This is a fantastic museum, easily one of the best in the region. Especially when you consider the (free) price. There are lots of exhibits to see and read, and plenty of educational hands-on activities for the kids. Perhaps more importantly, I was legitimately moved by the fortitude of the people who walked the Oregon Trail and the Mormon Trail. People walked literally thousands of miles in search of freedom and a better life - through very harsh terrain and in only a few months. It's mind-blowing, particularly when you consider how "soft" we've become as a society. The other two trails that converged in Casper were the Pony Express and the CA Gold Rush Trail. They were also well represented. The views of Casper and the surrounding terrain were also excellent. It's a must-see attraction if you're traveling through Casper!

This is a wonderful gem of a museum. While it is smaller, it is also free. There are multiple interactive exhibits to experience while there. You can crawl into a wagon and experience a simulation of crossing a river. There is a screen at the front and the wagon actually shakes. There is a great short movie to watch on the half hour and hour. Absolutely worth watching. While I didn't have kids with me, this museum is awesome for parents with children. They have many things to touch and experience. You can also get your National Parks Passport Book stamped here even though it isn't listed on the book. This museum is part of a diff organization (Department of Interior, I believe) but still does this. (Inside at the counter to the left after entering). Great staff. Very accommodating and helpful. Well worth going to this area just to see the museum.

Historical information presented by live actors during this 4th grade field trip was very professionally designed. Great job by everyone 👏. We had 100 young kids and they were entertained for over 4 hours. None of the kids I was watching were bored. The day flew by and was very enjoyable for all. There is quite a few places to park with handicap ♿ accessible parking, and inside the museum. There is a pretty long entry ramp which will be easy going in, but a bit of a challenge coming out up the hill to the parking area. Very nice entertaining event for the whole family 👪

Love this place. Very beautiful exhibits and fun for kids too. Beautiful gift shop and items. Fun to learn about all the settler trails that converged here. Hope to see more native American exhibits in the future!

All the staff here for such an excellent job. They really go the extra mile for the people that come here. There are so many exhibits and things to do here. There are people that were dressed up as pioneers and mountain men. A shout out to Jason and all the staff who helped us out and made my Grandaughters experience very impressionable!!

Enjoyable couple of hours learning more about the trails (Oregon, California and Mormon) settles took through the Casper area. There is also an exhibit describing a battle that took place between local Indians and U.S. Army in the area. Several interactive activities both children and adults can experience. Stunning views of the valley. Volunteers were both welcoming and informative. Restroom facilities are clean. Gift shop is available.

This place is awesome. It has several interactive activities and exhibits. It is great for kids, especially on long road trips, to burn some energy and stretch your legs. They have a junior ranger program available and passport stamps. They also have a gift shop and bottle water available for purchase.

Great museum, my teenagers loved the interaction of the information. You can be quick or make it an afternoon. The staff were very informative and eager to share what they know. The grounds are beautiful and the vegetation was so pretty too look at. I was using 2 different cameras to take photos!

A nice little museum that highlights the western expansion of the US. Great for kids, but even as a lone adult I enjoyed it too. Lots of good in depth information here for adults, and lots of interactive exhibits for children as well. I’d recommend taking your time going through here, and reading though the plaques. I spent about 3 hours here reading through everything. Free stickers too!

Don't miss this fabulous interactive museum where you can learn all about what travelers headed west in the mid 1800's endured. You can experience a virtual river crossing in a covered wagon, see what it was like to pull a Mormon hand cart and more! Great history!

Had a great group visit at the National Historic Trails Museum. Starts in the Native American section and leads through the Platte River crossing of the Oregon Trail and the modern rail and oil and gas. Excellent visit. Our hosts arranged some snacks in the lounge area. We spent a little time outdoors. The museum has several great interactive exhibits include a wagon crossing the Platte River, pulling a hand cart, movie, and many artifacts. A wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history of Casper.

Very well done and makes great use of technology and interactive displays to tell the stories of the western migration. Parking is easy for an RV although a bit of a walk to the entrance. Recommend considering doing the bike path down the hill from the facility and along the river. Very nice bike ride!

My in-laws suggested this museum as part of our family vacation to see historic Latter Day Saint pioneer sites. This was by far our son’s favorite part of the vacation. Educational, interactive, thought provoking. I can’t say enough good things about this museum or its staff. They sent my 8 year old boy home with an entire grocery bag full of maps and stickers (he is in heaven) and my girls each got a really cool sticker (think hydro flask stickers) FOR FREE. We had a group of 15 in total ranging in age from 6 to 64. All of us loved our experience here. My photos are some of the written material that touched me the most. TAKE YOUR FAMILY HERE. TAKE YOURSELF HERE. We spent about 2 hours total in the museum, but could have stayed for twice as long. Well worth the stop! Also, the place is free. Completely free. Definitely amazing.

I'm traveling though casper and needed some history. It's a beautiful spot to stop and have lunch or just check out. Lots of history. Fun interactive activities to get a feel of what it was like back then.

If you are in Casper and have children especially you need to go to this museum. Even as a serious scholar of history I enjoyed the interactive exhibits and the wonderful information. Before you leave you should check out the bookstore which has an outstanding selection of books on Western history.

Really interesting presentation at the center of the building. Lots of good information around. Some fun interactive displays. The staff is wonderful, knowledgeable, and always around to answer any questions. Entry is free, but bring 2 quarters for the binoculars on the outlook deck!

Our kids love this place. There are plenty of interactive exhibits suitable for all ages and such fascinating information on the history of the area. In December they have a model train exhibit and multiple massive Christmas trees beautifully decorated. Easily one of the best free experiences you can find.
