I dont think people leaving 5 star reviews have ever been to a different gym. Or maybe I'm spoiled by the wellness center in marina. But for all the members you have, you'd think you could have at least a marching set of dumbbells. The cable machine was junk too. The spin bikes were missing foot straps. And it felt dirty with the lack of keeping sanitary wipes stocked. But, the pool and basketball stuff looked good.

The facilities are great and the programs too, but the administration of these programs needs to be further developed. They seem to not have a way to communicate with people in a class, so when classes are canceled you are lucky if you heard the week before by someone else or if you constantly look at their website and they happen to post it. In addition, children registered in a class, like swimming, are not able to continue their training straight to the next level or in the same one, because they lack a system to support it. So, you have to predict in which level your kid will be 3 months ahead, if you guessed wrong you will have to wait 3 months for just a chance to register your kid in the appropriate level. But registrations are almost impossible, as many parents register for multiple levels in advance for the same kid to assure a continuity, which creates a fake demand on coursesā€¦ Mostly, I am referring to the weekend schedule, because if you have time for 11am class during the week then you might not notice this convoluted ways of offering classes. This center could benefit from some computer system update and better strategies to implement their offerings and maximize the benefits that participants could obtain if classes would allow for a continuous registration once you get in a class/group.

I have been a member for many years. The facilities are always kept very clean and modern. They frequently replace weight room and cardio equipment with high quality modern machines. The two pools, one warmer, and one for lap swimming, are really nice, and during the hours kids are allowed the two story water slide is really fun. The huge gym is used mainly for basketball, but the staff will set up badminton or volleyball nets upon request. All of the staff are very helpful and nice, including the lifeguards, custodial staff, front desk, and even management. There are times when it is very busy and some of the youth programs impact the gym and pool, but the programs are well run and very popular. There are hours when kids are not allowed, and that makes it nice for adults to get in a workout. There are times when the place is less crowded, but usually it is busy. I am not a resident of Monterey so it is not cheap to buy a year long family membership, but the convenience, availability, and great facilities keep me coming back. I am there nearly everyday and have become friends with other members and staff over the years.

Top quality equipment in a spacious and clean facility with exceptional and helpful staff. Been very impressed and pleased with the Monterey Sports Center. Staff makes or breaks a gym and the staff here is friendly and ensures rules are followed so one feels safe. The facility is very spacious with plenty of room between equipment. Wide halls allow for users to spread out and use the spaces away from others. The pool is very popular as it never ever gets warm here on the Monterey Peninsula. Two indoor pools - one with therapy temps of 92 and a larger lap pool. An adjacent sun deck is also a great place to take in the ocassional sun. Plenty of chairs with larger planters to provide privacy. The sun deck is situated to minimize the wind and maximize the sun. The gym is huge. The exercise equipment is up to date and the spaces clean. Bathrooms and showers have lockers so bring your own combo lock. Walkup tours are provided and membership prices are right in line with regional offerings.

This gym is outdated, not very clean and overpriced. I highly recommend a different gym in town.

I signed up recently and was very happy to find an entire family membership is more affordable than other gyms at two adult memberships. I was also very pleased with the staff service. Patient, kind, and very helpful! Iā€™ve enjoyed many other gyms in the area but this one is my favorite so far, and their membership comes with access to a lot of other amenities! Many gyms locally charge you the same or more, for fewer family members and are significantly smaller or lacking in variety. In all the right ways, MSC reminds me of a YMCA, and a really well maintained one at that. The equipment is good, all the way around with a lot of variety, more than you will find at most local gyms. They are also replacing a lot of equipment with brand new equipment in January 2024 and updating the weight room. Personally, Iā€™m excited to see the changes! Iā€™m also grateful for the quality and variety of things to do there, especially with my family. Iā€™d love to see more cleaning stations strategically placed to help encourage people to wipe down equipment but also make it easier for members to do so. I have seen nothing but cleanliness and am encouraged by all the people wiping down equipment after use! I do, however, feel bad for some of those with mobility challenges having to walk across the cardio room to acquire a wipe and then back just to wipe down their machine. Everything is accessible and itā€™s not that big of a walk, but I think it would be a positive quality of life improvement. All in all, awesome gym!

I used to love this gym until they changed everything. All the prices went way up and they changed all the memberships. I thought this gym was funded by the city ?

ā›ˆBAD ENERGYšŸ‘Ž ā€œI need a big cup of coffee to power through this grueling hardcore workout today!ā€ ā€˜Caffeine will make you dizzy and could cause heart palpitationsā€¦besides itā€™s really expensive do you really need It?ā€™ Many years coming here. Itā€™s been nearly a decade since I came here last. This used to be my go to get-in-shape destination. Iā€™ve been through most of the major equipment swaps. The old MSCā€™s a decade ago and 15 years prior to that were actually cutting edge facilities. If it sounds like Iā€™m complaining rest assured Iā€™m not. MSC has always reflected back best the localized community needs. Not once has MSC NOT recognized who is to be catered to and more so whoā€™s truly paying the bills. For good or ill subjectively. This more recent exercise equipment dispersement is serving the rehabilitation and geriatric populous that better represents American culture at large. There are amazing machines that are more upper body ergometer based as well as ā€˜non-intimidatingā€™ selecterized resistance equipment. The pre-inclusive safety is the key emphasis. Overall MSC never misses this service to its community at the moment. With that said there is the essence of morbidity that is a stale lingering constant reminder of the time that we are in. That isnā€™t to say that the older folks frequenting this place are not championing and overcoming their personal physiological obstacles. A better way of putting it is that the flare or spark is gone from equipment manufacture, motivation to ā€˜stack it!ā€™ and general sentiment of mission statement. As Americans we are in a bit of a drift and MSC represents the sphere of its community quite specifically. The aging populous has aged and I am only a few years removed myself. -Good equipment for demographic -More spacious facilities -Still the Teen PR YT groups effervescence It doesnā€™t beckon me towards the excitement of ā€˜the next workoutā€™ or to return but perhaps this is a large part thatā€™s now missing nationally (globally) as democracy and itā€™s economics have now come to an undeniable stupor. $61 @1 month Using an app based simple to use check-in process (Amilia). ā€œIt is what it isā€ and ā€œThe magic is goneā€ *What would make it better? Freemotion Machine Seated calf raise Lateral raise machine (shoulders) Amazing that after all this time away I both recognize and remember the current Matrix line. From my view ā€œMSC pays expensive pension salaries and neglects the community offerings standard. There obviously is no oversight committee that has the power to remedy this problemā€.

Was driving to SF and stopped by with the homie, great facilities. We used the weight room and basketball courts. They have parking all around. Forgot how much we paid but it wasnā€™t a lot. Definitely coming back here

I've been going for like 20 years. Aerobic classes, weights, Pilates. Studio 1 and 2. In Teresa's Aerobic class she kept the room freezing. I stopped cause of it, music in Zumba can be ear piercing, I wear earplugs.

First, the staff is genuinely friendly and helpful, and the facility is great. For us, the pools are best. . The warm pool is perfect for adult therapy, It has a separate area for children's swim lessons. (Effective instruction doesn't frighten children. They learn quickly and have fun in this comfortable and safe environment. They learn the right skills for their stage of physical development, plus water safety so they know how to save themselves if ever needed.) The large pool is well-built and maintained. But it has a particular type of magic not often found in lap pools. This quality may not be discernible to all, but it certainly makes swimming better for everyone. We are lucky to have this Sports Center in our community.. .

Daily use of the heated therapy pool and the saunas are worth my membership alone! Great staff, everything is clean and modern, plenty of options for classes, very accessible for us with limited mobility!

Monterey Sports Center is a gigantic open space facility, packed with well organized, clean, well maintained machines and equipment. The locker rooms are clean and arranged for optimal privacy. Great programs for kids. I do aquatic therapy and the pools and saunas fit the bill flawlessly. I homeschool, so these programs will work into our curriculum. Kid Approved.
