I’ve visited Hawk Mountain several times in both fall and summer now. Both times of the year are so stunning that I cannot choose a favorite. It is $10 per adult to visit Hawk Mountain but after going once you will definitely want to return, so I recommend just getting the membership. It is only $40 for a family plus 2 guests to use unlimited times throughout the year. They keep the trails well maintained and it is spacious enough that you are not right on top of people as you enjoy nature. Plenty of parking, restrooms on site, friendly staff.

I've been hiking the Hawk Mountain trails for years. They have a variety of trails for different levels of experience. Skyline is the most technical, scenic, and fun. The other trails are great and offer some decent elevation changes as you hike in and out of the valley (river of rocks). Be sure to grab a trail map from the visitors center and create your own routes along the designated trails. Trails and grounds are very well maintained, and parking is free. Staff at the visitors center are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Different hiking trails for different fitness levels. STILL a challenge for "old" people. Very well staffed and has GORGEOUS vistas.

Great afternoon hike with amazing views. We went later in the afternoon, and the crowds were very light. We saw hawks and other small wildlife. Non members are 10.00 but it was well worth it.

Walk over rugged, jutting granite on a relatively level path for about a mile to see amazing views of the valley, go bouldering, and see birds, including hawks, riding thermals. Not for the weak-ankled. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear.

    • The north lookout loop offers good views of rolling hills and beautiful valleys. • It’s about 1.5 miles long each side. So, 3 miles for round trip. Takes 1-2 hrs. • The path is rocky and has steps, which means the difficulty level is moderate. But for active hikers, it will be an easy hike. • There’s $10 entry fee for non-members.

Outstanding trail. And the views along the way are breathtaking. North Lookout is the icing on the cake. So many opportunities to see birds of prey from there. A Hawk Mountain representative was extremely informative and helpful in identifying the different birds. Highly recommend.

Wonderful place to hike and go bird watching in the foot hills of the Appalachian Mountains with an educational Nature Center and official bird counting location. On the same road the Appalachian Trail pass just along the edge of this State Park. Great place to see the Fall Colors and experience the different seasons of the year.

Beautifully maintained trail with spectacular views of the area. Nice easy walk to the first viewing area with handicap trails. Beyond that the next viewing area is an easy walk but further up it's very rocky and not easy to get to but definitely worth the trek.

I had been wanting to go here and saw an event posted on Facebook so went to check it out. It’s about an hour and a half north of Harrisburg but it’s an easy drive. I really did not check to see what kind of trails they have prior to going or I would have timed it differently. I only had time to go up to the north outlook and back down. There are quite a few overlooks on the way up. I had on running shoes and it was fine but would have rather had my hiking shoes in because of the rocks. I did see someone hiking in flip flops and thought, ok things are about to get difficult for her but you live, you learn I suppose. There is some information displays inside the visitors center and an enclosed garden if you’re not up for hiking. You can even go up to the south overlook which wasn’t far at all. I think the north route was 2 miles round trip. I would go again and do bigger loop with more trails with the proper footwear and snacks. Btw they do have some snacks in the visitors center - Clif bars, granola bars, nuts, drinks, I want to say candy and popsicles but don’t quote me on those last two.

One of my favorite places around the area to watch the sunrise. Bunch of east and hard hikes with a lot of knowledgeable people at the learning center! You do have to pay to get in but In my opinion it’s very much worth it!

Great place to visit in the Fall for hawk migration, not as crowded during the week, only did the North Lookout trail this time and hung out at the top for a while to birdwatch. Visitor center very nice

Hiked the whole 5 miles. Took over 3 hours but loved it. Went with a friend. And had good talks along the trail. The lookouts are beautiful as well

This was an amazing experience. So many hawks flying over and incredible views. Was a shame we were a bit restricted for time! Highly recommend and if we're ever back in PA again, we'd be back.

One of the best views in the area and you are guaranteed to see birds of prey during the migration season. Going during the Fall offers a wonderful view of the changing leaves. Small entry fee but totally worth it with how nice the trail and staff are.

Really cool hikes! I didn't get to see any live raptors but the scrambling up rocks was a new experience.
