What a great museum dedicated to the life of a fascinating Hoosier. Debs' life should be taught in history. He did so much for lower and middle class workers, including the establishment of Labor Day as a federal holiday. Our tour guide was fabulous--enthusiastic and clearly very knowledgeable about the subject. They're in the middle of some restoration work, so the second floor is a work in progress at the moment. I can't wait to go back and see it after the work is finished!

I rode from Florida to see Gene's house and it was 100% worth it. You could almost feel his essence in the house in a way.. The woman giving the tour was amazing and I was so happy to hear someone close to my age(28) who knew so much about Eugene Debs and what he stood for. I definetly learned a good deal of new things as well. All in all it was totally worth it to go.

Anyone from Terre Haute Indiana needs to visit just to appreciate this landmark. One of most unappreciated things in Terre Haute. Museum guide was excellent. Not to mention Debs is one of the most unappreciated persons in the United States.

Amazing experience and well worth a visit if you’re in Terre Haute. Allison’s tour was fascinating and she makes everything relevant to today. We spent almost two hours here but could have spent longer. You can also do a quick tour if you’re short on time. Loved everything about our visit!

Very passionate and knowledgeable tour guides. Willing to answer questions. A surprisingly high amount of original pieces. Definitely recommend this as a stop for everyone. They are working on some updated exhibits so we will definitely be checking back!

Allison is an amazing tour guide! I had a great time learning about everything that is on display here. Lots of original furniture, art dedicated to Debs, and photographs that tell Debs' story as well as his family's and others that influenced Debs. Allison's expressive story telling had me captivated onto every word. The attic mural was my favorite part. I highly recommend a visit here, and look forward to coming back here again.

The Eugene V Debs Museum exceeded my expectations in every regard. The artifacts from Eugene Debs' life are well preserved and cared for. The house itself is in amazing shape considering what it has gone through. The tour is amazing. The presentation follows Debs' life and career through 4 major themes. It helps a visitor image Debs as a whole person; as a leader in the labor movement as well as a husband, son, worker, comrade, etc. You can think you're familiar with Debs' life and work until you visit the museum. There is so much to take in that I could have stayed for almost an entire day. I will be going back. I cannot recommend touring this wonderful piece of Indiana history enough. The gift shop has some pretty amazing things too!

Please go visit Eugene V. Debs home. He had a huge impact on our country's history. A man ahead of his time. A great union leader.

A great house museum to visit! With Covid restrictions, it's by appointment only, which is understandable! On the third floor, or attic, there are some amazing murals to see! Allison was great and very well-spoken! They also have t-shirts, buttons, and some other things in their gift shop. Great place to experience some local and even national history!

How anyone could give this anything less than five stars is quite truly beyond me. Allison is an extraordinary guide; and how great John Laska's murals are, that she guides us through! I found myself astonished and proud that he was my art teacher at (then) State High across the street! I enjoyed this so much, I'm planning to return to Terre Haute sooner than originally thought, to see the continued growth of this uniquely special tribute to one of the greatest-ever Terre Hauteans.

I got a great tour from a very passionate and well-informed docent (I believe her name was Allison). More about the history of the man rather than the history of the house, it is free and worthwhile to see. The Eugene Debs was a prominent Socialist and that may bother some people as the historical narrative can border on proselytizing, but would you really rather get a tour from someone who didn't care about the man? The passion made the tour great. I recommend it. Tours can be short or up to 90 minutes. I got the full tour and am better off for it.

This museum is an Indiana treasure. There are lots of artifacts to see and enjoy. When I visited I was lucky enough to have Allison Duerk as my guide. She is a fountain of knowledge of the man and the museum. I plan to visit again to buy a souvenir baseball hat. They don't have baseball hats now but plan to have them soon. I collect baseball hats when I travel.

I took the short version of the tour and had an amazing experience. The guide was spectacular and prepared to enthusiastically answer any questions. I've loosely studied the life of Debs, but still learned a lot in the short time I was there. I highly recommend touring the museum, and will be back when I have more time for an in depth full tour

It’s a beautifully preserved piece of history with astoundingly knowledgeable yet personable staff. We had an amazing time. Be sure to flip through the all the old newsletters on the second floor.

Great place to take a tour and learn about a part of American history that is rarely discussed in the classroom.

Debs was an integral part of Indianas (and National) workers history. This is a great historic landmark dedicated to telling his and his compatriots stories. If you enjoy the smell of history, visit the Debs Museum.

Excellent tour by a very knowledgeable Allison! She made Eugene Debs real to us and almost alive again. Thank you for keeping Eugene Deb’s life and fight alive today. Now I need to figure out how to get some progressive folks in Vermilion County, Illinois here and thus help inspire them for the continuing fight for freedom & democracy. Hasta la victoria siempre!

Made me depressed. Great tour of a historic American's home. Very knowledgeable guide who obviously believes in his importance. Great mural. But 100 yrs after his death, we have a country with greater income inequality, higher % in prison, millions living paycheck to paycheck or worse, ever greater corporate profits, obscene wealth and power held by a small percentage...

    Perfect tour and history lesson

  • 5/5 Creighton K. 1 year ago on Google
Truly an unparalleled experience. Allison was the best guide that anyone could asked for, and it is obvious from the tour that everyone involved in this project cares about the subject matter very deeply. Everyone who travels through or lives in Terre Haute owes it to themselves to experience the life of Gene. I promise you'll be better for it.

I stopped in with my wife and young child. We were invited in by Allison, who gave us a tour of the house. Allison was was friendly and knowledgeable, she answered our questions and - although we didn’t get to spend as much time as we would have liked, we had a great conversation and a great experience.

Attended a presentation about the work of Eugene V Deb's through a course offered by OLLI at ISU. It was very informative.

  • 5/5 Theresa M. 1 year ago on Google
This was an amazing experience and I learned so much about Debs and his community and their work. The director Allison gave us a wonderful tour and led a great discussion with obvious enthusiasm and dedication. This history is so important to learn today when we are still struggling against the same powerful enemies. Understanding the history and the tools available to us (solidarity and organizing) will help us to finally, one day, really be free. Workers of the world, unite!

We were there after hours so didn't go inside. The walk in the back yard has a dozen plaques about heros of the American labor and socialist movements so our quick visit did not disappoint.

A must see. This museum tells a story about politics and social movements in America, through a very knowledgeable guide and a good collection of artifacts. Worth the stop!

What a wonderful museum and experience! The museum has such a great array of Debs' personal items, remnants of his role in American socialism and history writ large, and ongoing research. The director, Allison, gives a fantastic tour informed by deep knowledge and personal passion for the subject. I can't recommend the Debs Museum highly enough!

This place has lots of amazing history and artwork. Our guide was AMAZING and created a great experience.

  • 5/5 William C. 4 years ago on Google
The house itself is fairly interesting, but all of the displays and exhibits inside are what make the museum worth visiting, especially when contextualized by the extremely knowledgeable and thorough guide, Alison. Make sure to take this FREE tour if you're at all interested in the history of unions, the labor movement, and socialism in North America, and make sure to give them a few dollars at the end.
