I recommend downloading the Laurel Hill App before visiting, and listen to an audio tour. We discovered that the 78 acre cemetery is not only the final resting place of famous Philly luminaries such as General Meade, Rittenhouse, and Harry Kalas (beloved announcer for the Phillies). But, you can also view the grave and photo of Robert Cornelius, who took the world's first selfie. The cemetery is a National Historic Landmark with lush landscaping overlooking the Schuylkill. It's free to visit, dog friendly, and you can park outside or along the roads inside. Do take a guided tour of Laurel Hill in the sunshine and with a flashlight for the full experience. Perenially on the list of "most haunted places" in Philly--you'll see why.

We live a few blocks from Laurel Hill Cemetery which is a treat to get to explore on a daily basis. Between the history, sights, peacefulness, calmness the cemetery overlooking Kelley Drive and the trails bring it is truly magnificent. The walks, runs and views are highly recommended. Thank you for the treasures!

Incredible, beautiful, and a macabre treasure well worth a visit if you're in the Philadelphia area. I visited in the afternoon on a Sunday, parking was very easy, and the cemetery wasnt crowded at all, which made the visit rather peaceful. I walked for almost 3 hours, and still didn't see everything there was to see. There's a great visitor's center with a gift shop. I purchased a mug, and the folks working there were very friendly. I'd give the experience 10 stars if I could, it was a perfect Sunday before driving back South.

Gourgeous, historic and on a hillside overlooking the Schuylkill River. Worth a walk around. Or go for one of the events that happens there. We biked out from Center City for a macabre craft fair, had a lovely afternoon and found some cool gifts.

Laurel Hill Cemetery is beautiful and filled with so much history. I have wanted to explore this Cemetery for a very long time. There is so much to explore, one day is not enough. It is open 7am to 7pm. I will be coming back to this landmark in Philadelphia.

A quiet, contemplative memorial park space that blends into Fairmount Park, with a history that goes back to before the Civil War. Walking, cycling, and picnics in the cemetery are encouraged while it is open.

The views, the history, the notables buried there all lead to a wonderful place to visit and even picnic there.

Kind of amazing. Walked through, saw lots of probable Civil War casualties (young men did not do so well in the mid 1860's, it would seem). General Meade and a naval hero from 1812 (Commodore Isaac... Hull, maybe?) and thousands of graves with monuments, obelisks, statues, mausoleums... I try not to walk on the graves though some people ( looking at all the dog walkers) don't exactly treat it with the due respect. Watch out for woodchuck holes, no idea where you're *supposed* to park (I ended up somewhere kinda sketchy), but other than that it's a guaranteed blast.

Possibly one of the best cemeteries in the country. Since they're "full" they have figured out how to thrive by engaging with their community with an active web presence, gift shop, and a very busy calendar of stuff to do ranging from concerts to tours to movie nights to car shows.

This cemetery is amazing. The grounds are wonderful to walk about. The cemetery has plenty of history, a nice overlook and the organization always has events scheduled for the community. I have plenty of photos of this place and it is a favorite location to visit when I come to Philly to visit.

Beautiful cemetery and there’s a good amount of street parking, however, I’m not sure why their website states, β€œThe parking lot areas located directly across the street from the Gatehouse entrance is also available for parking free of charge.” This isn’t true. Just FYI. EDIT: Thank you for the response!

Laurel Hill East is a beautiful place to stroll with amazing views of Kelly Drive and the Delaware River. It's also a great spot to visit if you want to escape the cityβ€”there's a peaceful atmosphere here, with plenty of green space and a cemetery that's serenely beautiful. There are plenty of street parking options so you can get there easily!

Incredibly beautiful! A perfect place to come to unwind, read a book under a shady tree and bond with nature. Excellent paths to do some exercise and see some amazing architecture and stone work. There is no bad time to go. Each season is different and holds something new to see.

Beautiful cemetery! There is so much history here. This is one of the most fascinating and historic places in the city of Philadelphia, with beautiful views overlooking the Schuylkill River. The perfect place to take a walk and learn something, they offer several tours and events year round to learn more about the cemetery and those who are buried here.

Large and beautiful cemetery. While I enjoy the concept of their movies in the cemetery events, and I like that it supports musicians and the cemetery, they are very poorly managed and not enjoyable at all. Firstly, it is too expensive for the experience you get. 12.50? For a movie I can watch on YouTube for free. Unless you come two hours early to waste your time so you can line up before it opens you will not have a good seat. You won't. There will be so much blocking your vision, and it will get progressively worse throughout the film. Also, it's impossible to enjoy the movie while everyone around you is talking, conversing annoyingly amongst themselves or wandering up and down in front of you the entire movie waving the flashlight on their phone back and forth in your face trying to give you a seizure. It's not worth it. At. All.

This is the place to visit . If you are a history lover or enjoy tracing the past this cemetery has it all. Civil War generals. Famous men and women from Philadelphia are all buried here. Baldwin, Widener, many others. They have tours and events daily and weekly here. I went on a ghost tour here years ago at night in the summer. It was fun and informative and the same time. They even had cheese, taco chips and some wine after the tour. A class act.

Awesome historic cemetery. Very important design and layout. They have a number of different outreach activities; movies in the cemetary (we saw Young Frankinstien), a 5k just in Laurel Hill, guides tours, self guided tours, and many many more fun things to do. (Who knew a cemetery could be fun!) They have a small museum and the staff are extremely helpful.

Without a doubt one of the most beautifiul spots in all of Philadelphia. I attended a tour called Designing for the Dead, an architecture focused tour. It was a two hour, comprehensive, entertaining tour for 15.00, including refreshments at the end. This was my first visit to this historically rich, lushly landscaped, hidden gem, but will not be my last!

What a perfect event! The musicians were absolutely incredible, not to mention funny and charming. Their musical set was a great combination of pop cultural and classic pieces, and every number was beautiful in its own way. I had chills so many times! Candlelight created a slightly spooky, but mostly just charming ambience in beautiful Laurel Hill and the whole event was very organized and well-thought out. I’m looking forward to attending other Candlelight events in the future. Thanks for such a wonderful birthday celebration!

It's beautiful and really peaceful. Very big so we only saw a small portion. There's self guided audio your signs in case you want more info. We wanted to explore by car but felt there wasn't enough signage and a very narrow road.
