Absolutely gorgeous forests and views! Lots of wildlife and beautiful plants. Trees were breathtaking. We honestly did not want to ever leave. Loved that we could ride the Orv trails. Some garbage glass and shotgun casings in rest spots thanks to ignorant people but generally speaking was very clean. So many creeks and wetlands. A true oasis of beauty and life.

I love backpacking here. Been going for 25 years. Great time. Never had an issue with the locals. Plan before because the weather tends to change. Trails are fairly marked in some areas. Other than that is well maintained.

I live in this forest on Grid. I love the amount of wildlife. Lots of deer, fox, rabbit, snapping turtles, snakes, hawks, eagles, vultures and all sorts of other birds. Great place to animal watch!

Lake Michigan @ Manistee was the BEST dispersed camping!! Very, very clean vault toilets. Flat big sites with lots of privacy between sites. There for 5 days and only had a neighbor first and last night. Beautiful beach access. Lots of trails along beach. AWESOME sunsets. Met the nicest Michigan couples.☺

It's a beautiful place to explore and be away from city life. So many trails for day hiking and backpacking. If you live in Michigan you need to visit at least once. Some trails are a lot more of a workout then others!

Stayed at the Lake Michigan at Manistee camp grounds. The camps are nice and there is a nice beach access. The host was friendly and attentive. There were unattended dogs though that barked all day long and although the host came looking for the owner I dunno if they ever crossed paths.

No matter where you camp, you are in for a treat. I chose the one closest to the road as it’s my first time camping. Lower peninsula Wilderness at its best. Campgrounds are first come first serve unless you go between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

I always try to make a trip to the Manistee River Trail at least once a year. Gorgeous views, well defined trails. ( The trail at the Red Bridge end of the loop somewhat advanced.) Spent four nights on a backpacking trip.this year and it was wonderful.

We loved this place so much, that we drove 3.5 hrs twice in 10 days. Camping in the Huron-Manistee National Forest was heaven! Situated along Lake Michigan it’s just a short walk to the sandy beach, with awesome sunset and around 5 miles hiking trails. Stayed 2 nights once doing car camping and second time doing backcountry camping beside the beach. Don’t forget to bring bug spray, if you are camping in summer, we used them often.

Amazing, beautiful and so peaceful. Lots of steep stairs but an enjoyable climb if you're relatively fit. There are landings to stop and rest if you need it. Breathtaking views

Wow! I was essentially able to drive around to find a campsite and I didn't have any trouble at all in that endeavor. There is an insane amount of space and finding adventure is no trouble at all. It's only half an hour to 45 minutes from Grand Rapids, but it certainly feels further!
