During my yearly travels from Chula Vista California to Fort Wayne Indiana and back United Campground of Durango has been our regular go to stop. Last April we made reservations there for our upcoming July Excursion. Unfortunately a few days ago we needed to cancel the entire trip. I snapped my achilles tendon and will be on crutches for six months. I had to cancel all of my reservations sometimes paying a $20 cancellation fee of which I had no problems with. United was the only Campground that did not offer any kind of a refund. They only offered a credit to be used for this season only. I asked if the credit could be carried over to the following year when I would be up and about again and they said no. I would have been appreciative if they could have held the credit for the following year because I would surely have used it then. It is privately owned meaning that they had whatever options they chose. They could have easily carried my credit to the following year and kept a loyal yearly customer but chose instead to pocket $50 for the Here and Now. As a privately owned companyย  I respect their decision but find it odd that they chose to save $50 today while losing a loyal yearly customer.

This is a nice, well-maintained campground in a pretty setting. Easy access from Route 550 with good signage. Checkin was efficient. The owners are super nice and hard-working. The roads and sites are crushed stone. Roads are easy to navigate for big rigs and were watered daily during our stay. The RV sites are a good size with a picnic table. There are mature trees for shade at many sites. The tent sites are grassy and shaded, and beyond are green fields, the river, and red cliffs. Although the campground is near the highway, there is no bothersome road noise since the campground is set downhill from the road. There is a trolley that runs on a regular schedule to downtown Durango. Utilities all worked as expected. No trouble getting level. Good T-mobile signal and WiFi. The laundry was clean and well provisioned. The Durango & Silverton RR passes by a couple times a day (not at night). This is our second stay and weโ€™ll be back next year!

We came to Durango to mtn bike for a few days. Park is very well taken care of. Spaces are large. Clean bathroom, showers and laundry room. Pool is nice. Close to town (2miles) and there is a shuttle service that will pick up/drop off you to town. Definitely stay here again.

Excellent amenities: multiple bathrooms; showers; laundry; outdoor water spigots; pool; picnic tables. Close to town. Friendly staff. Easy reservations and not too crowded. I enjoyed it.

Have stayed here twice now in the past year and plan on staying again this summer. Absolutely the best campground I have stayed at. Facilities are clean and ample to handle the amount of traffic. Never had to wait for a shower. Laundry facilities on site and a short 3 minute drive and you're in town. If you are not up for driving, there is a free town shuttle with a pickup location at the entrance to the camp. Clean tent camp sites that are well spaced apart. Quiet with mature shade trees to cover your tent during the day with the calming sound of wind through the trees at night. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating and a pleasure to talk to. A truly family owned and operated business that makes you feel welcomed and at home.

A great place to camp for basing out of Durango in order to drive to Silverton in the million Dollar highway. My husband and I like to bike and we were excited to find that this place is within a mile of Oxbow Park, where you catch the Animas river bike trail. It is nice to be able to see you and hear the train go by. Otherwise this is just a gravel parking lot and you are very close to other rigs. Full hook ups!

Nice RV campground. Spaces have a decent amount of room. Many of the spaces have a tree over them. Pull in sites have the power and water at the closed end of the site so you may have an issue with water hose or electric cord length depending on the location of those items on the camper. The sewer connection is pretty much centered so it shouldn't be an issue. They have 4" connection on the sewer so make sure you have the correct adapter. Showers were clean. There are two different shower locations with separate men's and women's areas. The one on the back side of the office has 3 showers and 4 sinks but the showers are too small and have lips so they would not be wheel chair accessible. The stand alone building has the laundry and 2 showers which appear to be fully ADA compliant. The Durango Trolley stops right in front of the campground with makes the trip into town very simple. The Trolley only takes exact change or you can down load the Trolley Token app for Android or Apple and pay using it. Getting to the Durango Silverton railroad station is about 10 minute trolley ride and <5 minute walk. The train passes between the RV and Tent sections of the campground so you can see the two trains twice a day. The Animas river trail is about 1/2 mile from the camp ground. The entrance to the trail is also a river access point if you want to play in the river some. Once on the trail you can ride all the way through Durango. The Trolley can haul two bikes if needed. Staff seemed quite friendly.

Lovely campground. The Durango to Silverton train runs along the southern edge of the park, but it's not obnoxious; it's actually fun to wave at its passengers. The laundry room and showers are top notch. The staff are excellent with the exception of one grumpy, older man who (he had no identifying clothing or nametag), when I asked if he worked for the park, replied "Obviously. " Seriously? Obviously? If it had been"obvious" I would not have asked. Now he was riding a 4-wheeler. Other places I've stayed have had RV'ERS with 4-wheelers/golf carts, etc. That fact alone did not assure me he was staff. Having camped across the US for 31 years, have never had such a patronizing tone of voice or attitude from staff. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this campground.

Nice campground just on the outskirts of Durango. Nice folks to check you in. Campground sits right along the Durango narrow gauge railroad line. You can wave to people on the train. No commercial train usage so no disruption at night. Nice pool and clean laundry. Shuttle will pick you up to take you to town if you want. Clean campground and roomy sites.

WARNING. Something weird is going on at United Campground and itโ€™s off putting and scary. A bit of a warning to share, I had the weirdest experience trying to book a site in person there. I wanted a tent site and was informed because of bad things that have happened recently they are limiting tent staying. She said she wouldn't disclose what happened but just repeated that statement several times giving me a sense of dread and uneasiness. Seemed like she was warning me off. I started to leave because it seemed apparent I wasnโ€™t getting a reservation. Then as Iโ€™m walking away to leave because Iโ€™m just confused at this point, she changes the stay limit from 14 days to 7 days and I asked to make sure I understood and confirmed that guests are only allowed to stay for 7 days at a time in a single year. Read that again, guests are only allowed to stay for 7 days a year. They only want you to return annually I guess. I took it as a warning that this is not a safe place for whatever reason. As a single woman traveling alone I thought this would be a great place close to town to stay at while exploring the area. Iโ€™m so glad her behavior showed me to stay away from this place. When I left the hairs were standing up all over me and I had a pit in my stomach. The energy is very off to say the least. Not sure whatโ€™s happening there but Iโ€™m staying away and just wanted to share my experience with others. This is a completely abnormal experience to the rest of my time here in Durango. The vibes here are off.

RV and primitive camping level, shaded by huge trees, beautifully maintained, clean park. Trolley bus available to historic downtown, whitewater adventures, Walmart, hospital, etc. Dog friendly but no dog park. Views of Animas River viewable from many sites along with great mountain view. Elk and deer walk right through campground.

The bathroom shower cut off pressure during the middle of my shower (it turned back on in like 5 minutes), but everything else was wonderful. The staff were nice, and the view of the Durango & Silverton trains was AWESOME! (I got to see our own pop-up camper when we rode it!)

They charge for everything, your tow behind car costs extra as does the trailer you pull it with. Not very cooperative when u have a group putting you together. Won't reserve particular spaces. Tent policy of moving every 3 days. Wouldnt move our daughter after 2 days made her wait till the third and almost had to wait till 11am to move . Could have ruined the days plans. She was leaving the 4th day that made it frustrating. Staff has different views on policies of the campground.

Campground is well kept. Shower house was great. Right on the narrow railroad line which is fantastic. I had a vehicle failure and had to go back home and get a different one. I asked to get two more days of camping if there schedule would allow. They worked it out and i do appreciate it very much. Only negative i would ding them on is this. The locks on the shower house are a pain in the butt. You need a light to see them and the locks are in my opinion junk. I fought with one the other night for about 5 minutes. (Replace the locks.) Likely will be back.

They pack you in. This is a parking spot and a plug. Clean bathrooms. On the train tracks. No access to the river. Seems like they could make more space. Tent spots were plentiful. And lots of shade. But not over the pool. Customer service was short but fine. Not a warm welcome. Not many other choices in Durango and I guess they know that.

Our campsite was the first one on the right as you come in. We experienced so much dust and dirt constantly as this was the entrance. ZERO privacy. Our site was used by everyone as the cut across to the showers/restrooms. Little kids riding their bikes thru as well as adults walking thru, right next to our tent door and picnic table. This spot needs a little fence around it or not used at all. We paid the same amount as all other campers. Horrible experience. To the owners: Please don't respond. Your responses are childish.

For several years now we have been coming to this camp ground. Never had any problems. We have always called for Reservations and never had a problem until this July(2023). We made reservations for 4 nights and we were aware of the policy that after 3 days you will need to move your tent to help protect the grass. In the past it was just move the tent a few feet to let the grass rest. On our last visit we had made reservations for 4 nights, on our last day we were told that we had to completly move our tent/camp to a different site. So we did as we were asked, packed up all our camp, and moved to a new location. We were told it was so they could water the area where we were at. When we returned later that day in the exact spot that we moved from there was a tent set up. Needless to say we were very upset as it was a hassel to pack all our gear and move when we could have just moved our tent to a different position at the same spot for ONE more night only and pack up and leave the next morning. We have been loyal customers never complaining or causing any problems while we have camped there, but this time the experience was very different and it is very obvious that they are not worried about loyalty but making money, but not investing that money in any improvements to the bath houses or laundry etc as there were several things that needed attention. So if you are just wanting a place to camp for one night, it is an acceptable place, but don't expect common courtesy of allowing you to stay at one camp site if you are staying longer. Also while we were there Our son came to visit us, he was spoken to very rudely as he was not a registered guest and wasn't allowed to proceed to our campsite without checking in with the office. He was not aware that he needed to do so, as we forgot to inform him, but still did not warrant the way it was handled. Needless to say, after this last experience we will no longer be coming back to United Campgrounds.

Stopped in here to tent camp on our way to the Weminuche wilderness to backpack for a few days. This place is beautiful! The tent camping sites are at the back of the property under a canopy of trees, with soft grass (that is irrigated to keep it lush) to sleep on. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. There is a heated pool as well. The only negative (maybe) is that the Durango/Silverton train runs right through the middle of camp! Thankfully it only runs daytime so it shouldnโ€™t interrupt any nighttime sleeping. Highly recommended!

We have a trailer. The first time we were staying at a campground. Lovely spot with shaded trees, clean bathrooms, showers, a heated pool, and friendly people at camp. Trolley right in front of the main office. Easy bike path to Durango. The train passes by the camp, which we don't mind. The view to animas river, cows and the mountains is beautiful.

Great campgrounds. Accommodated our odd check-in/out times. Clean facilities. What more can you ask for? Would park our RV there again.

Now this is a fun campground. Next to the train track. Get to wave at the stream powered train and folks going from Durango to Silverton. Small clean sites with water, power and sewer. Was here in October

Campground is well kept. Bathrooms are clean. Itโ€™s close to town with a shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off at the entrance to the campground. I would stay here again.

Friendly people but wifi was beyond bad. T-Mobile cell service was on and off as well. Enjoyed the stay otherwise. I originally gave a 3 star rating. But it's so hard for small business these days. Bumped it to four because I know what they're going through. Good luck and I'll be back soon.

The campground is very well kept and the customer service was excellent. We enjoyed our stay and seeing the train. The camper spaces were a bit cramped but adequate.

Perfect location for a stay in Durango! Nice and clean facilities, and the trolley into Downtown is really good, so you can leave your car/rv at the Campground. The sites are a bit close to each other.
