Went as a group of 5, got automatically charged for gratuity/service fee of 20% that is for parties of six or more. There is also a 6% surcharge of SF city mandate… basically getting charged 26% extra which makes no sense to me at all. Besides that, the food was good and my group had a great time there until we saw the bill.

Lovely restaurant that has a very rustic charm to it. The pizza was absolutely delicious. Found out every ingredient is meticulously chosen for great quality (imported and local). Not only was the food great our waiter was phenomenal same with the host at the front. Thanks for accommodating us. -Your friends from Toronto P.S. if you’ve been to Rome this is as authentic as it gets in SF.

Crowded, unique place. Very noisy but the food was amazing and loved that we could speak Italian to the waiters! We had dinner here before a show at the warfield and many other diners were too, and the waiters asked and knew people needed to be out by a certain time. We will definitely visit again, but maybe for lunch. Hopefully it will be quieter.

Great place! We been multiple times and every time was awesome! Great staff, all of it. Very Kind. Pizzas are so good, thin crust, bubbley, Light and dark toast. We also had the meat ball sandwich and was great too.

this place is enchanting, the decor beautiful and the food scrumptious. it’s important to know that it’s located in an extremely depressing area of san francisco, there’s lots of people around who are experiencing the worst of the city’s lack of care. but it’s worth a visit. the salads are incredible, the pinsas so great. and at the same time it is important to be aware of all the other people in the city, and think about what you could do to make it a better place for them.

The food was fresh but overall taste wasn’t so great. The pizza was burnt and didn’t really have any flavor to it besides the sauce but with a burnt crust. The desserts weren’t it as we tried the wild cherry cheesecake and the pistachio dessert which is pistachio cream and pizza crust. The restaurant was small and had to show proof of vaccination which is just extra as you’re being seated next to people anyways. The waiters were nice and attentive and prices seemed somewhat reasonable but plates are a bit small of what we could eat

Our experience at Montesacro was amazing. The atmosphere was picturesque, you really felt like you were in a little restaurant in Italy. The service was incredible - from the warm & friendly host to the bartender who helped us with a drink while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive, to our server who went above and beyond. The food was incredible - best meatballs I’ve ever had, and the pinsa was so yummy, perfectly cooked and the toppings were all delicious. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful quaint pizza restaurant in SoMa. We ordered everything our server recommended, including two unusual pizza flavors, and weren’t disappointed. One bologna appetizer and two pizzas were more than enough for two people. 4/5 only because we thought the dishes were slightly on the dry side and the wine list was a little too expensive to our taste. But I’d definitely go back!

The pizza’s here are unique and delicious. I’m usually a fan of Neapolitan style pizza, but this Pinsa style pizza they serve is now a favorite of mine. Its a bit thicker than Neapolitan, a very soft crust, but not as chewy as Neapolitan. Service was great and the inside decorating is unique. I went on a Monday night and it was pretty busy, but no wait to be seated.

One of the few places to eat pinsa. We ordered 3 pinsas, one octopus salad, charcuterie board, and meatballs between 4 people. Casal Bertone was my favorite one!

The restaurant has really eclectic decor but the food was more on the bland side. The eggplant croquettes were quite dry and doughy but it was flavorful. The octopus was tender but needed better seasoning. Also, the quantity is only enough for 1 person. I had great company and got to try different pinsas. The tuna pinsa was underwhelming. It reminded me of a bismark baguette since the tuna tasted cured and cold with some red onion. I ordered the sausage, broccolini, burrata pinsa and it tasted flat. The texture was the only thing it had going for it. The soppressata pinsa was decent. The lamb and artichoke pinsa was the best one if I were to order again. Tbh, I was expecting better food at this price point. The location is convenient if you have an event nearby but I would not go out of my way to come here.

I came here on a Saturday night with a reservation. I showed up 30 mins early at 6pm and we were able to be sat right away. Eventually it got pretty busy. The server was great, he made good suggestions and was very helpful with the menu when we had questions. The interior is beautiful, very rustic and romantic. The area of the restaurant is definitely sketchy so I would suggest getting dropped off and maybe not driving your car like I did. Luckily, I found a really good parking and the sun was still out but yeah...sketchy part of the city and it's in an alleyway. We ordered the basket of bread, a bottle of Tufaliccino wine, Montesacro pizza and the L Torta del Ghetto dessert. The bread basket came with three different types of bread, olive oil, with salt and pepper. I thought all of the bread was really tasty, and I liked the different textures and consistencies of all of them. The wine may have been mine and my friend's favorite thing from the evening. I would definitely suggest a bottle of this wine. We also got the Montesacaro pizza which was suggested by our server. The pizza was OK, I don't think I would order it again, but I thought the lamb sausages were really good and the dough was amazing. I learned I'm not big on artichokes. The dessert was also good but unfortunately I wasn't amazed. It was a little dry, but still tasty. If I ever come back I would wanna try a different dessert. Overall, I would still come back and try a few other things on the menu and maybe with more than just one other person so we can try more than just a couple of things.

Nice intimate restaurant serving pizza-like dish called Pinsa. We ordered the meatballs and the pinsa containing spicy pork sausage. Overall the food is decent, although I wish we had ordered a tomato based pinca as personal preference. Our seating was right in front of the oven so it was quite hot for the duration of the meal. The service was very good- our server was friendly and attentive. Would try this place again with a different pinsa!

Hands down my favorite pinsa/pizza place in the city :) Their Pinsa is a masterclass in flavor and texture - an impeccable blend of crispy edges and a soft, chewy center, making every bite unforgettable. The toppings are a testament to the finest produce, each one adding layers of authentic tastes that transport you straight to a Roman piazza. Freshness of the ingredients is "felt" through every bite. The restaurant's decor has a rustic charm with urban sophistication to it. A bit funky perhaps even! I won't lie, the decor is not my cup of tea, but I can see the charm in it and the effort that went into it. If you are dining in, come equipped with a sprinkle of patience for a perfect evening.

Lovely pizza joint in SF! The piñsa are amazingly delicious. Each pie is good for one person. We ordered two: one white pizza and one tomato based! One of the best pizzas I have ever tasted. The interior is also very cozy and a nice spot to bring a date, grab a beer and order a fresh pinsa. Highly recommend Montesaco and I would love to come back!!

surrounding area is sketchy so be careful getting to the restaurant, but once inside, the interesting and welcoming interior makes up for it. service is also friendly with waiters frequenting the table for water refills. food itself is good but mostly forgettable - pinsa crust and polpo were the best part. overall, not rushing to come back but enjoyed the pinsa. cavofiori: wasn’t a huge fan. cauliflower lacked some flavor and texture. polpo: some of the best octopus i’ve tried. not rubbery at all, great char and grilled flavor and the lemon acidity cut through the richness. must try. maranella pinsa: crust is top tier but thought it lacked some sauce. wasn’t too big of a fan of the broccolini but enjoyed the burrata and sausage.

Loved our meal here. Our favorites were the pesto and eggplant/red pepper pinsas, along with the cauliflower salad appetizer! Cute vintage ambiance and very warm service

Highly recommended if you can brave the area! Excellent pizza crust with innovative toppings, perfectly tender octopus to start, good wine and intimate ambience. If it weren’t for one of the sketchiest neighborhoods I’ve been to in SF, I’d probably be there every other week. Tip: get a ride there as finding car parking in the area is a nightmare. Attire casual or smart casual. Good for a first date if OK with neighborhood.

Lovely staff who took me in close to closing time even though I was very late to my reservation. I love Montesacro so much in NYC having spent many birthdays there and this was my first time trying their original SF location. Super delicious pizza, probs the best traditional Italian pizza I've had in America. You must try it.

12-8-2022 - Great experience with outstanding food. We needed a place to grab a quick dinner before a show at Golden Gate Theater and were searching for places in that neighborhood. What an amazing find! Their alley is covered with beautiful lights. You walk in to this cozy restaurant that is makes you feel that you are in Europe. Giacomo (our server) was helpful and friendly. We had.. - Grilled Mediterranean Octopus – Perfectly grilled. It is Octopus only. Next time we will order a vegetable appetizer to be served with it - Eggplant Fritters – Delicious!! - Pinsa - Tomato, Wild Mushrooms, Garlic, Calabrian Chili (with Mozzarella as an add-on) – Amazing!!! - Pinsa Al Pistachio - Heaven!!! We were stuffed by the time we ordered the dessert pinsa, but it was outstanding and I do not regret the overeating. The pistachio cream was divine. Cant wait to come back!

Tomas was the best server I've had at any restaurant! He's so passionate about the food, friendly, and ensured that my girlfriend and I had a lovely birthday celebration.
