This is a great National Monument with a large area to walk around. We first looked around the nice Visitor Center and watched the movie, then walked Broad Street to the fort. There are many informational signs along the "streets" of the old town, about the different buildings that used to stand there. It was great to learn about the history of this place and we enjoyed our visit here very much.

Fort Frederica was super fun when we brought our very young son. It was super cool to bring him back as a toddler now, because he was interested in the history and asking lots of questions. He’ll remember visiting this time! You get to see ruins of houses from many years ago, the remnants of the fort, as well as some really cool canons!

This free historical park is absolutely wonder to explore. The history is fascinating to learn and liked the 22 minute movie that gave a great overview. We walked the entire area exploring and found some additional trails to walk.

Very well maintained park and full of history. Great for a get away, pleasure walk with the dogs, or a more in depth study of early Georgia history. Can't wait to return.

Since I teach Georgia History it was a treat to spend an afternoon at such an historic landmark in the state. You won’t seem much besides old foundations, but you’ll get the vision of a successful and thriving early fort in our state’s history. The historians on-site are very helpful as well.

Beautiful Park. Hard to believe the entire town no longer exists, only the street signs and remnants of foundations. Beautiful live oak trees with Spanish moss all over the grounds. Ishtar center is nice and the movie is educational.

Very interesting history of the fort and town that was erected to support the fort. We met a husband and wife team (RV volunteers) who were dressed in period attire and were educating us on how the towns folk worked to raise the food and support needed by the town and soldiers. The wife was weaving a scarf and had woven the dishcloths that were for sale in the gift shop, which we went and purchased! Her husband was dressed as a soldier even equipped with a gun!! From Wikipedia- Fort Frederica National Monument, on St. Simons Island, Georgia, preserves the archaeological remnants of a fort and town built by James Oglethorpe between 1736 and 1748 to protect the southern boundary of the British colony of Georgia from Spanish raids. About 630 British troops were stationed at the fort.

Unless you are really into American history, don't go out of your way to visit this place. There is not much left of the actual fort and nothing of the village save for the foundations. The film in the visitor center is quite good at explaining what's going on here. Don't expect (m)any hiking trails.

Very interesting place ! So far they have only discovered about 10% of the buildings and are currently and actively have archeologists discovering more homes from that time period. I would recommend going

Well managed and preserved historic property. The Staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The grounds are well maintained and preserved and lots of good information available. We got in for free in the day we visited, which is unusual for a National Park.

Beautiful park to spend with the family! I definitely recommend spending a few hours walking around seeing everything in the park and checking out the museum! If you have the National park stamp book, don’t forget to bring it to get it stamped!

One of the most significant sites in Colonia American history that shows the dedication of Oglethorpe to protect British interests. Its strategic location on the riverbend fortified it with a natural vantage point to see incoming ships. It was fascinating to see the building foundations and how these early settlers used local resources for building. I hope they fed from the plump juicy oysters before discarding the shells for their houses. The site is expansive and peppered with large oaks that weren't around during the settlement period. Very peaceful place to take a walk although it is a very open place so wear a hat.

Well kept and lots of great information about the fort and area. Pet friendly (no pets inside visitor center). We had a great time exploring and got to take our dog with us!

Nice place to stop by and learn about the history of the fort. Plenty of shady trees to walk under. Part of the site is still being excavated so it was cool go see the structure unrestored.

Very interesting! Seeing the original footprint of the homes from 1745 and reading personal information about the families that lived in the homes along with their photos was like stepping back in time.

Once again I came to a national park or in this case a national monument to come face to face with how little I know about the country I've lived in for seventh eighth years. In this case did you know that England and Spain bickered over who owned what was to be Georgia for over a hundred years? It's a forgone conclusion that neither asked the opinion of the resident native Americans. Nicely wooded peaceful Park along the banks of the Frederica River. Looks like new exhibits in the visitor center that include things for children. Gift shop is almost as large as exhibit area which gives you an insight into priorities. Exhibits out on the grounds are not new and while informative they are clearly dated. The videos appears to be more recent and while informative is a bit long for the information it tries to give us. Also on the day we watched it there was no closed captioning and as I'm more than a bit hard of hearing there were times when understanding the audio was difficult. If I'm ever in the area again I will visit the park and so should you.

Lots of history! All the plaques were very informative and the rangers were kind. We even found an artifact near the dig site that we turned into the rangers. But cool to be a part of that historic land. Make sure your kids check out the scavenger hunt and you visit the 300 year old live oak tree!!

Free National Park site. A lot of history learned that you don't learn in school. Fort a little small because of environment disasters. But still a very interesting place. Put your self back in 1736 and image what these people put themselves thru!!! Indians, disease, environment, war, existing! How many of us could do that now?
