Short Visit to Where Soul Lives After we decided to go on a day-trip to Macon, GA from Atlanta we had no idea how long that less than 100 miles drive (one way) would take us. Moreover, after getting trapped in a terrible traffic jam on I-75 we knew that the remaining time at our destination would be very limited. The reason was road/bridge construction and there was even more of that nature when we came to Macon's city limits! But after we finally made it there were numerous warm hearted people who gave us directions to Visit Macon where we met Steven Fulbright the city's Tourism Director. He introduced his "product" to us by performing a 10 minutes video (available in several foreign languages as well) on history, attractions and festivals in a theater within their very modern and stylishly arranged visitor centre. So beautiful! Steven answered all our questions and booked a tour for us at Hay House, one of America's Finest Antebellum Houses. The house is not inhabited these days but it definitely is one of the local spots "where soul lives"! Marci, a lovely House Docent, took us around and shared her knowledge with us. After this exciting experience we at PHIL'S WORLD TRAVEL will for sure recommend Macon, GA to our clients from overseas.

I was very impressed by the size and the beauty of the city. I leasurely drove around and stopped to take pictures, especially of houses. St. Joseph Catholic Church is breath taking. And there were moments when I felt as if I were in a British or Irish big town. And I was correct. Macon was basically founded by Irish immigrants!

We stopped in to just as a few questions about things they would reccomend a visitor put on their list of things to see. They were super friendly and knowledgeable. We picked up some fun Cherry Blossom Festival souvenirs and some fun places to visit. They reccomend the Hay House which did not disappoint and the Allman Brothers Band Museum the Big House which wlwas also a hit!

Not your typical welcome center. The greeter was great and recommend great places to visit and eat. There was a nice film depicting the history of Macon. Enjoyed the visit.

The first place you should stop in Macon. They have a 10 minute video which tells you most of what you need to know and the staff are excellent. Cold drinks and restrooms are available.

We went for the Cherry Blossom festival. Bought some nice planters for our porch as it was during the craft show. Did the driving trail for the cherry blossoms and that was pretty. We just love Macon.

We visited on 4/7/23 at 11 am. The front desk lady was so friendly and welcoming. She truly wanted us to have a great experience in her city. She was very knowledgeable of the city and anything she wasn't sure about, she looked up to us. I’ve been to a lot of visitor’s centers and this is one is by far the friendliest and most helpful.

Everyone we encountered from the moment we walked in to the center to the guided tour was so friendly. Nice gift shop. We did the 1-hour van vs walking tour due to a disability. Great storyteller made the tour very informative and interesting. I would only recommend getting a van with a clear top. I only got to see the bottom half of anything not on my side of the van.

What a fun place! I love going in this cute gift shop and seeing all the fun gifts they have. I particularly love their guides on things to do. I found a new place to hike here and went last weekend!!
