Considering how great the Nutcracker was (the performance we watched), notching down the Opera House by a star should be taken as a sign that they need to up their game. First of all, cleanliness. When we pay $200+ for a 2-hour performance, we want the bathrooms to be clean and not reek of urine. Thank god for the masks cause otherwise it would've been worse. Second, selling food and drinks overpriced is understandable - that's how all venues make money. But at least have a place to drink it. If drinks are not allowed in the theater, what might one do buying a glass of wine 5 mins before the show starts? Why even sell it? To take wine shots? Don't get me wrong. This is a lovely place and we had a great evening. But the Opera House itself simply didn't live up to the vibe evenings with ballet is going for.

I attend the San Francisco ballet almost every season and I absolutely love this venue! I highly recommend coming here for a show to have a complete experience. The architecture is beautiful.

This was the best venue I’ve attended for a performance. It took my breath away and the architecture was out of this world. I came here to see the Nutcracker (ballet adaptation) and it was beautiful. The seats where comfortable and the atmosphere screamed theater . Definitely coming back it was a surreal experience (:

Tremendous with a wide range of seat prices. I was between choosing the wing on the orchestra level, or center in the Dress Circle, and glad I went with the elevated area (for the nutcracker). Great view, same price, maybe less acoustically optimal? Went here for the nutcracker and it was a great experience - festive decorations, everyone in the spirit, no snobbery. A glass of wine was $20, but that’s just that.

There are some incredible performances at the opera house. We saw the Nutcracker and everything was very well done. I was especially impressed by the orchestra and the passion of the conductor. You can buy drinks and snacks to enjoy during the show. It's also conveniently locating near some great restaurants.

Amazing place, especially for a ballet. Gold everything. Not a bad seat in the house.

We came Friday to see Cinderella with the SF Ballet at 8pm. The tickets are easy to get online, they have a system to generate the best seating options for the price you want to pay. I believe you can purchase parking lot tickets as well, but we did not get that since we parked elsewhere and bussed to the War Memorial. The artists’ interview is an hour before the show starts, you can come early to watch that. If you are late, they will not let you be seated so make sure you come on time. The opera house is beautiful, the staff are very nice and helpful. The bathrooms are clean and you can easily walk up the stairs to your seating or take the elevator. They offer snacks, concession items, food, and alcoholic drinks outside the seating areas. Everyone was dressed up, little girls wearing beautiful dresses, some people in silk and sequin. We dressed up and still felt underdressed. The show was 2.5 hours with two 15 minute intermission. The performance by SF Ballet was amazing, the orchestra sounded so good. This is perfect for a date night, a family night out, or maybe even a solo date. SF Ballet is renowned and I believe everyone should experience it at least once in their life.

The main bar downstairs was beautifully decorated for Christmas but service and the actual food was less marvelous. Ordéred an espresso martini and decaf coffee and drink was pre-prepared and coffee was not hot.

Went to the Elixir of Love Encounter (half opera, half party experience on 5 floors). Dancing, gambling, gelato with limoncello, a beautiful garden and mermaid grotto... It was a dream! I will be back this weekend to see the entire opera and be inviting many more friends to enjoy the encounter next season

What a special opera house! Absolutely gorgeous and you can really feel the history of the building. I saw my first opera there and feel blessed to have had that venue be the first. We had dinner before hand at the in-house restaurant, Prelude. They seemed frantic to get everyone served on time. The buffet was fairly good with a couple spectacular dishes that made it worth the $65 per person. But the design of the Opera house and especially the incredible acoustics were the unforgettable part of the evening. The only problem I found is that the seats are fairly small & packed! We felt a bit like being in coach on an airplane. So very worth it though...to have had the experience of attending a fabulous Opera in the War Memorial Opera House!

We saw Madame Butterfly in the center orchestra 3rd row. This is my 2nd Madame Butterfly. My 1st experience of this opera was several years ago and the production wasi guess traditional and close to the original production. It was grand and the sets were stunning. There was a bridge and the costumes were rich and exquisite. This 2nd current production I felt sounded much better but the sets were too minimal and I did not like that as much.

The Opera Omar was spectacular. Thr talent, the scenes, the magic that was sound. Everything. The building and interior is beautiful, definitely a landmark.

Beautiful opera house with an absolutely amazing performance of Romeo and Juliet. All of the dancers were amazing and you could tell there was dance chemistry between pairs and overall well integrated team effort in the company. Would love to come see another performance here! Only downside was that there were no bathrooms on the lobby level, and being on crutches, the slow elevators made it stressful to get to the bathroom and back during intermissions. If the breaks were maybe 5 minutes longer, it would really help! Also, additional warm lighting at picture spots would be great as opposed to the white spotlight which turned out harsh in photos.

Visited for a preview of The Elixir of Love. The inclusion of screens hung from the ceiling offering close-up views of the performers and subtitles enhanced the experience considerably. The staff were kind in helping us find our seats.

Full house on a Tuesday evening for Romeo and Juliet performance. It's a nice experience even for those who don't know music all that much. I strongly suggest getting tickets in advance and arriving early. It's a beautiful place to be appreciated without rush. Most people dress well for the occasion (kind of formal) but it isn't really a must.

The Opera House is beautiful inside and the ballet was excellent except for the people sitting a couple of rows back who just had to talk during the performance. Amazing that anyone would want to spend money to sit in the dark, talk over an orchestra and not pay any attention to the performance! LOL. We got up and moved because we wanted to enjoy SF Ballet without listening to rude people.

It is a beautiful facility next to other arts buildings next to performing arts parking garage and plenty of good dining options. We came for the ballet which was very good as well. Seating in the dress circle was good but a bit far away to see the performers faces.

Despite the incredibly tight squeeze as far as the seating is concerned, the theater is wonderful! All seats have an excellent view of the stage, which means you don't have to break the bank to have a great view of phenomenal productions of shows such as The Nutcracker Ballet, which is what my daughter and I saw this evening. Easy and inexpensive parking garage nearby and don't forget to grab a bite before or after your show at Max's Opera Cafe, which is less than 2 blocks from the opera house and right around the corner from the parking garage. As far as the tight seating, just sit with your legs together to one side or the other and you should be just fine.

This is one of the most beautiful Opera House’s I’ve been to. They have a wonderful bar and restaurant below where you can order drinks for intermission near the restrooms.

Beautiful opera house with multiple levels, balconies, friendly ushers, good angles from various spots, and close distance to BART.

Every year we go to see The Nutcracker at the SF Opera House and it never disappoints! Easy entry, wonderful, cheerful workers, plenty of snacks and drinks for kids or parents as well as adult beverages. It's a lovely building and the auditorium is gorgeous. Visit and enjoy 🙂
