I love so much about Sportsman Lodge. My husband and I have been going there for about 30 years. We love the two cabins, and often spend our October anniversary there. The new owners have planned lots of upgrades, which will enhance the place we already appreciate. We enjoy the clean, comfortable living space, the good beds, and the blissful quiet, the stars at night, and easy access to the Big Hole for fishing and hiking. We do our own cooking, and the kitchen units are well furnished. I have many pictures of us on the front porch in the Fall. Overall, a delightful spot in old Montana.

I discovered the Sportsman Lodge last year just as the new owners Ken and Bonnie were getting settled. My trips have included stays at the lodge and the RV park. Both facilities were clean and well maintained and worked great to support fishing on the Big Hole and neighboring streams. But the really great part is how friendly and welcoming Ken and Bonnie were to us. From the start we felt like old friends and knew that they were as concerned about us having a great experience as we were. A rarity these days. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend the Sportsman Lodge.

This place has the best friendly and relaxing atmosphere. You can interact with the other guests a the fire each night and share stories from the day. The cleanliness of the ground and rooms are remarkable making you feel like home. Ken and Bonnie the owners are always accommodating and asking if your stay is great or if you need anything. I would recommend this to all my friends and family to enjoy a great time. Thank you.

This place is a gem! The owners are extremely sweet and accommodating, the rooms are well kept and the scenery is gorgeous. The price is very reasonable, and you get a lot for your money. The atmosphere is quiet and charming. I’m active duty military and it was great to see that they are military friendly and fly a flag with each of the seals from every service branch. My family loved it and we can’t wait to come back. I wish we could have stayed all week.

Cool, small place in middle of no place. They have nice, clean rooms. The grounds look well taken care of, tidy, the RV area also. Great bar & restaurant on site, we had prime rib with spaghetti. Very good. We stopped here after 4 nights in Yellowstone, what a pleasant surprise. I would stay here again.

We had a great stay here over the weekend for a family reunion. The staff/owners were very friendly and accommodating. The cabins are cute and fully stocked. It was hot and some A/C would've been nice...but we made due without it. Grounds are very well kept. Thanks again! 😊

I've been staying at the Sportsman Lodge for longer than I can remember. I usually stay there for a few days in the early fall. It's a great getaway from the hustle and bustle where I live. I first discovered the Big Hole over 50 years ago and quickly fell in love with it. Though I don't fish anymore, I love just sitting by the river and gaining much-needed solitude. I've always enjoyed staying at the Sportman Lodge. It's always clean with all the cooking and eating items I need. People are always friendly. I can't wait to get back this fall.

A quaint place to stay. Cozy rooms, a huge fire pit next to an archery range. You must stop at the Hitchin post next door and grab a bite to eat amazing breakfast, lunch or dinner (or all 3!) The food is delicious! This is a great place to stop overnight for passing through or stay a while and take advantage of great local fishing & hunting. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place to eat well & rest well, this is it! It's dog friendly also!!

When I travel back to Montana from Nevada, the Sportsman Lodge is a great place to overnight and break up a long trip. The rooms are homey and comfortable and the people are friendly and accommodating. The scenery cant be matched. The grounds are clean and well kept. I always try to fit in a stop at the Sportsman's Lodge for a great nights rest, you can't match it anywhere? 👍

I’ve never had an easier check-in and check-out process than the one I had at Sportsman Lodge. The owners communicated everything I needed to know promptly, and they were incredibly helpful and friendly. The lodge and grounds are clean, charming, and well-maintained. And, of course, the location by the Big Hole is hard to beat if you’re fishing or recreating. Plus, it’s one of the most dog-friendly places to stay in all of Montana. I’d definitely stay here again!

An absolutely wonderful place to stay!!! Very relaxing. We stayed in one of the lodge rooms. We only stayed one night, but left wishing we could stay a few more. I made a mixup when booking online and all it took was a short phone call to straighten things out without any fuss or stress, which was very much appreciated. Wonderful experience all round.

Great place to stay on a Montana road trip! Check-in was easy and smooth. We had a dry camping site and we had all the space we needed. The bathroom was clean (aside from the bugs, which are inevitable in camping). The mosquitoes and gnats were gnarly, so definitely have bug spray with you. There's a restaurant a minute's walk away that was delicious and well-priced.

Beautiful scenery, cabins. Our family had a wonderful time on this trip. ❤Pet friendly. Close to fishing 😍. Lovely location to go and visit and see Montana. Clean room. Endless hot water. Nice kitchenette. Hosts were very friendly and helpful.

Been coming for years to fish. Melrose is always a treat and the Sportsman’s is a big part of that. Ken and Bonnie have really taken it up a notch since taking ownership. Looking forward to many more years to come! Clean tidy rooms, nice fire pit and the restaurant is always abuzz. Highly recommend.

Wonderful experience! We stayed overnight here while on our way to Bannack State Park and Lava Hot Springs. The booking website was easy to use, and even though the location is not far from I-15, you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere! (And yet, they have good wi-fi!) The cabins are very cute, cozy, clean, and well stocked with everything you need. If there did turn out to be anything else we needed, the staff is beyond helpful. There are many activities on-site, and a nearby restaurant, bar, and fishing store. ORV rentals are available, and your dog is welcome, too! Everything was absolutely perfect!

At the Sportsman Lodge RV park last weekend. The entire business is well situated for rooms, cabins, RV or tent spaces. Property is immaculate. Convenient laundry, restroom, shower and restaurant facilities. Full hookups in great working order. We will be back next year for at least a weekend ! Thanks Bonnie & Ken.

Amazing place. Extremely friendly staff. Cabins are clean and stocked with everything you need in the kitchen. Dog friendly with plenty of room for your pups to stretch their legs. Crackling campfire last night was special. Hitchin Post restaurant basically on-site with excellent food. We've been passing through once or twice a year for the last 5 years. Never disappoints.

Second stay. Great motel for a hunting trip. Simple and clean. Restaurant next door is great. Key code for entry, so check in any time. Owners are attentive. Walls are a little thin as it's an older motel, but it was mostly quiet. I'll return.

My wife and I were traveling from northern Idaho where we live, to Nevada and California to visit friends and family. We needed an overnight place to stay and came across the Sportsman Lodge. What a find! We stayed in one of the free standing cabins and it was absolutely perfect. Clean, quiet, quaint with a kitchen, bathroom and separate bedroom. An inviting porch to sit out and enjoy the peace, quiet and amazing views. The owners Ken and Bonnie make you feel as though you are family and are at the ready to help in any way necessary. There is also a restaurant (The Hitching Post) about 100 yards from the cabin that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner along with a full bar and a few slot machines. I believe the restaurant is also owned by the Sportsman Lodge. This convenience added to our stay. This place is an angler and hunters dream. Nice rooms, plenty of RV parking, and even tent camping areas. There is a nice fire pit with numerous chairs around it to sit and enjoy the evening. The archery range is a nice touch as well. The only issue we had was in the morning when we woke up and realized we had to leave and would not be able to enjoy another day at the Sportsman Lodge. And BTW, the check in and check out was easy, and quick. A pass code is texted to you along with your room number and you use the code to enter your room. Check out is as simple. Our stay could not have been nicer and we look forward to a return trip on our way back home. Our thanks to Bonnie and Ken.

Our stay at the Caddis cabin was so much more than we expected. The location of the cabin along the water was perfect for us fly fishermen. We drove a little ways for more fishing experiences and if we had more time would have booked a float trip. We loved eating at the Hitching Post. It was a great time and wonderful food. Ken and Bonnie are wonderful hosts, we will most definitely be back! Highly recommend for a great Montana getaway !

I stay here every summer for a couple weekends when I’m in town on a fishing trip. I’ve always tent camped here, and would like to stay in the cabins some time… they look pretty nice! For tent camping it cannot be beat. Lush grass to tent on, a clean and heated bathroom, with a hot shower! Perfect after a long day of fishing. The staff has always been welcoming and very accommodating. Also, a great little restaurant/bar and even a fly shop just a few steps away. See ya this summer for the “big bugs” hatch!

I LOVE staying at Sportsman Lodge. I have stayed there for the past 6 years so I have lots of history with the former owners and the newest owners...the tradition of excellence carriers on thank goodness! It is so nice to be able to doff and don the fishing gear, put on some normal shoes and walk a few hundred yards to a hot meal...breakfast two if it is desired (seasonal). There's a fly shop next door for a place to empty the wallet...it ALL at there! Book your stay TODAY.

We had a family reunion in Melrose and loved our stay at Sportsman Lodge. We were close to restaurants to be able to walk. Loved being in country scene. Loved having hummingbirds right outside door to watch. So relaxing and comfortable place. Definitely would stay there again.

It was very clean, cozy, welcoming, modern and accommodating. Loved the ease of automated check in. Dog friendly. They even had special bed covers that could be placed on the couch or beds to prevent pet issues. They even had Pet stain spray and cloths just in case. Never need that, but attention to detail was great. Excellent place! Will come back for sure!

My last stay at the Sportsman was the last week of October in 2020. The ownership may have been different, but I must state the importance of a motel in this location is very high. I had been camping in the high country with my wall tent when overnight 2 feet of snow fell. I felt this amount of snow was too much for me, so I packed up, but didn't want to give up on hunting, and went to the Sportsman's Lodge. Melrose is located perfectly for heading up into the mountains for hunting and there is a great eatery, the Hitching Post, and a gas station. I enjoyed having a warm, clean and inviting place to stay. So much better than a wall tent, buried in snow. I did get my chance at an elk, but flubbed up the shot and missed. To sum it up, I was very satisfied with my stay and hope I can return someday.

A fabulous place to stay if you are into fishing/hunting but the best surprise is the quiet, serene and beauty of the place. I have spent over 6 weeks there this year and selected it as a conference spot for a new Composer's forum and retreat. Hosts Ken and Bonnie are generous beyond what you would expect. It has become a gathering place for creativity and joyful spirit. A great bonus are the people you meet from everywhere who have become our friends around the fire each night. Add in the incredible scenery and backroads and you will find yourself in Spiritual Heaven. Throw in the hospitality of the rest of their family and you'll soon find your 2nd home. PS: Don't even think about floating or fishing the Big Hole River with anyone else than their son Josh.

Such a cute place to stay! My husband and I want to make our way back during the fall and when we can have more time there! The beds were comfy, feee parking, no charge for pets, the owners are extremely good with communication and any concerns you might have. They left a list of recommendations on things to do and places to eat! Would highly recommend.

My experience at the sportsman lodge and RV was excellent. The lots had full service , there were cabins, a grilling station, an archery station to practice, a place to field dress your harvested animal and they had a propane refill station. There was a large fenced off lawn that has numerous yard games or sit around the camp fire area with the provided lounge chairs and picnic tables. Bathroom and laundry facilities were very nice and clean. This place is also dog friendly and has poop stations located throughout the property. For a smaller RV campground it had all the amenities of a large RV site without the crowdedness. Watching the sun rise and set over the mountains is just another reason I would go back and stay here again

It's not the Ritz Carlton by any means but a charming and quaint place to stay in a nice town. Rooms are rustic and clean. Friendly staff. Well maintained grounds with a communal fire pit (didn't get to use it because of rain). Easy walk to nice little restaurant and a bar. Great alternative to the big chain hotels in Butte. Will definitely stay here again when passing through.

Wonderful place, hosts, amenities! what a great spot and even better are the owners of the campground. They did everything they could to make sure that we had what we needed! The campground, showers, laundry room were spotless clean. There was a great fishing shop just round the corner and all services u need for your fishing trip. Campground is surrounded by absolutely beautiful mountains and rivers! Thank u !

I'm so glad we found this adorable little piece of Heaven during our road trip. The park is super clean and cozy and the owners are very friendly and accommodating. My boys and I got in late after a long day of driving, and before we had even finished unpacking our things and set up our tents, the owner had an amazing rip-roaring fire built for us to sit at and enjoy. We ate at the restaurant the next morning. The food was incredible and again, we received phenomenal service! This is one we'll definitely visit again....but for longer than one night next time!

Sportsman's lodge was such an amazing place to stay. Hometown down to earth friendly. The coffee was good, bedding for your four legged friend, comfortable beds and plenty of wide open spaces. I highly recommend sportsman's lodge for your fishing/hunting trips, passing through stay, family reunions or good old fashioned hospitality and service. We'll definitely come back. 😁

What a lovely location! Right off the highway for easy access, not so close that the noise travels. Next to a bar/restaurant with a little gate leading to it from one section of the RV park- not so close that you can hear it (on a Friday night I heard not a peep!). Peaceful. The owners Ken and Bonnie were so extremely friendly and helpful. I had help backing up my trailer (new to the entire trailer backing-up scenario) which made my day go from stressful to calm instantly. I didn't have all my hookup tubes yet, but the rv spot had full hook ups that were very well maintained as well as a trash can in the back of the lot for each spot. Since I didn't have running water (again, my own fault for not having gear for my trailer yet) I used their restroom/shower and it was so clean and well maintained! Water was hot, and there was a little heater that kept the room perfectly warm which was such a wonderful thought! The entire experience was a 10/10 and I will always stop here on my future travels that take me this direction. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We stayed at the Sportsman on our way through the area. We loved the location and the facilities available to travelers like us. Certainly being in a central location for hunting and fishing adds to the special quality of the Sportsman. I was able to enjoy a bike ride around the area. We were treated in a very amiable manner. The cleanliness of the cabin as well as property. We are already planning our next trip through the area.

My wife and I have been coming up to the Sportsman Lodge in our trailer for years, but last year a friend and I stayed in one of their cabin. It was a great. cabins were close to restaurant and also were we get picked-up for fishing with our fishing guides. Things were clean and we had everything we needed for our stay. I highly recommend it when you don;'t have time to bring your RV up.

My wife and I have been come here for close to 20 years, both summer camping season and for hunting in the fall. This place has come to feel like home. The area is beautiful, the amenities are great. But most importantly, the owners and staff have ALWAYS gone above and beyond to ensure the stay is top notch. You would be hard pressed to find a better situation for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Terry Wilkes
