This facility has a great mission and it's very interesting to visit and learn about the eagles, owls, and hawks being rehabilitated there. The staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. In a great natural setting, and even has a short hiking loop through the forest next to a small river.

Very cool place, focus on education for patrons, and saving amazing aviary creatures for rerelease if possible! Give yourself some extra time here, there is tons to see and learn. I even picked a Salmon Berry to try!

What a treat to see bald eagles and other raptors upclose. This place rehabilitates them until they are able to return to the wild. They do have a couple of residence as well. Place is small but leaves a big impact to anyone who visits it.

A must see. Sure, you've seen raptors at zoo's, but this place is different. You feel their mission to rescue some of God's creatures. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. He took the time to educate as well as showing appreciation for our desire to learn more.

It was amazing to get up close to all the eagles and owls. We learned so much about them and their rehabilitation process. We found this place almost by accident and are extremely glad we went.

A Mesmerizing Journey with Majestic Raptors at the Alaska Raptor Center Prepare to embark on a remarkable adventure into the world of magnificent raptors at the Alaska Raptor Center, a place that not only educates but also touches the depths of your heart. My recent visit to this extraordinary sanctuary left me in awe and with a profound appreciation for these awe-inspiring creatures. The Alaska Raptor Center is not your average wildlife facility. It goes beyond simply showcasing these majestic birds; it serves as a haven for injured and orphaned raptors, providing them with the care, rehabilitation, and support they need to heal and thrive. The dedication and compassion exhibited by the staff and volunteers are truly commendable. From the moment you step foot onto the grounds, you are greeted with a sense of tranquility and natural beauty. The center's serene setting, nestled amidst the picturesque Alaskan wilderness, creates the perfect backdrop for this enlightening experience. As you explore the center's various exhibits and enclosures, you can't help but feel a deep connection with these incredible creatures. The educational aspect of the Alaska Raptor Center is exceptional. Knowledgeable guides provide insightful information about the different raptor species found in Alaska and the challenges they face in the wild. The center's commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship is evident in every presentation and interaction. What truly sets the Alaska Raptor Center apart is the opportunity to get up close and personal with these magnificent birds. The center houses a variety of raptors, including bald eagles, owls, and falcons, each with their own captivating story. Witnessing these birds in their habitats, seeing their grace and power up close, is an experience that tugs at the heartstrings and leaves a lasting impression. Furthermore, the Alaska Raptor Center's mission extends beyond education and rehabilitation. Their dedication to conservation and the preservation of these incredible species is evident in their outreach programs, research initiatives, and efforts to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our natural heritage. By visiting and supporting this organization, you are contributing to a cause that has a tangible impact on raptor populations and their ecosystems. I strongly encourage everyone to visit the Alaska Raptor Center and become a part of their noble mission. Witnessing the awe-inspiring beauty of these raptors, learning about their struggles and triumphs, and supporting their rehabilitation efforts is an experience that will stay with you long after you leave. Consider making a donation or becoming a volunteer to contribute to the valuable work they do. The Alaska Raptor Center is a testament to the indomitable spirit of these birds and the dedication of the individuals who work tirelessly to ensure their well-being. It is a place where education meets compassion, and where the bond between humans and nature is nurtured. Don't miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in this extraordinary world of raptors—it's an experience that will touch your soul. Note: Please visit the Alaska Raptor Center's website for current information on visiting hours, admission fees, and donation opportunities.

It was great to see the bald eagles and other raptors up close. They start with a video showing you how they operate and help the animals, then you get to go in and see the rehabilitating eagles through one way glass, so they do not know that you are there. Then you get to explore the outside area and see all the other raptors up close. There is also a trail nearby to hike. Admission was 15 dollars a person when we went.

Very educational about the rehabilitation of the birds of prey. It is a non profit doing wonderful things to release most birds back to their natural environment.

Great experience. Quite a few eagles to see at any given time, owls, ravens, and hawks as well (mostly during the warm season). Beautiful hike down the trail will take you to the river and the Eagle pool, then up the Freedom Trail to see the muskegs and the clearing where they release the rehabilitated raptors. 583 eagles healed and released back to the wild as of today.

Great place. We came here and the staff were very kind and informative. It is really nice to see such concerned people in this world. These people take in injured birds, help nurse them back to health, and give them a training space for flying. Those that cannot fly live in a large space with trees and a natural environment for them to live out the rest of their days. Would definitely recommend if you come to Sitka.

Beautiful non profit that helps rehabilitate injured birds that can be released back into the wild, and gives sanctuary to those that cannot. Definitely a must-see. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. The presentation they give is stellar!

Always wanted to be close to see Americas GREATEST bird, the BALD EAGLE. My experience was one I will never forget and we have even started talking about our next vacation just to volunteer at the center. They are doing amazing work rehabilitating not only eagles but other birds as well. I encourage a visit if ever in Sitka, AK.

An absolutely amazing place! Small and great. They do great work helping birds here. It wasn't too expensive to get in. My only complaint is that we walked here with our six year old and it wasn't very safe having to walk up their long muddy driveway while buses were coming and going with no walking lane.

  • 5/5 Judy M. 1 year ago on Google
This raptor center had beautiful bald eagles and a rare red-tailed hawk at the center. The staff was very informative about care, rescue, release and the center itself. Outside, there where several bald eagles that were perched so you could get great pictures up close. A very worthwhile attraction.

Great educational Center! Staff here are very personable, gave firsthand experiences of the Bald Eagles that were on site and helped us appreciate the lengths it takes to mend a bird to being released or if it must remain at the site due to permanent injury. They do a great job!

a huge highlight from my time in sitka! i walked from the cruise ship port (about 20-25 minute walk) and had a great time. it was worth it seeing the eagle and all of the birds up close! The gift shop is cute and there is a lot of knowledgeable staff here. The Sitka Raptor Center is a rehabilitation center for birds. There is a walking trail here that is really nice and would recommend walking on if you feel comfortable. A must while in Sitka!

Another great stop on our tour in Sitka. Were able to see some amazing bald eagles, ravens, owls and other birds. Loved our tour and our tour guide. Definitely a place to stop over...especially on our cruise stop in Sitka.

Raptor (bird) sanctuary where they rehabilitate hurt animals like eagles and hawks. They have a few permanent residents too including some hawks, owls, bald and golden eagles, and more. We got to meet a snowy owl as part of our tour too, which was a lot of fun. Staff are fun and knowledgeable. Parking available on site and there's a trail to walk and see the resident birds too.

Amazing place doing incredible work. Very friendly staff that will explain anything you want to know about the birds and their rehabilitation process. The flight area is an amazing addition to help get the birds back in the wild. You will not be disappointed coming here.

What amazing work they do! We were able to see several bald eagles who were recovering as well as many other birds. Seeing one so close up was a great week experience. I definitely recommend adding this excursion to your cruise.

The Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center was a real eye opening excursion we went on. They rehabilitate large birds; eagles, falcons, owls and the like that have been severely injured and nurse them back to health. For ones that can’t return to the wild, they take care of them for the rest of their life! Seeing these large majestic birds up close is a rare treat. Some of their wing spans stretch over 6 feet! They take such good care of these injured birds. I’m glad this was on our excursion list as it brings awareness of these facilities for injured birds. Each bird has its own sad story and they know each one and cater to their needs. My favorite was Qigiq (snowy owl) and Tito (Northern Saw whet owl). All the eagles were beautiful.

What a great place! All the staff and their vision is inspiring. We explored their facility and learned so much about raptors and Bald Eagles. And their efforts to rescue and rehabilitate injured birds. What a great cause! It’s not a huge place, but it’s a must see if you’re in Sitka.

  • 5/5 Hubert Pro S. 7 months ago on Google
I really like this place due to I got an opportunity to meet the eagles very close and see how big they're in reality. Normally seeing an eagle from a distance looks like a small bird but in reality it's huge! I really enjoy seeing and owls. One of the white owls reminded me of Hedwig. Also, one of the employees brought the owl to us and told us how the owl was saved. Quite an interesting tail! But its true story!

Magnificent! One of a kind center available to help eagles or any raptor in need in the USA. From surgery to rehabilitation, even teaching them to fly again, if necessary. It one visit one will never forget!

Very nice center, staff are very knowledgeable and polite. It is amazing to be that close to bald eagles and other falcons and owls. I also LOVE the nature trail they have on site. So beautiful. It does not take too long to visit the center, the trail will take you a while. Either way make sure to bring your camera and sense of discovery.

It's an amazing place to visit! I highly recommend this place to anyone! If going here from a cruise or just downtown, take the scenic route and really enjoy your time. A real upclose learning experience!

  • 5/5 Trinity L. 10 months ago on Google
Wonderful experience all around!! We started our tour a little late (not their fault at all, it was a problem with transport through the cruise line) but all employees were very accommodating in making sure we experienced each part of the facility in full, and we did in fact leave feeling satisfied and educated! They bring out a real life (and positively gigantic) bald eagle out to show you things up close and personal with the bird. The handler was very informative, kind, and answered all questions with ease and clarity. I loved the outside hiking area that housed even more birds and didn't hold back on amazing views. This place truly deserves 5++ stars! Support local, support the birds, and become a member/donate if you can!!

I recently visited the center and was blown away by the incredible work they do. The sanctuary is located in a beautiful natural setting and provides a safe haven for injured bald eagles, falcon, owls, etc. The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and passionate about their work, and it shows in the care they provide to these majestic birds. During my visit, I was able to see several bald eagles up close and learn about their behavior and habitat. The guided tour was informative and engaging, and I left with a newfound appreciation for these amazing creatures. In addition to their rehabilitation efforts, the sanctuary also works to educate the public about the importance of protecting and preserving bald eagles and their habitats. I highly recommend a visit to this sanctuary, not only for the chance to see these incredible birds in person, but also to support a worthy cause.

The visit to the Alaska Raptor Center was very interesting and inspirational. The center takes in injured raptors, heals them and for those that can no longer be released back into the wild, trains them as raptor ambassadors. My wife and I really enjoyed the tour and demonstrations.

We enjoyed our COVID-19 conscious tour of the Alaska Raptor Center in August 2020. Pricing is inline with other attractions like this we've experienced around the United States. The animal handler was knowledgeable and personable, you could tell they really loved their job. Spirit and Sitka, the bald eagles, were great ambassadors for their species. The development staff that has been working there for 11+ years was more robotic which was our least favorite part of the tour. We felt like it was an audio-tour rather than a tour with a live-person. Overall, a great hour in the Tongass.

Very interesting live raptor exhibits. The place certainly is doing great work. However it isn't very big so you only get a small dose of these amazing animals.

I wonderful rescue facility. I learned a great deal about the birds of the area. The exhibit was a bit smaller than I expected, however the quality was high and the paths to walk down past the raptor containment areas was very very lovely.

Great establishment to nurture the raptors back to health and release back to the wild. They do a great thing here, it's worth it to not only help their cause but to see these beautiful creatures up close and personal. Can walk here easily from the totem park and make an adventure out of your time in Sitka.

Unique and amazing place devoted to rehabilitation of injured raptors. Goal is to release them back into the wild. Those who cannot be released become permanent residents. Flight training center where birds learn to fly again after recovering from injury is particularly impressive. Birds that would not come near each other in the wild coexist peacefully in this closed space.

A really nice little raptor sanctuary. All the animals are rescues that they have nursed back to health but cannot fly. You will learn a lot about the area's indigenous species. They are doing good work. If you are coming from a cruise ship I suggest you just grab a cab to it. You can walk but it will eat up some of your time.
