My husband and I had the best experience here! Chris and Carlin were so helpful with getting us rentals and ski passes and after having a wonderful time skiing we decided to purchase our own skis! Chris helped us get fitted for skis, boots, poles and bindings and we couldn’t be happier! Will definitely return the next time we visit Winthrop!

Fabulous outdoor store with the extensive variety of an REI plus the friendly, helpful atmosphere of a small town business. Owner Chas was super helpful and pointed out the best dog friendly trails on their free area map. Had an issue with my purchase which they fully resolved - truly excellent customer service!

The owner gave me wonderful information on which trails to hike in the North Cascades NP. Without him I would have missed so much.

We didn't research this store, but decided to go in because we were on vacation. On the first day we visited, my partner bought a pair of rain-proof Topo. He wasn't sure that he had the right size, but Chas Savage the owner told us that he could take them home and try them on indoors and if they didn't feel right, he could bring them back. After taking the shoes back to the hotel and trying them on again indoors, my partner decide that he should try a half size larger. Carlin Thompson served him the next day and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about how shoes should fit on one's feet. It's quite a mental barrier to try shoes on that is half a size larger than what you normally wear. After careful observing my partner's feet in the new shoe size, Carlin provided insoles that helped cushion the shoes to perfect fit for my partner. As it turned out, half a size larger was the correct size for my partner and he was very glad he returned them for the correct size. Then it was my turn. Having watched Carlin's expertise at work for quite a long time, I had shoe envy and wished that I could find a nice pair of Topo as well. At the time, I was wearing a pair of Altra that was somewhat comfortable but annoying at the same time because one of my toes often touch the front of my shoes. I didn't know that my toe nail can eventually be ruined that way. Carlin kind of knew that I was not in the market but helped me anyway. She pointed to a pair of Topo she didn't expect me to like. But I decided to try it. I have never met a shoe sales person that checked my shoe size so thoroughly. Wow. For example, she removed the insole and had me standing on the insoles. The insole is supposed to be a thumb width longer than my foot. I didn't know that! Carlin really knows her products, she knows feet and walking shoes. I walked out with a pair of Topo MTN Racer 3 that were so comfortable I didn't want to take them off. I've never heard of Topo before, and now they are my top brand. We experienced first hand why it is so important that they handpick and sell top notch gear. I wish these people were in our city. They would do so well in Vancouver! I highly recommend this store. I like them so much I hope that we would visit Carlin at Cascades Outdoors again.

Highly recommend this store! Staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. Chris made a great recommendation on trail running shoes and went above and beyond. I love the Topo Mountain Racer!! Also best selection of Darn Tough socks.

We rented skis here. The owners were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and gave good recommendations for good trails for our skill level in the area. A great shop!

I love this store. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of items, every time I’m in Winthrop I try to stop by!

Update: I like the belt so much I stopped back in and bought a second belt; color black and orange to match my XC Skiing clothes. The belts expand and contract with your body movements. Original post: I stopped in to buy a belt for my ski pants. I bought a ARCADE belt in vapor navy.. Way kool looking. Staff friendly and very helpful. I will be back for other needs. Way kool shop with a good selection of goods. Free parking on street.
