key battles, internment camps, Tuskegee airmen, surrender in the Pacific and Europe, Pearl Harbor and how everyday citizens were impacted by the war. This is a must do activity no matter what time of year you visit New Orleans.

Well done museum. There are a lot of great exhibits. The Boeing room was a definite highlight. They have several WWII era military planes hanging in the room with observation walkways at a couple levels, including above the planes, to allow you to see the planes from different perspectives. It was really cool. The museum is housed in multiple buildings. If you want to see everything, you will need to plan on being there for an entire day, or two.

This has to be our favorite museum that we have visited. It was amazing...the way that it is completely involved and not just WW2 artifacts on the walls. We really loved how the entire museum was very in depth...and do yourself a favor and watch the movie...IT WAS EPIC. 4D and so involved with lights, smoke and things moving from overhead...it was the highlight.

Truly one of the greatest museums in all the world. An absolute GEM, this museum is also a juggernaut in terms of size!! We did all the exhibits, the movie, and the submarine experience. Had a great Po Boy for lunch at the American Sector! Spent about 4.5 hours here and still didn't see everything. Great exhibits and so incredibly educational and moving. The movie Beyond All Boundaries was great too - very cool how they do it in 4D. Also got to see my grandfather's brick. This was one of the best days of my life. Can't wait to get back with my family!!

Wow. Absolutely amazing. I’ve been to a lot of museums in my life, and this is definitely one of the best! Be sure to leave the better part of a day to spend exploring this massive, sprawling museum, with tons of exhibits and real artifacts.

Probably one of the best museums I have ever been to. This place is huge and comprehensive. The interactive exhibits and videos are very helpful and informative. Honestly, you need the better part of a day to really do this right. I love that they give you another day for an extra $7. The 4D movie experience is a must. It is well done although a bit simplistic. I was glad to see that they spent at least sometime on the Holocaust. The treatment of the atom bomb was insufficient. Rather than just telling us what happened, they seem to be making a case for it and avoiding our main island invasion. That meant they spent a lot of time explaining what an invasion would mean and then 10 seconds on the bomb not really explaining in detail that there were two bombs and why they dropped both and showing what the effects were. It seemed a little defensive. Again, this is a spectacular museum. It's almost worth going to New Orleans just to go here.

If you only do one thing in New Orleans, visit the WW2 museum. It is FANTASTIC. The exhibits are thoughtful, and the layout of the museum is easy to navigate and follows good narratives. Highly recommend grabbing a "Dog Tag" and watching the oral histories. Also, it's a huge museum, and if you want to see everything in-depth, you'll need about 6 hours, but it's well worth it. I already know I'm going to come back someday, and hopefully soon.

Excellent museum! We took our 11 year old son who is very interested in WWII, especially D-Day. It is a huge museum that we spent a day and a half going through. I felt some of it was repetitive (The Road to Berlin mostly), but I enjoyed my time there. The movie, Beyond All Boundaries was really great! My teenage daughter who didn't want to be there at all really enjoyed the movie also. I loved the personal stories of different people throughout the museum. You receive a dog tag for a person connected to the war when you arrive and you can follow their journey throughout the museum. I honestly lost interest in this as it was such a long time before I got to the section where my dog tag started working. I would have enjoyed seeing where my veteran was throughout the entire museum, not just when he entered the service. We also attended the Expressions of America show in the evening. The Victory Belles put on a cute preshow. The outdoor light and audio show was really neat. I don't think they arranged the seating well and often the things to read were too long, or not up long enough to fully read. I highly recommend this museum to anyone considering going.

Favorite WWII museum yet! I thoroughly enjoyed reading everything I could and the experiences are so immersive it’s very captivating. The dog tag part was confusing for us and they didn’t work the way we thought they were supposed to so we kind of just forgot about them. The staff were all incredibly helpful and involved. At one point I lost my tag and we had to double back to get a new one but they were quick to help! I’d absolutely return to continue reading. The catwalk to view the planes and the D-Day exhibit was a huge favorite!

Be prepared to spend a lot of time here, and it is worth every minute. The displays are often interactive, downloadable using a card they give you, and sometimes even overwhelming. Parking is something they do not really cover, it is downtown, we paid to park close, had to scan a QR code, pick the amount of hours we needed without knowing the rate, were then alerted that if you go over the car will be booted, 24.00 for 4 hours. After paying 40.00 per museum ticket, you make choices based on convenience. We ate at the restaurant/bar located in the American section and the menu offered amazing choices and the food was outstanding.

My husband is a WW2 buff, and we knew as soon as we saw this museum on Things to do in NOLA, we'd be going. All the exhibits are AMAZING. The people who put this place together are truly brilliant. If I can give you ANY advice, it'd be to SEE the 4D movie called Beyond All Boundaries. We go to a ton of museums and this is above and by far the best movie we've ever seen in a museum. Absolutely worth the money!! The volunteers were all wonderful and helpful as well!

Very thorough. Lots to read and view. Biggest critique is that it doesn't flow naturally. Hard to tell when to go from one exhibit to the next in sequence. And was hard to tell when the exhibit ended and where the exit was. Other than that, this is a top-notch museum with excellent exhibits. Lots to do. Could easily spend 5 hours here but a minimum of 2 is suggested.

One of the best museums to visit especially for history buffs. Great collection of WWII artifacts with very educational presentation. Don’t miss the 4D documentary show complete with wind and water spray effect. Plan to spend half a day at least to get the full experience. Don’t skip this museum if you’re in New Orleans.

Absolutely incredible. I’m not even a history nerd but after leaving the museum I want to be. Totally peaked my interest in this war. Interactive and aesthetically pleasing. Captivating. Good for all types of learners. The museum takes you on a journey from the beginning of the war to the end in a profound way. I learned so much. You could spend an entire day here. My favorite thing I did on the trip and very far from my usual interests. I would go again. The staff seemed to love their job and be very well versed in the subject. 10/10.

We arrived late but were able to do a quick tour of the museum; this is so well designed and put together. One could (and should) spend at least a couple of hours looking at the exhibits because there is so much to see and so much history to absorb. I wish we had had more time to enjoy the museum but did enjoy the short time we had. (I didn't get much time to take photos).

Let me start by saying I am not a fan of history... But my husband is and every time we come through New Orleans we say “next time” to this stop. So here we are... we are also 10 months or so into “Covid-19” (I hope someday someone reads this and needs to ask what that is)... masks are required, visitors buy tickets online, you are given a little stylus to interact with so you are not touching everything along the way. There is A LOT to do and see here and judging from the construction outside there will be even more in the near future. Plan several hours to be here. I have a son who is currently deployed, so I loved to be able to see and read the letters to and from home that were on display. There are a few gift shops and a restaurant as well. Lots to be seen and learned here.

This museum goes above and beyond! The details are amazing as they walk you through the lead up and the war. Very state of the art. We couldnt take in the whole museum in 4hrs. We've been to other WWII museums even been to the DDay beaches. This museum is great! Worth the price though more people may learn about WWII if they could afford the entry. Knowledge is power and that's the point right? Maybe too steep a entry price for a family to afford. A family day at half price would be a good idea.

For a WWII geek like me it was a MUST. We couldnt even finish the journey in 3 hours but I wouldve had more time there if possible. There are separate arenas for Asian and European campaigns from Allied perspective. Photos are allowed so we clicked a lot. Not only iconic photos, the museum has a huge and rich collection of letters, fatigues, ammunitions, replicas, real parts. We relived an extraordinary journey of audio-visual ww2 experience. Was not sure about the dog tag idea but it tells stories of war heroes in different theatres of battles. Must visit.

Visited today. The museum is a great place. Good material and well organized. The reason I am giving a lower rating is due to the covid handling. I liked on the website the description of the approach to reopen under covid. Entry was to be based on timed advance entry with a control on the number admitted, directional viewing of exhibits, etc. Where it broke down was in the first major exhibit on the second floor. People were buying tickets and just entering. I actually wasn't checked to see if I had a ticket and what time I should enter. As we entered the "Prelude to War" section, we were asked to wait for a moment as they checked the number of people, but this broke down in the exhibit area. The rooms are smaller, people congregate, stop fully wearing their masks, etc. We did not feel we could appreciate the museum as we were worrying about the number of people around us. About 30 minutes in we decided to leave. The museum was nice enough to agree to refund our tickets. They did say that due to construction they are forced to have everyone go in the same way. Also that the other buildings are more spacious. The largest suggestion I would make would be to have staff enforcing more distancing and mask rules in the exhibits while checking how many people are in the different sections of the exhibit. I do appreciate the effort that the museum and staff have made. These are trying times. We do hope to come again in the future.

My husband and I have been to several war museums around the world, and this museum is one of the best. We arrived at 11 AM and stayed until close, and we didn't even see everything! If time permits, see the 4D movie... its very engaging and had some surprise effects! I was blown away by how many artifacts and stories were compiled here. Many exhibits were very emotional, having read some of the last correspondence these brave men and women ever received or wrote home. The gift shop in the main building is easy to overlook, but I recommend you take a look in there! Shelves upon shelves of great WWII books and unique products for the kids (pin up paper dolls, comic books depicting the war, etc). If you are hungry, pop into the American Sector. I only had a snack (chili cheese fries) but oh my goodness it was DELICIOUS! Highly recommend this museum!

I highly recommend stopping by the World War II Memorial while you're touring the National Mall. In the middle of this memorial, is a beautiful water fountain. Surrounding the fountain, you will see 50 columns. Each column bear the name of each state. It was a rainy and windy day when I was there, so standing by the water fountain was extreme cold. We didn't get to stay long since the water was splashing everywhere because of the wind. We decided to head toward the Lincoln Memorial which was pretty much behind this memorial. Before walking toward the Lincoln Memorial, you will be walking across the Reflection Pool to get there. Very convenience that everything is located near each other.

The most well displayed WWII collection. The fact that it focuses solely on WWII events, makes the experience so educational. The intimate displays and amazing artifacts are second only to the incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff. From the 4D film to the airplanes, I was just so impressed. The story of all sides can be found in this ever-growing collection. The personal interviews of soldiers makes the visit feel like stepping back in time. The campus can all be covered in a day, but you might spend a week here and still feel like you missed something.

One of the best museum I've ever experienced. Spent five hours and could have spent even more time. Bring a light jacket as air conditioning can make it quite chilly. Comfortable shoes as well.

One of the best and most informative museums that I’ve ever experienced. It’s very touching to find yourself there. The location of the place is also convenient. Loved how there were many ways of going about experiencing different aspects of world war 2

  • 5/5 Aaron T. 3 years ago on Google
A truly amazing experience! All the exhibits were accurate and very interactive. Allowing you to use a dogtag to see a person's journey and experience during the war brings it closer and more personal. The recreated terrain and videos give you a real visual on what they went through. Plan to spend an entire day there if you want to experience it all.

First time going to the museum and I was completely blown away. I've been a WWll fanatic my whole life and this place really brings it to life. Would highly recommend if you have any interest at all in WWll.

Quite the experience. Took the nephews and niece (ranging from 4 to 8 years old) and there were things that held there interest but probably better for slightly older children. But as for myself I loved it. Definitely worth taking two days to read everything and see all the exhibits

  • 5/5 michael s. 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful facility, our tax dollars at work. Not really for children. Interactive "dog tag" is a neat concept. Only got through Europe in 2 hours. Will definitely be back to see the Pacific. If you have family that fought in this war it is very emotional.

The museum is outstanding. We spent 5 hours there and still didn't see it all! In 5 hours we still had to pick and chose what to see and what to walk through!

  • 5/5 Sarah M. 3 years ago on Google
We spent most of the day here and I feel like we didn't see half of what this incredible museum has to offer. There's so much to take in and the immersion is incredible. If you're a WWII or history buff, this museum is a must-see.

This place is enormous. I know most reviews of museums say “you can’t see it all in one day” and this museum is no different. There is so much to read and watch. I think I learned more at this museum than I did in history class. There is a reason this museum ranked number two in the country. Definitely recommend going here on your trip to New Orleans.

This museum is huge; I highly recommend spending two days, even currently where some things aren’t available due to COVID. It is set up as an interactive adventure starting on a “train” and taking guests through the beginning of the US involvement as the Arsenal of Democracy through the end of the war in both theaters. You also get a “dog tag” card that lets you follow a soldier’s personal story and collect artifact info you can look at once you get home. The exhibits are very immersive and there is a ton of artifacts to look at and read about.

  • 5/5 edouard g. 2 years ago on Google
Ecellent display of objects, with videos spaced regularly. The planes are the best part, they hang in a large hall, and you can see them from below or above. Next challenge would be to get visitors inside... That would be incredible.

  • 5/5 Brian J. M. 2 years ago on Google
An absolute must-see. As good as anything in Washington, which is saying something. Looking at almost all aspects of the largest, most devastating, most complicated conflict in human history takes some doing, and this place does it incredibly well. Be sure to get a map: it’s much bigger than you think upon arrival. We stumbled upon an entire wing that we hadn’t realized was there. Also, you are required (by me, not the museum) to do the 4D movie experience. Narrated by Tom Hanks, major Hollywood actors reading letters of real people in the conflict, real smoke during some battle scenes, snow falling from the ceiling during the Siege of Bastogne: it’s an overwhelming and epic telling of the entire war.

Excellent museum focused on Pearl Harbour and D-day mainly but also goes through the story in Russia and Europe. The displays are great! Multidimensional and engaging exhibitions that pull you into the history. Definitely get the 4D movie ticket, but watch it at the end of the tour. It covers broadly and many of the mini series running in the normal exhibition feel a bit redundant if you do it the wrong way round. You easily spend a day if you like to get into things without rushing. Highly recommended!

A great museum for history buffs. Thoroughly planned exhibits, informational videos, so much captivating memorabilia from the actual war. They show the weapons and a lot of propaganda from both the US and Japan. Give yourself a couple of hours to visit as there is a TON to see, read, and spaces to walk through. Definitely a must see in New Orleans, a nice break from the humidity too! There was a special exhibit on Pearl Harbor that was really interesting. They accept students IDs for grad students admission is $16 vs $29 for an adult.

This is a great WWII museum. I have visited it several times over the years and it is always pleasant. I recently went to several WWII museums and sites in Europe, so I decided to revisit the museum to refresh, but also compare. This museum covers in depth everything about the war and shows a lot of information similar to other museums of this type. As too be expected many of the items were American, but a nice variety of others. This museum is very enjoyable for all ages. Also the interactive dog tag feature is great to add a little keep sake to remember. The museum has a great balance between immersion and displaying items. This is a must stop if in New Orleans!!

Nice museum. A lot of expositions. Some renovation was going on while we were there (late July 2022) but did not really affect other expos. Good place to visit to remind what happened and learn new facts. If you are in New Orleans area definitely worth a visit. Wasn’t too crowded. We even saw 4D movie. Also recommend.

Everyone should spend a day and go through this amazing tribute to all of our heroes who gave so much in World War II so we could be free today to do what we do, say what we want to say and have all of the freedoms we have. The movie with tom Hanks narrating should be required to watch by all of our students several times during theirs academic years. The true meaning of freedom came from those that gave so much for us. The exhibits and the movies throughout were amazing. The photography exhibit shows how we were able to see and feel all of this through the eyes of these brave men and women.

Great museum! It is not the first thing I thought visiting when I was going to New Orleans, but it was definitely worth the visit. In the end, it was a great surprise!! Unfortunately, I did not have much time to spend there. It was only 3 hours. And I felt I could have stayed for the entire day. Many details about all the events that happened before and during the World War II. There are also many videos, and most of them very interesting. If you have time, I would even recommend to split your visit in two days. The museum is interactive and time goes very quickly. If I am not mistaken, there are five buildings. And I only had time to see one and a half in three hours. And that's because I had to speed it up in some parts. I can say I was able to learn a lot about the second World War and I would like to return to the museum when I am back in New Orleans to finish seeing it. Location of the museum is also good. It is about 20min walking from French Quarter, so you don't have to worry about driving. And it probably has a cable car that passes close to it. Having time in New Orleans, I highly recommend to include this museum in your to do list!

Fantastic museum.  The "Beyond All Borders" film is a fascinating & exciting unique full multi-media (with full-sized replica props) & audience engaged event that I encourage everyone to see.  Great gift shops & restaurants.  The staff is very knowledgeable & courteous.  Finally, the American Sector restaurant is a great place for a meal.  The museum parking facility is across the street & around the corner, however, there is a public parking lot directly next door.

Amazing! If you have any interest in WWII or the military in general this is a must. I think everyone should go here regardless, but if you have an interest you will not be disappointed. Do me a favor, do yourself a favor, just go. And see the movie!!! Definitely worth it, especially if you are not as familiar with this history. We spent over 7 hours there and didn't see half of it. Will be coming back to New Orleans primarily for this.

One of the best museums for the American theaters of the Second World War. Period. This museum is beautifully executed, with expansion in the making as of writing. They are intending to expand continuously as money permits, and it is a wonderful 2+ day trip.

  • 5/5 Brandon I. 8 months ago on Google
There's no way to describe this place in a small paragraph. At least a full day and a half is recommended if you want to take your time and experience everything the museum has to offer. There's history everywhere, on the walls, on the screens, and the 'dog tag' digital experience while you're there is fascinating. As a family visit, the only things I believe you could skip might be the USS Tang experience (it's not immersive enough for teens and adults and too loud and overwhelming for 10 and under) and the Beyond All Boundaries movie which can be entertaining for adults with the 4D experience but it IS extremely sensory-overwhelming and NOT recommended for anyone under 10. The rest of the museum is absolutely fantastic and a must visit for all ages but the very youngest.

Good museum with many dioramas, you need 2-3 hours for visiting. At begining you got a special tag which encourage to discover exhibition - very good for kids, they can collect artifacts. There are audio and video stations. Museum of WW2 in Gdańsk (Poland) is better.

Fantastic Musuem a must do in New Orleans! I would recommend at least 1 day to visit and 3 days for avid history lovers. Make sure you purchase tickets in advance so you don't have to wait in line.

This is one of the very best museums I have visited and I have been to every Smithsonian. The exhibits are extremely well done. The gift shop is small. They have a nice 50 min movie that is worth the time. Plan on getting there early and spending the entire day. Wonderful.

Very nice place to visit. I would recommend at least 7 hours if you're going to rush through it, watch a short film, and eat. The food at the restaurant was good. If you don't like being cold bring a light sweater. We also had a stroller for the little one. This museum is a two-day visit for those who love history and want to take their time. Bring some comfortable shoes, trust me.

Outstanding experience, Disney's like exhibits, all decorated, interactive, and very detailed. You need a full day or two for it, and it is recommended that you take the time to watch and listen to all videos possible. They are very informative and interesting.

  • 4/5 Greg S. 7 months ago on Google
HUGE museum filled with the wide ranger of WWII items you'd expect but marked by a strange start in which you are all but required to secure a "dog tag" and register it to your personal e-mail in order to "unlock" one solder's story (and then after all of that to do my wife's didn't even work). Took about 2 1/2 hours to visit everything (without stopping to view the seemingly endless screens playing short form videos). Bonus was the Walt Disney Studios special exhibit (also the only area where photography isn't allowed.)

  • 5/5 Leah G. 6 months ago on Google
Do not miss this museum! But make sure you give yourself 5+ hours or better yet multiple days. This museum is huge and jam packed with information, very easy to get overwhelmed. This being a newer built museum it was very high tech and they put out all the stops to impress!

Immer wieder.

Everyone we spoke to before coming to New Orleans recommended this museum, we are glad we came. There was so much detail put into everything including the architecture of the building, the exhibits, the interactive displays, and the historic accounts from soldiers. Make sure to come early if you plan on trying to see everything because it’s a lot, I imagine it would take days if you wanted to read all the stories and see every artifact.

Amazing museum. Walks you through chronological order of events of the War divided by the Pacific and European conflicts. Overwhelming amount of information displayed in the perfect way. Only had about 3 hours. I got through the Pacific and had to speed through the European. Would recommend a whole day with lunch and the 4D movie in between the 2 conflicts. I did not make it to the Boeing hall but that would not take to long Excellent job!! I will return to see the rest.

Museum has very high production value - the themed exhibits make you feel like you were really there. The museum has great informative exhibits and is a great way to spend most of a day (its huge). Could be a little more linear (it felt like we jumped around a lot between time periods during our visit; it would be nice if you followed a more linear timeline during the visit).

  • 5/5 Alex H. 5 months ago on Google
It is impossible to overstate how amazing this museum was. From the first moments, you are already thrust into the story, as you board the train and see what it was like to leave home for the war. From there, there were hundreds of exhibits showcasing every part of the war, all the way from how it affected the home life of civilians, over to the creation and dropping of The Bomb. I can't list everything they have here, or my review would never end, and you wouldn't get to experience it yourself. They have several ticket plans, but even so, the pricing is a great deal. Staff is very informative and helpful, and this was probably the best museum experience I have ever had.

  • 5/5 Beer V. 6 months ago on Google
The National WWII Museum features several massive exhibits and thousands of artifacts from the Second World War, including weapons, uniforms, and vehicles. The impressively curated collection also includes hundreds of firsthand accounts detailing Hitlers rise to power all the way through the cataclysmic effectiveness of atomic weapons. The museum’s collections are segmented logically by the war theatre, as well as a few home front and political exhibits. One of the most unique aspects of this museum is that their impressive attention to detail doesn’t start and end with random exhibits, but the development of a fluid and captivating story throughout your entire visit. The most impressive displays in our opinion were part of the Road to Berlin exhibit. The European Theatre featured incredible footage with unique accounts from civilians, infantry and global leaders. Like most museums, the artifacts from D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and the inevitable fall of Berlin are also impressive. Unlike most museums, this exhibit also includes remarkable insights into the technical and logistical aspects of the war. As an auditor whose life is nearly 100% software driven, the manual efforts required to support the war is an incredible feat of human ingenuity. It’s something we’ve never quite seen represented in war museum before. We visited the museum right when they opened their doors, and the place was already packed! Like every non-beer related activity, be sure to buy your tickets in advance!

Really cool museum. It takes hours to see the whole place. It could take multiple days if you want to take in all the details. We bought our tickets in person at the ticket window with no wait on tuesday. It's well worth a visit.

I had no interest in coming here as history is my least favorite subject, but I was tagging along with my friend. I think the price is reasonable for how much you're getting. There was still plenty of interesting stuff to see and it was set up in a way that the information was easily attainable in many forms. There were a number of exhibits, but the entire museum is very well done. Lots to learn and be interested in, even for those who don't want to take the deep dive.

I liked how the museum was divided into different sections about specific parts of the WWII. The shows beyound boundaries and freedom theater is a must to get the full experience. Recommend to spend 2 days to get the time to see all exhibitions without stress. The only negative thing I can think of is how almost everything is described from an american perspective but I guess that doesn't come as a surprise when visiting US.
