Love this place! The food is unique, interesting, fun, tasty and not as scary! The menu has a variety of different protein options and vegetarian options, It has some spicy some not spicy dishes and excellent descriptions! The wait staff is helpful and professional! The atmosphere is laid back, quiet but could also be elegant and romantic! I'm bad with remembering the names of the dish I've eaten but this time I had chicken, lentil beans, yellow rice & plantains. My friend had the fried shrimp. I also had an apple soda from Ecuador. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD! I'm not a big fan of beans but their's are special with the lentils added the texture is totally different! The chicken was super juicy! YELLOW RICE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL! I will go back! Next time I plan to start with dessert!0

Mi Patria is fantastic. I had only been once for lunch before and been wanting to go back. We both had amazing meals Arroz con pollo and Arroz con camerones with a coconut crusted plaintain desert. It was the best meal we had at a restaurant in a long time, and we dine out quite a bit. Our server was the nicest person ever. Always smiling and appreciative that we were there which was a nice touch to recent dining out experiences. Highly recommend! And fun fact they were featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.

I award 5* ratings sparingly, reserving them for those that really stand out above the others - and I believe this place deserves it. We stopped here following a search for ceviche restaurants and then seeing that this place was also in my Want to Go list. Although it took a few minutes to even be acknowledged at the front door waiting to be seated, from then on we were continually impressed. Our waitress was energetic, knowledgeable and opinionated / decisive about the food on the menu - just what I want in a restaurant server. On her recommendations, we started with a margarita and Michelada with Modelo (see picture). They use their own mix in the michelada - and while I can't claim to be an aficianado, this was the best I've had in my life (so far...). I highly recommend that you try it - spicy, light and not overly salty! For our main course (and again on the waitress'recommendation), I had the Ceviche Mixto and my wife ordered the Churrasco (see pictures). Both of them were delicious, especially with the homemade green spicy sauce that the waitress brought out to try. As good as the main course was, it got even better. For dessert or waitress suggested the Coconut Fried Banana with Ice Cream (see picture) - and I can't even begin to describe how delicious that was! A great fried coconut coating on the banana that was augmented so well with the ice cream. Lastly, with our stomachs plump full with amazing food, the waitress reminded us to come back to try other menu items...because they have so many other great flavors to try! We can't wait to return! We visited Iowa for the first time. My family is from Ecuador so when I saw Mi Patria, I had to try it. The food was fantastic. Super authentic and delicious!! The hornado was just like my grandma makes back home. Also the staff was so nice. He was the son of the owners and was very personable and friendly. I’d def recommend to anyone!

Great experience, our attendant was very professional and friendly and knowledgeable of everything in their menu. Definitely a 100 stars place. Food was amazing, salad was fresh and their house salsa OMG! We'll definitely recommend them.

The decor of the restaurant was pretty simple. The service was good. The waiter explained some of the dishes for those who were unfamiliar. The food portions were large and well prepared. The churrasco was a little tough but tasty!!

I can’t rave enough about my wonderful experience! I ordered 2 beef and 1 chicken empanadas as appetizers and they were absolutely delicious! They were much bigger than I anticipated and came with a homemade salsa. I ordered the lomo saltado and OMG hands down the best I’ve ever had. I’m from CA and have had lomo saltado before but this place is the one to beat!! Portion was great (I shared w my partner & we were both full.) Our waitress was so friendly, attentive, and welcoming and made for an even better experience. This was my first time in Des Moines and Mi Patria was the last meal I had before heading back to CA. It was such a great way to end a memorable trip. I hope to come back soon:)

I hadn't been here in over 5 years because I am not from the area and the food was just as good or in fact even better! Sara served us and she was very friendly and the service was fast. I will definitely go back when in West Des Moines and hopefully it will be sooner than 5+ years!

Yep, this place is definitely worth a second, third, and fourth visit! From the empanadas to the fried coconut banana dessert everything was amazing! The arroz con pollo had so much flavor and the mojito was the best I ever had. Highly recommend! Can't say enough about the fantastic service and food. Run, don't walk to this joint!

Amazing ceviche. Was a bit skeptical to try octopus in Iowa, but the Ceviche Mixto far exceeded any expectations. If you want something different and original- get in here.

Great portions, delicious food, great atmosphere and the staff was super friendly. I lived the salsa they had and made sure to devour all of it. It was nice to find a restaurant offering something different in town.

My boyfriend enjoyed his meal, besides the random salad. My meal had the mote, which had a flavor I didn't care for. The torta de papa didn't have flavor. The pork was okay. The rating as 2 stars is for the staff mainly. The female working is very rude. When we walked in, we waited to be greeted. We saw all people coming in just standing at the door being ignored until she wanted to get up. She didn't even greet us at the front. She just asked if it is for two from the back of the restaurant and put our menus on the table. Very unpleasant face and nasty attitude. The waiter was kind with us, but was managing several tables while the woman was talking on the phone at the bar, complaining in Spanish about her shift almost being over and that she has to return soon. During our visit, the woman complained that she asked if a table wanted something and they said no, then they wanted it, and the waiter said they're crazy. This happened literally across the restaurant, talking about a table. We were shocked. Not worth revisiting for us.

I love this place. I often used to come here for lunch when I was more local to the area and the food is always well made and flavourful and the portions huge. I practically always had leftovers, and they always re-heated extremely well. The atmosphere is usually also pretty relaxed and quiet, and the service fairly laid back. The value you get for your money here really can't be beat at many places and the parking is good too.

I absolutely love any kind of seafood and their dish called Arroz Marinero..Saylor's Rice is loaded with Shrimp, Mussels and Octopus all stirred into Yellow Rice that is made with Achiote, Garlic, Onions, Green and Red Pepper and a few secret ingredients and served with Salsa Verde and Fried Plantains. Their portion are large enough you will ask for a togo box and have plenty left for another meal. So good and so tasty

Loved this spot! Will definitely be back here to try as much as possible. The food was amazing. We started off with the plantains to start, which was amazing and I would highly recommend it. We enjoyed our main courses but wish I had something a little more flavorful instead of plain rice in my dish. The ribs were great and extremely flavorful. What really blew me away was the dessert we had! Would highly recommend having dessert here, and I might just stop back here just for the starters and dessert. The Service was great even though they were extremely busy.

We immediately sat down as soon as we came in. The place was not busy at all. We had a party of six and showed up around 530. We ordered food and it was brought out kind of fast. The food didn't have the flavor I was expecting. I think everyone in my party felt the same way.

This restaurant is fantastic!!! 10/10 service, drinks, and food! The staff is so friendly and had excellent recommendations. The Blackberry Agua Fresca with Rum & Mojito were delicious and smooth. The Llapingachos were amazing. For the main dish we ordered arroz con pollo & cotillas a la brasa. Loved the flavors. Very authentic. Not to mention the serving sizes are huge!! Ended our dinner with the Coconut fried banana with ice cream. We can’t wait to return, everything was phenomenal 😀 Thank you!!!

Friendly staff, wonderful aroma, and good food. My only complaints were the price of my 18 oz. Ecuadorian beer ($17) and the octopus in the cevich was way too chewy.

This place is a MUST stop for us when we visit Des Moines! Everything we’ve tried has been spectacular. The portions are verrrry generous and don’t forget the empanadas to start! So good!

This was on DDD but thats not why I choose to eat here. I love trying new foods, unfortunately in my experience most places I have been haven't been very helpful understanding what your ordering. Not the case here. As soon as we sat down our waitress made sure to tell us she would be back to answer any questions we had about the menu. But there website already does that. They have pictures of everything so I already new what I wanted. The service was excellent and so was the food. GREAT PLACE !!!!

Wow! My first time eating at Mi Patria and I loved it! The service was attentive but not intrusive, the food was super flavorful / delicious and came to the table in an appropriate amount of time, and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. I had the steak and fries with rice with slices of plantain. Yummy! Highly recommend!

Excellent portions, taste, and service! I told them I was in a hurry for lunch, and they whipped it up very quickly and in a to-go box. I want to come back!

Great as always. If you like meaty, cheesy goodness, you have to get the Papa Serrana for an appetizer. The Ecuadorian chicharrones that are in at are better than any bacon you'll ever eat.

👍👍 Great breakfast served all day long! I had French toast with bacon and hash browns. The bacon was top notch and I loved the crunchy potatoes! The menu has so many items I wanted t try them all plus all the good BBQ was hard to pass up and eat breakfast too. So we also had a BBQ pulled pork sandwich...
