Mr. Herbert was super welcoming and so friendly. SO nice. I love the southern hospitality. He gave me a brief history lesson and suggested a few good spots to grab seafood. The trail was also very quaint. Strange that it is the middle of a highway but it was still nice nonetheless. I enjoyed it, and recommend it for anyone who needs information about the city. It was a great introduction.

What a well done visitors center. They have more brochures than you know what to do with.

The older lady helping us was so informative and gave us some great suggestions of what we should see/experience while in Lafayette for just a few days. She was incredibly patient with our small children and treated them as if they were just as important as the adults- so glad we stopped in!

Lovely hidden gem tucked between 2 main roads. Relaxing walk across a bayou on a shady wooden bridge, while taking in the labeled flora and fauna. Inside the air conditioned center itself, are the things you'd expect and appreciate. Information, friendly people ready to help, pamphlets, and restrooms. I love finding these prideful well cared for stops.

I stopped here looking for postcards. Alas, there were no postcards for sale here. The lady working gave me a few (ugly) free ones, but they were not what I wanted. I wanted tourist postcards featuring an alligator or Spanish moss, or some other Louisiana thing. None. There were none. The lady working was nice, but kind of clueless. She told me I should go to Vermillionville (some kind of museum) to see if there were postcards there. My elderly mother really enjoyed the alligator carved from wood.

Whether your a visitor or a local take a walk around this beautiful cypress swamp. Year round beauty; Japanese magnolia's in late January early February, camellias in December thru February, azaleas in March, irises in late March early April, cypress needles aroma in the fall. A true Louisiana landscape.

I attended a memorial service at a Catholic Church and a Celebration of Life event downtown. It was a very pleasant day.

Yes, some interesting places to visit, good food. Poverty sticken, some of the worst roads and traffic we have experienced. US Federal Infrastructure trucks roaming around and yes, they are in the right place! Downtown we were accosted by a mentally ill person who threatened violence unprovoked. Don't even think about bringing your rig downtown. This is the center of Acadiana and all associated cultural things are accessable but it is a dying, rundown place with a small strip of higher end downtown to visit and we found that it was better to have a specific destination in mind than to wander around the city.

The center grounds are arranged like a Cypress swamp but set between the lanes of a busy boulevard. Once inside it is like you are not in a city. Wooden walkways over the ponds. Egrets are common. Some large Koi. Lots of turtles that want you to feed them. The walkways are old and need some maintenance but it is a wonderful place to visit.

A quick visit here for info on something quick to do and one suggestion was Lake Martin. We went there and ended up on the Champagnes Cajun Swamp Tour which was one of the highlights of my holiday. Thank you for your assistance.
