This is one of my most favorite places to visit on the entire Oregon Coast. The gardens are spectacular in every season, most especially Spring and Summer. The views of the Pacific and the waves crashing onto the boulders and cliffs are always worth seeing, especially as the tide is coming in and also during big storms, just make certain to prepare by wear appropriate clothing and gear or it's going to be a miserable, soggy trip home.

In 1907 Louis Simpson began building his first mansion on the bluff as a Christmas present for his wife Cassie. In 1927, six years after Cassie Simpson died, Louis and his second wife gave the Cape Arago portion of the estate to the state of Oregon. In 1942 the Simpsons sold the remainder of the estate to Oregon for the development of a public park. The rock formations in the bluff is truly unique. Shore Acres garden is worked on by volunteers, what a gift! We visited at just the right time, where we can see the light green shade of new grass and new leaves, and the Rhododendrons and Azaleas are in full bloom. There are many paths to explore, the longest one goes to Sunset Beach. It was lovely to sit in the garden. In the UK, there would be a cafeteria where we can enjoy tea and elevenses. When I first discovered Shore Acres on Google, I had no idea we'd be able to spend such a lovely time walking around and exploring. This is going on our must visit list for next time.

Shore Acres is an Oregon state park treasure. It’s a must see if you’re in the Coos Bay Area especially for gardeners or flower lovers. The best time to visit is in the late spring or summer when flowers are in bloom. It’s also worth a visit around Christmas to see the lights. There is a lot of history to the grounds and you can learn from the sign posts or the staff giving presentations. The photos of the grounds and plants speak for themselves. Outside of the gardens there is a viewing platform and a great view of the ocean.

Shore Acres has so much beauty to see! From the botanical gardens that boast beautiful roses, rhododendron bushes blooming to the sky, tulips, and all kinds of greenery (you can even have a wedding there!), to Simpson beach were you can find seashells smaller than a fingernail! Even on a cloudy day when the water is murky, it is still quite beautiful. There are many trails along the coastline to hike as well. It is $5 to park inside ($1s or $5s only, no change given) but well worth it to catch glimpse of chipmunks, deer, and even bunnies!

Wow, such an amazingly beautiful park ! Stunning views of the rock formations. Great trails to view ocean. The botanical garden is wonderful to wander and take in all the plant life. The Japanese garden area is so serene.

This is a must see experience, especially during winter months when there are decorations, lights, hot cider, cocoa. The park is amazing and the sound of the waves crashing makes it extra special.

Beautiful park with natural beauty. We drove through on our way to the viewpoint. We stopped at the gift shop that offered a wide variety of souvenirs and trinkets. The public restroom was available, but a fairly long walk from the gift shop itself. Not what one would call handicap accessible with the long walk on uneven sidewalks. Just up the road is viewpoint for watching sea lions and seals, as well as other wildlife and birds.

Can’t recommend this park enough! It’s absolutely gorgeous. I read beforehand that if you go in the winter the waves are huge, and I was not disappointed. Giant waves, plenty of places to stop and walk around to various views, and just overall wonderful experience.

Returned for King tide. Great place for photography and to shoot some videos. Dress for the wind and rain. Don't be that person who steps over the barriers. Leave your dog in the car as required. Short hining trails to the South and North. Find the two ghost trees; they make a backdrop for portraits. It was crazy to have so many people here and have the bathrooms locked. The Rangers were so helpful. Ask them questions.

An incredible place to see massive waves or wake watch. Beautiful botanical gardens too. Make sure to take the hike down the hidden beach ♥️

Been going here for years to see the Christmas lights. This year was as great as ever.

This is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The gardens are stellar and the rangers are sweet. Must see. Add to the bucket list. I couldn't pay the fee but my rousing rendition of the star spangled banner and America the beautiful won me the entry.

Just Beautiful!!! Was there for The King Tide. Would love to return in the future and see more of it. If you're in the area, stop by. You won't be disappointed.

Super easy to book online, parking was plentiful. Short walk to get to the venue itself. There are plenty of places to explore and hike. We went there specifically for the light festival which was amazing. Free hot cocoa and cider inside the historic home which you can explore. The walk wasn't bad at all once there and we saw plenty of people in wheelchairs. Service dogs are only allowed. The gift shop however was generic and expensive.

Such a beautiful experience to go to the flower gardens and then down to the tide pools. It's just such an amazing experience.

I love shore acres during Christmas time you have the beautiful lights. There are beautiful trails to hike. There is an old WWll radio station up on one of the trails.

Beautiful and well kept. We just spent some time walking around and did not use any facilities. It was a long drive in. It's a "been there done that" sort of place but nice to visit once.

I can't believe I've been in Oregon over 40 years and had never been to Shore Acres! It's beautiful and breathtaking. There's also a garden that I understand is amazing, but I'm a geology geek so the rocky coast is my jam.

If you ever get a chance this year please visit shore acres. Such a wonderful experience, so many decorations. Simply beautiful. I volunteer every year with Doric chapter #53 order of the eastern star, when it's open. There is gift shop as well to visit.

Great place to watch the waves in winter! Summer time check out the local tide pools and the gardens! The gardens are really cool

A very nice state park. I was there on a calm wave day but the views were still tremendous. The sandstone and unique geology of the this area is on full display here. Some good came out of the 1929 economic crash which forced the sale of this property to the state as this place is too special for a private residence. Numerous hiking trails leave the park from the north and south connecting with the Oregon Coast Trail. All of my hikes revealed great vistas. Once you tire of the view from above, there is a trail to Simpson beach from the back of the gardens. It is a sandy pocket beach on the south edge of the park which offers some more great views.

Until last weekend I've only ever been there during the night time for their Christmas lights. Let me just say I have been missing out. Their flower garden is lovely and the view of the ocean is to die for.

The lights are beautiful and fun. They have action lights of marine animals and other critters. I try and make it a point to go and visit for the weekend every year. I've been going for over 10 years and plan on continuing. The caretaker cottage is beautifully decorated. They offer a cookie and cider.

Beautiful view. The botanical gatden is awesome. The flowers were in bloom the first time we went. Took my brother and his family the second time and my son and his family the third time. Can never get tired of the place. If you hike down the beach it is worth it. Oh by the way, buy the taffy... it is the best I've had here in the mainland. Hawaii is still number one for me.
