Brian Head Peak, at 11,312 feet (3,448 m) high is the highest peak on the Markagunt Plateau and in Iron County in southwestern Utah. Brian Head Peak is located east of Cedar City and just north of Cedar Breaks National Monument in Dixie National Forest. The town of Brian Head at the western base of the mountain is the location of the Brian Head Ski Resort.

Brian Head Peak is very unique because you can drive to the exact top of the peak, whereas a lot of mountains you cannot do that. The high elevation can make some, including myself, very dizzy when making fast movements or standing up. Bring water it's very dry. VERY dry! Bring jackets even in the summertime because it's usually windy there at most times. The terrain is very jagged and rocky so watch the kids if they start to play. There are also some very unsafe drop offs if you have children. There's a little hut for picture taking. The drive up is a rugged dirt and gravel road. You don't need a 4x4 vehicle but be aware if you have a nice car you might not want to take it up this road. Not exactly the type of road I am going to drive my BMW up. When storms are rolling in this place really gets exciting and has some amazing photography views.

So worth the drive from Cedar or St. George. We were in town for a high school mountain bike race and did some additional exploring. The altitude is UP THERE! We were in a 4Runner but a car would have been just fine. Amazing views and photo ops.

Stunning views, top of the world, wonderfully cool temperatures. Totally worth the drive for those who appreciate nature, geology, and scenery of all sorts. Brian Head is an old eroded volcano, and there is quite a bit of volcanism in the area. Also, note the signs of glaciation just below the peak...what an incredible site high above the desserts of Utah.

Awesome peak and overlook that you can drive to. The road is a bit rocky, and is probably best for 4x4 vehicles, but our minivan made it, just have to go slow in spots and avoid some of the larger rocks and dips. Stunning views of all around at 11,300 feet! There is a small structure you can sit in and take in the views in the shade.

Cold and windy all year around- a reminder that most of the universe is very deadly for any organic form of life. Beautiful views.

Brianhead is a super neat place to ski or snowboard. Staff are friendly and there's a large variety of slopes and levels of terrain, and it is set in a very beautiful area. It's a great place to go with friends or family. The only downside is within the City of Brianhead there isn't a whole lot of other things to do, and there's only one or two places to eat. I would recommend bringing food up with you, and staying in a place that gives you means to cook food.
