This restaurant has been a "must eat" establishment in Akron for almost 100 years. It is still family owned and operated. I've had a great experience every time I've been here. I had forgot about this place but I've recently rediscovered it. Known for as a Croation/Serbian restaurant that also offers plenty of standard American dishes and specials. The chicken paparikash is really good and the dumplings really help make the dish. The portions are large and seem to be even bigger when you take out. My girlfriend ordered the Grilled Pleskavica spicy...grilled sausage type of dish...it tasted good but was not her favorite dish. The desserts are sooo good. I've had the strudel and they are delicious. The custard cake is worth driving out of your way for. Staff is helpful and sweet. The prices are still pretty reasonable even with today's inflation!

Good food. Reasonable prices for lunch. I had the chicken paprikash. It was tasty, with just the right amount of heat(spices). I had coke for my beverage, and apple strudel for dessert. My check was just at $15. BRING CASH-be aware that this restaurant has a SURCHARGE if you pay with a credit card. The restaurant was generally clean, but the carpet could use a little bit of scrubbing.

I was in town for work and this place was recommended, so we (3 colleagues and I) went for dinner. The meals were just okay, but the desserts were exceptional, especially the strudel. We wound up getting more strudel for carryout the next day.

The chicken paprikash was delicious, as were the other dishes we tried. It was a terrific place to gather with my Serbian family.

Great Serbian comfort foods exquisitely prepared which tastes just like Grandma made. I enjoyed the Chicken Paprikash with dumplings and my wife had the Giblets and Dumplings dinner. Just a perfect meal. Service was great. Very clean restaurant. We need to return soon! Back again today - enjoyed more chicken paprikash with dumplings!

I use to come here way back in the 70's with my Dad and Mom. Been here a couple of times since. But the food is real good and nothing I had was fried. Real home-cooked meal. Waitress was great

The strudel is addictive! I also love Turkish coffee and this is the only restaurant in Akron that I've been able to order it. I love this family owned business, it's evident that they put their hearts and souls into this restaurant. I briefly worked here years ago- they are very clean and sanitary. I think family owned businesses care more about things like that. I've heard horror stories from employees of other restaurants. Nothing like that would ever happen here with the food. Great food and service

Not good. Dirty. Rude staff and they were slow. The food was overpriced and typical. Very few interesting or ethnic dishes.

Visiting Ohio once I sat down at the New Era restaurant. I had the Grilled Cevapi, the food was great. The staff were friendly and the service was exceptional. The waitress was very kind and accommodating. I had a great experience.

Hospital food at best🤢 the meatloaf tasted like something from a can. No flavor and very dense. If you're gonna use instant mashed potatoes, there is a way to make them so they don't taste like instant mashed potatoes. At least make the effort. Don't some mashed potatoes on a plate and put gravy over it. The gravy runs off. Use your scoop, place the mashed potatoes on the plate and make a center so when you add the gravy, the mashed potatoes hold the gravy. Shingle meatloaf over mashed. Plate presentation was horrible. I judged the meal before I even tried it. I know just by looking at it, it wasn't going to be good. I'm 38 and been cooking in kitchens my whole life since the age of 16, and many from scratch kitchens. Coming from someone who truly knows, you can do better than this. And in a world that is tough for restaurants, step up your game. You have lots of competition. I get the cost aspect, but you can still produce decent tasting food with very little and not breaking the budget.

Authentic recipes. Great flavor and large portions. Under staffed as most restaurants are now. It has an atmosphere of a "mom and pop" restaurant. Will go back to try other items.

This place is a blast from the past of restaurants. The food is good the staff is friendly, but their prices, like most others post start of Covid, have increased so much, it will be a while before I go back. They do give you large portions, enough for a couple of good size meals and their chicken paprikash is fall off the bone delicious. I highly recommend this local bar/restaurant if you want a good home cooked meal.

Food is edible but needs work...the cheese dessert is dripping with sauce. It shouldn't do that...and someone new is making the dumplings... they taste like flour....& how do you make fried chicken taste so bland. I used to love the food but you lost the flavor.

My favorite restaurant in town! Not only do they have delicious homemade food but they have it at a great price point. Friendly staff!! I love the new era!

First time visit. Ordered chicken paprikash to go. Was watery with little flavor. Chicken so overcooked bones were completely separated. Home fries were equally bland. Bread was good. Strudel wasn't as it has cabbage? Looked it up and yes, Hungarian recipes allow. On a positive note everything was packaged well.

Our group had a good time but pretty much everyone gave the food a 3 out of 10. I had the meatball sub and couldn't pick it up, the roll was so mushy but very chew like it had been microwaved. The home fries were done but oily and not browned at all. It was our 1st time visiting and most definitely our last.

The food was terrific. It was just as good as leftovers. Large portions. The apple streudel was a little mucky, but had good flavor. Unhappy with credit card surcharge. I paid cash. I think this should just be rolled into the cost.

I haven't been to the New Era for many years! I used to meet my Mother for lunch there, back in the late 60's and early 70's! She worked at General Tire, just around the corner (at that time, before moving the Research Lab to Gilchrist Road). It was just as I remembered, absolutely amazing! Service, perfection, and cleanliness!

They denied me entrance because of my service animal. (The reason being I didn’t have his vest on, and customers will complain). Legally, my dog does not have to wear a vest and if you’re more worried about customers complaining then being accommodating to people with service animals then I don’t want to support your business.

amazing food. Best home cooked food around! Chicken Paprikash is a hit, highly recommend to anyone looking for some home cooked hardy comfort food!

I have good memories of this place and the food is good but the prices seem to have gone up, especially the kids meals. There was not much business in there tonight, hope that isn't always the case? Seemed different and I can't put my finger on it, server was very good.

Fish was over cooked for 15.99, chicken paprikash was bland and the sauce was like water. There home made cheese cake tasted like jello no bake cheese cake. The waitress was wonderful and the place was nice with a homey feel. But the food was not worth it

The car park is full on Thanksgiving Friday. Raucous voices from the side of the restaurant with the bar and the locals. A quite side for families with children and very helpful staff. I had my first polish food - chicken Paprikash. Tender chicken that falls off the bone with some form of pasta in a paprika based sauce.

What a great experience! The customer service was fantastic. This was my first time here and I got the paprikash, the beet salad, and two types of strudel. Everything was excellent, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved the paprikash. I'm eager to go back.
