We were in the older building 222 so not as plush as we were led to believe. However we had requested a kitchenette unit - the main building has none. It was set for two people. A hot plate with two burners, two plates, cups, bowls, knives, forks spoons, steak knives, a pot and fry pan, spatula, big spoon, can opener, bottle opener and a small fridge. Basic, but all there clean and functional. Only one chair at the counter, plus office chair at the desk and a comfy chair for relaxation and TV watching. A queen bed and 50's solid wood furniture and two unremarkable pictures finish the decor. 14 feet high ceilings creat huge empty wall spaces that makes it feel rather utilitarian. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The on site pub seems lively and cheerfully relaxed. It's a place to meet and get something to eat as well, although we didn't have the opportunity to eat on site. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. We were on vacation so sleeping in and missing the cooked breakfasts was the norm for us. There is only one gate functioning. It's open 24 hours. Turn in is opposite 900 Sloat.

Historic. Amazing. Elegant. Beautiful. The hotel is simply amazing and worth the views. Rooms are spectacular and modernized. Definitely recommended if staying in Monterey. Reservations strongly recommended way in advance.

Newly renovated rooms bring the charm of era in which this hotel was first built into the 21st century in a tasteful and comfortable way. Only available for veterans and dependents, if you come to Monterey for business or pleasure, this hotel is a MUST. Situated in the campus of the Naval Postgraduate School, you'll be centrally located on a beautiful campus to get to wherever you need to go quickly. Breakfast and lunch are available in the Prado Room in the basement, and dinner is available in the classic and famous Trident room (also in the basement) until 2100.

Hotel Del Monte is a beautiful hotel with a rich history. Rooms are spacious. Limited vending options. Washing machines are located in both East and West wings.

We were very impressed by the Navy Gateway Inn. The hotel has been nicely renovated but still has lots of interesting history and it’s a beautiful building. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very nice, clean, and comfortable. While there is no AC, we were able to cool the rooms with the outside breeze and the ceiling fan. We would definitely recommend and come back again.

For the price; you can’t beat it and the location. One day we got in 20k+ steps in, partly trying to find our way off base...it was a bit funny and we could laugh about it once we got out. A funny comment; we saw a dear on base...how did the deer get on base? Their is a 10’ fence around the entire perimeter. Complimentary breakfast saved us a lot of money and the food is basic and good; buffet style (pictures provided). The first picture reminded me of Disneyland haunted mansion where the girls are standing in the hallway (it’s not haunted) ha ha Update: 7/24/2019; almost forgot..there is no pool (as identified), also...there is a dedicated restaurant / bar that is not described and actually has pizza 🍕, comfort food. Take advantage of this! It will save on the inflated cost out in town😀

Hotel Del Monte is located in Herrmann hall, which is inside the grounds of the Naval Postgraduate School facility, so you will need DoD ID to get there. 3.5 stars. We stayed in a standard queen room with kitchenette in May 2023. Quality and comfort is just okay, but the value is good for the price, this being Monterey. The building is obviously dated but at least there are elevators. The room had a basic kitchenette with mini fridge, sink, microwave, and electric range. It was a little annoying that the room didn’t have a dining table or couch, so there’s really no place for two people to sit and seat together, other than on the bed. The breakfast is so-so; there are pancake and waffle machines, yogurt, coffee, but no eggs or meats. The front desk staff were a little brusk, but the cleaning staff (such as Lilia) were very friendly and helpful.

Spectacular old style resort with big rooms. For as nice a place it does not have an extensive staff or room service. I found the lack of a day spa and full service restaurant to be especially annoying; however, this seems to go with the exclusive nature of the place.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Definitely worth the visit to learn about the rich history and if you can, spend a night or two. Our room had a single bedroom, large bathroom and a little kitchen. They offered continental breakfast in the morning till 9:30am and has a restaurant in the hotel as well.

This is the DelMonte hotel which was built in 1880 the hotel burned down twice and then during World War II was purchased by the US government it is a active military base so if you're in the military you can get in here and spend the night otherwise you have to be either invited or you have to have someone that's in the military bring you .Do need to bring your passport or military ID to get in .lot of history .

Best Navy Gateway in the Navy! Former historic Hotel Del Monte. We hoped we'd see a ghost but alas 3 nights here and no paranormal activity. Check out the ghost log at the front desk, and sit by the fireplace in the main hall. High ceilings in the rooms, very clean and comfortable and elegant rooms and hotel. Only 5-10 min drive away from Fishermans wharf and downtown, and a really nice running trail nearby along the coast.

The historic Hotel Del Monte is a gem on the Naval Postgraduate School campus. Close to all parts of NPS. The suite rooms are spacious for a family of 3. The included kitchenette is nice when you’re tired of paying tourist prices at restaurants. The lack of AC is frustrating considering there are other hotels in the area with it. The hotel has obviously been modernized and updated at some point so the money and effort should be put in to add AC since it’s needed more days than not despite the cooler temperatures outside. The included breakfast is good most days. Some days it’s a bit disappointing when they’ve run out of things or the eggs are way too watery. Though the fact there’s always a hot option is appreciated.

Lots of history and beautiful location. Close to Monterey and Cannery Row. Plan on spending all day (maybe 2 if you can).

The history of this place is so interesting! There is a lot to walk around and see and learn about. The room we stayed in was nice size, clean, and not run down at all. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well both nights. There is no air conditioning, but with a ceiling fan and the nice breeze coming through the open window we didn't need it. There is heating. My only complaints are the bathroom mirror is too high and there is no bathtub. I would like to have relaxed in a bath after a long day, but there was only a shower. There was dual shower heads though, so that was nice. I'm short, only 5'1", so I could only see from my nose up in the bathroom mirror because it is so high. I had to use the mirror in the bedroom area. Overall I definitely recommend staying at Monterey Navy Gateway Inn and Suites.

Love the historic nature of this hotel. Prices for rooms have gone up a lot! Carpets in rooms are dated. Beautiful hotel grounds!
