I spent 20 years in San Diego and never new Admiral Nimitz, commander of the Pacific Fleet during WWII, was born in Fredericksburg. The National War Museum dedicated to the Pacific theater was established in his honor. It's absolutely exceptional, showcasing one of a kind genuine artifacts. This place is truly fascinating and should not be missed when visiting the Texas Hill Country. Keep in mind that there are three separate buildings a few blocks apart. At the combat zone, you'll see one of only two remaining PT boats in existence. I only wish we had more time to take it all in.

This place is amazing. You will actually feel like you are in history. The exhibits are very informative. There is no entry fee but donations are welcomed. I think they open only for weekend and 11-3 PM only. So check the schedule before you go.

The Pacific Combat Zone is part of a larger museum. This part is free. Unfortunately we were passing through and didn’t have time to visit the larger museum-we’ll need to do another time. You can spend as little as an hour or as long as many hours looking at the exhibits. It is nicely done with a war reenactment at select time. Well worth the visit.

If you're a big history buff and in town for Fredericksburg, then definitely check this place out. Lots of artifacts and untold history. Absolutely worth the small entry fee for all 3 parts of the museum.

Very cool museum. Happened a long time ago but we can never forget the sacrifices of the greatest generation.

Must see WWII reenactment show. Buy tickets online. They gave out earplugs at the show.

If you've never seen an actual flamethrower or heard life fire, here's your chance. The volunteer actors do a good job portraying the story. Get there early to get a seat in the shady section of the bleachers. Free earplugs are available. Wear them!
