😠 My husband and I have had two extremely disappointing experiences with Sail Sand Point, which outweighs the one great sailing lesson we did take here. We booked a private sailing lesson for two since our schedule did not fit the group sailing lessons so that we can get checked out and rent boats on... People often mention sailing,

My husband and I have had two extremely disappointing experiences with Sail Sand Point, which outweighs the one great sailing lesson we did take here. We booked a private sailing lesson for two since our schedule did not fit the group sailing lessons so that we can get checked out and rent boats on our own in the future. We had confirmed and paid a deposit on our second private lesson, but TWICE on two separate days, no instructor showed up. The admin folks didn’t know where the instructors were or when, if at all, they would show up. We wasted a significant amount of time trying to take a simple sailing class, and the experience has left us really sour on Sail Sand Point.

SSP is great. The staff have always been friendly and extremely knowledgeable, and the selection of rental dinghies is excellent. My first real sailing practice was the Hobie Wave Experience, which is a great class. I recommend taking five minutes before you show up to glance over a diagram on the different points of sail so you've got some of the terminology and geometry in your head. It's not required, but if you don't it's a lot of knowledge in a short period of time, and you won't internalize as much. I picked up the season pass and have been having a blast this summer!

One of the greatest beaches around lake Washington area. Great place for launching sailboats, rowing/kayaking. This place also has a gym. Very close to NOAA. There is a leash free park - Magnusson park close by. Plenty of activities for everyone.

The pier provides great fun for teens and up. The beach is fun for all. Several convenient options for hand launched no powered boats

Nice sunset point. Few volunteers organize boat rides during summer full moon time. You can view mount rainier on a clear day. Nice hangout place.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience setting up a private lesson for 5 on the J24. It was a last minute rental for our family coming in from Okinawa on leave from the Air Force and the dockmaster was super accommodating. This sunset lesson was incredible. Thank you to Miller for his calm demeanor. Can’t recommend enough!

I recommend this place to new and would-be sailors often. Have taken 4 lessons from here over the years and also a member. There’s no place around that you can get up and sailing for such little money. A year membership is the cost of a few fenders for your cruising sailboat. Their watercraft are in pretty good condition, staff are friendly, usually college-aged kids who all enjoy the place. Overall it’s a very positive community environment.

They have equipment and trainers, but they make it very difficult to be a customer. The number of times this summer I’ve driven all the way here only to find that I can’t use the equipment because of an event that was over but, *shrug* better luck next time, chump. Just a fun way to have your entire Saturday eaten by sitting in traffic. And it’s not like I could have called. They basically don’t answer their phone, especially if there’s an event going on.
