Visited in the summer of 2021 with my then 2 year old. The size was great whether you are like me with a speedy toddler who wants to move from place to place or if you have the opportunity to stop and chat with the staff and soak in the educational aspect. We hope to be returning August 2022 and plan to stay longer now that my 3 year old has grown patience and loves to learn! I loved all the photo opportunities for taking photos of my daughter and of the butterflies and other critters! The staff we did interact with were kind and helpful.

loved this place!! workers were super kind and knowledgeable, they let me and my boyfriend release 2 butterflies each and hold one of the insects :o) was so surprised they had an atlas moth and luna moth! visited the butterfly house on mackinac island and this one is definitely better than the one on the island!

TLDR: stop here if you visit the area!! All ages and groups will have a good time. This is a super cool, worthy visit. It's well worth the stop. Our group was: 13 year old boy, 31 year old man, 31 year old woman. We ALL had an amazing time. Starting with the butterfly room, and the great staff there, we had butterflies "not follow the rules" and randomly land on us, as well as staff offer to let them rest on us when available. We enjoyed the selected visits, as well as the others, and removal of either at will. Onto the insects and the incredibly knowledgeable staff for that part. We all learned a lot, about a lot! We all gained a whole new appreciation for even the insects any of us didn't like. If you have a fear of spiders, there is a small cove with spiders and spider like insects, that is easily avoidable (they're all in that small area) but I would also suggest going into despite your fear (not only calming facts about the spiders, but especially the NOT spiders! I was almost mindblown!)

This was a great experience! They have a large variety of butterflies and various insects and a few amphibians as well. What made it even better was the enthusiastic owner and a number of guides who were very knowledgable and able to answer our questions/tell us very interesting facts about the animals. We even got the chance to let a leaf insect sit on our hand and met a couple of axolotls! Would highly recommend spending an hour or two here.

Awesome place! It looks small from the road, but it's big inside. Took and hour and a half to see everything. The staff were great. They not only answered our questions, but they told us things...such as scorpions glow in the dark. Nice gift shop too. I plan to go back.

GT Butterfly House & Bug Zoo is a must stop for people visiting the Traverse City area. The staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable and willing to answer any question. There are so many types of butterflies and moths there. Can't recommended going enough.

Wow!!!! This place is great!! They have a walk-in butterfly garden where you can observe so many different kinds of beautiful butterflies and they have exhibits of different bugs, tarantulas, and beetles. All of the workers are educators so you can ask questions and learn more about the insects. Highly recommend for all ages!!

July 2021 - we went here on our family vacation. The staff was wonderful, knowledgeable and helpful while we visited. My 3 daughters under 10 loved the butterflies and bugs. They got to touch a bug and that's all I heard for the rest of the day. How cool they are and scary. They have a bee hive and my daughters loved looking for the queen. Katie was very helpful when my 3 yr old threw a tantrum. She talked to her and help calm her down. Thank you Katie. Outside their is a place to buy food. Very nice place and I highly recommend you go if you have kids or not.

As family who frequents zoos and has visited zoos around the country, this is one of our favorites! While it is small, the staff is amazing! They are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. They make the whole experience a fun outing. We visit every chance we get. The gift shop is also impressive. I am always tempted to buy something. I have never seen so many bug related gifts and toys! Some of the jewelry is nice as well!

On the outside, this venue isn't big and fancy. But inside, it is fantastic! The butterfly house is beautiful with an amazing variety of enchanting butterflies flying all around you. One may even land gently on you! The bug zoo is very cool, too. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable sharing info about all the house and zoo inhabitants.

Awesome 10/10 would recommend. My 1-year-old son had fun, my 88-year-old grandma had fun, everyone loved it… even more than expected. Staff were super friendly and super knowledgeable. Will definitely go back!

Wonderfully exciting exhibit/zoo. A truly unique and worthwhile experience. So glad we happened upon it on our vacation. Also thank you for honoring our Veterans by offering a Veterans discount.

We made a last minute decision to stop at the butterfly house and we were glad we did! They host a lot of school groups, and the place was mobbed with preschoolers when we walked in, so we killed a little time and it was SO worth the wait! We loved the butterflies, appreciated the fascinating info staff members shared. A total surprise was the bug area. Absolutely amazing!

Such a great almost hole in the wall spot. Lots of butterflies and a staff that is VERY passionate about their knowledge of the animals and bugs in the exhibits. Cute little gift shop and a nice food truck is adjacent. Only down side is that the restroom is a porta potty. But it's wheelchair accessible.

This place was awesome! We stopped on a whim and it was definitely worth it. All of the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of the questions we had. They also were more than happy to take certain bugs out of enclosures and let us see them up close/touch them. The butterfly house alone is worth the stop. It was so cool to be surrounded by hundreds of butterflies. I only wish we had more time to stay.

This was such a cool experience. My wife got to let a freshly molted butterfly go. The young man in the insect and amphibian had to much information on all the critters we learned so much! We will definitely make another visit when opened back up for the season!
