In 2010, I had the wonderful opportunity to explore Northern Laos by bicycle. I find myself daydreaming, at times, of the people, the food and the beauty of Laos...... and a BeerLao! When I learned there was a place that served Lao food in this area, I had to go. Not to be too nostalgic but sitting on the deck at Haan Lao, overlooking the pond was reminiscent of a few meals in Laos. The menu is not large but more than adequate and varied to satisfy most anyone. The quality of the food was excellent and so fresh. While there is no BeerLao, they offer a fine selection of home brew to satisfy anyones palate. Take the drive, you won't be disappointed.

We came here tonight for trivia and it was great! The trivia was a bit hard to hear but the questions were well thought out and the food was amazing. Would highly recommend!

Just back from Bound by Fate's 3rd anniversary and Beer by Candlelite dinner. We got there about 5:30 and the place was packed. Tealights were everywhere and was just a beautiful atmosphere (but hard to tell if there were any tables in the back). We did manage to find one up front, thankful for the unseasonable warmish weather as we were right by the door. Ordering seemed like it might be difficult because of how crowded the bar was but it turned out to be pretty easy to be heard (though I did have to look up what beers they had (hard to read the menu on the wall in the dim light)). Food wise, we were fascinated by the Laotian cuisine and started with spring rolls and tamarind fries. The fries had just a touch of sourness from the tamarind that paired well with either the garlic mayo or the spicy ketchup. For the main we split an order of the curry noodles with shrimp. The shrimp were large and tender, the coconut balanced out the curry in the sauce and the cabbage added nice texture. We quickly ate all of that dish. We finished the meal with an amazing sticky plum cake. The cake was warm and moist and sweet, the toffee glaze a rich and indulgent way to top of the evening. For drinks, I had flight of beers ranging from hazy IPA to a malt brown ale. The rye saison was particularly for with the curry noodles. My wife had a house-made hibiscus Laos soda with botanical gin. Sweet and definitely would be refreshing on a warmer day. The service was great, very friendly. How they knew where we were sitting after we ordered the food while standing at the bar is a mystery. The folks behind the bar did a great job of making sure no one waited too long to order or pay, keeping an eye out on all three sides. Will definitely be back.

I'm obsessed with their cauliflower wings and they have decent cocktails. Great vibe on the patio with live music & nice views of the nearby fountain. Unfortunately, they ran out of rice around 6:30 pm on a Saturday, so we didn't get a chance to try any other dishes, but this just means I'll have to return - highly recommend!

Great find! They had a nice mix of beers, and the sodas were very tasty. It all tasted like real ingredients, not artificial in any way. We also got food, it was delicious and so flavorful! We will definitely be returning!

Wow! I wasn’t sure what to expect and not much for trying new foods but I’m so glad the mood struck me and I did. We had the wings, chicken Lau’wich and stir fry noodles. Unbelievable!

This was a trek for us but glad we made it. The food was unique unlike anything we've tried before. There were plenty of veg options especially In the app section. The kids went crazy for the desserts (see the pics!) And even liked the chicken a lot (not spicy). The adult food was heavily spiced. The cauliflower was unlike any spicy cauliflower I've had as it seemed like it was raw on the inside (which was weird but the seasoning made up for it). Beer was good, plenty of choices (but doesn't beat my fav brewery).

Another post from a place I tried a couple of weeks ago - Haan Lao at Bound by Fate Brewing Company in Schuylerville. What a wonderful treat! We enjoyed trying several plates of this new-to-us food, unlike anything we had before. The small plates were perfect for sharing, not too heavy, and full of flavor. Spicy soy glazed wings that were meaty, saucy, and full of just the right amount of heat to start. We loved the Spare Ribs, but felt it was a smaller portion compared to the other plates, so I might not order them again. Next up were the Tamarind Fries, with flavoring that reminded me of salt and vinegar chip seasoning. So addicting that we devoured the whole plate. And last, the Kua Mee Stir Fried Noodles with Brisket and no bean sprouts. Oh my goodness, the brisket was so tender and the sauce flavorful and well balanced. This spot is a hidden gem and a must try, worth a drive out to Schuylerville for sure!
