In a town filled with hokey tourist traps, Der Daiwel says, "F*** it," and delivers a metal-driven, dive-bar experience right on Main Street, open well after all the wine bars have closed their doors to their target demographics of cougars and silver foxes. Their beer menu is extensive, and I found a healthy selection of at least 5 porters/stouts which seem to be a rarity in a place that aims to please a popular palate of light lagers and pilsners and expectational wines. There's also a dog.

Great little dive bar. Excellent break from all the tourist spots. Awesome staff. Plays metal. Has great drinks. Is dark.

If we could give 10 stars we would. My husband is from Germany and the second we stepped inside, a HUGE grin appeared on his face as his head moved to the sound of the beat (German heavy metal). Definitely not your typical tourist wine bar. You can go to plenty of those on Main St. We were only going to have "1 drink". Several beers later we kept going down memory lane as we wondered around the bar looking at memorabilia from concerts in Germany. These were authentic items. The owners decorated the bar with with their ticket stubs, posters and other items. My husband enjoyed talking to Carole about the music scene past and present. So glad we stopped here. Definitely will visit again.

Awesome bar in Fredricksbergh. Little hole in the wall that's dark and all about heavy metal. The two sisters who run the place are from Germany and are big metal fans like myself. There is metal memoriblia all over the walls and a steady stream of metal coming over the speakers. Love it can't wait to go back

As a local, this is one of my favorite places. My dog is treated like royalty. Friendly sisters from Luxembourg run it. Great beer selection, good mixed drinks. Outdoor seating is always entertaining in the evenings. You don't have to love metal to love this place, but if you do, it makes it even more awesome!

Hands down the greatest bar in America. Picture this: you’re sipping a gin and tonic or a double IPA or a whiskey drink, Metallica is playing on the sound system, and you’re sitting in the historic heart of the hill country. A neighbor walks by, Dalmatian in tow, and stops for a quick chat. Laughs abound, belly laughs, old friends — long gone. Your glass is empty, but the friendly Luxembourgish twins are happy to oblige. Another round, filled to the brim, and Pantera comes on the juke box. Perfection.

Der Daiwel has been the highlight of my wife & my vacations to Fredericksburg since 2015. We've met the owners multiple times and they're always very friendly and quick to refill your beer. We were so happy they made it through COVID and are still going strong today. In such a sleepy town as Fredericksburg it's great to have a place like Der Daiwel.

There is no food here, but this place is rare and unique. Being rock music is not as requested. The bar and staff are amazing and super friendly. And they have their own swagger and a damn good playlist

Great place - I wish I lived closer, otherwise I'd be in there all the time. The atmosphere is perfect and the people are friendly. Definitely will be going back everytime I visit Fredericksburg 🖤

Probably one of the coolest bars ever! Gothic/metal theme and the mood is just perfect! Even if that's not your vibe, it's an interesting place to stop for a break in the AC and a cold drink.

The perfect bar. Great metal music playing at all times. Friendly bartender. Drinks were awesome. Genuinely one of the best bars I’ve ever been to.

Nice little bar with a unique theme. The drinks are fairly priced for the area and the staff are friendly but more importantly not pretentious.

Wowwww!!! This is amazing!! The German was playing awful country, next door was a weak cover band, and then bam! This place! Walk in and metal! An oasis in a desert! Comfortable hole in the wall bar. I absolutely love it!

A must stop for us in Fredericksburg, super friendly staff. If you like metal music it’s one of the best dive bars you will find.

Awesome little spot to get away from the drunks. Sadly a few stumbled in but quickly left when no one would put up with their entitlement. Awesome place, awesome vibes!

This place was like my little slice of metal heaven in the “wine country” of Texas. 🖤

Loved this lil bar! Not crowded at all! Drinks are reasonable and very tasty! Husband loves the Devil's Candy drink. I had an apricot heff and A lost Boy. Both were very good! We will definitely be back.

TL;DR You heard it right: This is a proper metal bar right on Main Street. General Impressions: Owned and operated by two metalhead sisters, Der Daiwel (The Devil) is by and for true metal fans. The song selection is varied and excellent - and played at a volume that actually allows you to talk about the music without needing to shout about it. I love a good, skull crushing concert, but when I'm at a bar it's great to be immersed in, not overwhelmed by, the music that you are there to hear. This is a rarity and well appreciated. You will encounter excellent décor replete with genuine memorabilia as you should expect from true fans of true metal. ______ What to LOOK for: - Massive, non-repeating playlist of all-metal music - Occasional live band events ______ What to look OUT for: - Limited number of draft beers (but an excellent selection of bottles) - The front door: Close it behind you or suffer the wrath

Devilish, dark, metal playing, cozy bar you’d never expect on a Main Street. Fun bartender, great drinks, and music not too loud. Keep this spot alive.

Really cool metal bar. Awesome selection of beer I rarely see elsewhere. Great music. Very polite staff. Nice photos in the ladies restroom I guess. 😂

Two sister from Luxembourg own the bar and work there. They are so interesting and friendly. They have a big selection of beer and play metal. It's not too loud though 😀

Der Daiwel is an amazing bar! They have a great beer and cocktail selection as well as soft drinks and coffee. The music is fantastic if you’re a metal head,, but the catch is that they play music at a reasonable level so you can still have a conversation. Great metal ambiance and the sisters that own this bar are fantastic. Amazing hospitality, great music and awesome drinks!
