One of my favorite places on Ocracoke Island. Such a cute bookstore. In addition they have jewelry, mini backpacks and fanny packs, toys, shirts, greeting cards, and other items. Make sure to stop in.

I have loved this store for decades and I hope to love it for decades more. It never fails I find at least one thing I simply can't live without. I've had one of the silly faced fish staring at me in the kitchen for at least 15 years and it makes me smile daily. I was happy to see they're still being made to this day. There are so many unique treasures here and I enjoy it each and every time I'm on the island. More than once a hectic life has made me forget a book to read on the beach and there's no shortage of things to pick up here. The owner is just a delight as well.

The perfect book store! Wonderful selection across the board. The children’s section has a wide variety of chapter books in addition to a full section of graphic novels. Made this mom of a child with dyslexia’s heart sing!

Toddler parents warned - NOT for you! I have been coming to the island since I was a baby’s and I was very excited to bring my 2 year old daughter here for the first time. We went to the kids section (where there is a great selection). My daughter found a plastic toy truck which I was going to buy so I let her play with it in the store. I went to take It back from my daughter and the owner came over grabbed the truck from us and said she would take the toy and that she was so upset that it “wasn’t going to be fresh for new children to play with” and scolded us for letting our toddler play with anything in the store. I apologized and I was going to say I’m purchasing but she was so rude to me and even my 2 year old that I decided I wasn’t going to support the store! She honestly put me in tears when we left (we were waiting to check in our house and on a 12 hour travel day as well). I have never seen anyone act that way towards a 2 year old being excited about something. Adults - great books and selection but I don’t think she likes kids.

Thank you for helping find all my books. This shop is great with lots of neat things. I am really enjoying the Ghost and Legends of the Carolina coast. I'm going to save the The Wish for home. Great place to get all the books you need

Super cute store worth visiting if you need a book or cute gift while at Ocracoke. Books To Be Red had a surprisingly large selection of a variety of books. I ended up picking up two books which I never would have noticed in a bigger city bookstore - one about an octopus and another about reading the weather. There are also a variety of cute knickknacks and gifts which you can buy. I liked a lot of the tea towels there but there were none kitschy enough (I wanted one branded Ocracoke) for me to buy.

Quaint little book store nestled away. Lots of books about the island and unique gifts. We make sure to stop every time we are on the island.

Great selection for a small store. Very good children section.
