We had such a great experience here. Jesse and Kristen both were just wonderful, from working with us to help us to get in in the first place to making sure we were matched up with just the right horse. They made sure we had a great experience, we loved the stories and how they make you feel like family. I highly recommend going here and we can’t wait to make another trip.

If going to Palo Duro Canyon or have limited time (at least 2 hours) than you need to include Palo Duro Riding Stables to your list of activities. It was so much more than I expected for a trail ride. It wasn't a typical trail ride. The views were amazing. The horses are well kept and cared for. The owners were easy to talk to and went out of their way to make it a great experience. It's a really great operation. The horses: They have several rescue horses in the mix. They take the time (sometimes years) to work with them and get them to trust again before they are added to the working group. At least once a week the herd is allowed to run freely in the canyon on their property. They know their horses and their personalities. You can see they are well cared for. They pair you up with a horse based on experience level and possibly personality. We were beginner level and horses are pretty much on auto pilot with a few directions here and there. The trail ride: Absolutely beautiful! Took so many photos. It's not in Palo Duro Park but just outside on private land. The trail itself goes down into the canyon and so you are going downhill and uphill. The guides (owners) space themselves through the group. At the bottom they take a group photo for you. They have saddle pommel bags that you can get (no charge) to store water bottles and phone or camera. They sit on the pommel, so easily accessible while riding. An SLR may fit, but could be tight depending on how big it is and how particular you are with it's handling. They will give you instructions on how to handle the horse before the ride. There are areas along the trail with brush, so definitely recommend long pants. With kids: We have 2 kids between the age of 5 and 10. They got their own horse and a guide that watched them or helped them if their horse needed a nudge. If the kids didn't need help, they didn't intervene and they weren't led on a lead like I've seen on other trail rides. They have modified stirrups that fit the kids so they were comfortable. The kids are still talking about the ride and how it was soooo easy and great riders they are and when are we going there again... so the kids will love it and an unexpected confidence boost. Communication: They may not answer the phone when you call as the owners are the guides and taking people out. Leave a message or text and they will respond later that day when they are available or the next. It is recommended to call a week or more out to schedule. It's likely you will not get a same day spot, but can always try. I apparently have a lot of things to say, and still haven't said it all. Highly recommend.

We rode today with the whole family (including the dogs) and had a great experience! Highly recommend. It's obvious they love their horses and land and make you feel welcome to join their world for just a little while. I rode Lilly and my husband rode Romeo; the horses are as sweet as the owners! As a bonus, we saw sheep high up in the canyon wall. It was a fantastic day; I'm glad we did it - worth every penny.

I rode with my niece (7 years old) on an hour & half tour. This was by far the best horse riding tour I’ve ever done. Most importantly because you can tell the horses here are deeply known & loved. They are not over worked or underfed. Jesse & Kristin are amazing. Great conversation & clearly know what they are doing. This is the kind of business you want to support! Family owned on a beautiful spot in Palo Duro Canyon. They made you feel like you were at home. It was truly an incredible experience.

Incredible experience! If you are unsure of what to do or who to book for horseback riding say no more. When calling to schedule a ride, Kristen was friendly and helpful. The place was easy to find. The staff made us feel at ease and comfortable throughout the entire experience. The history of this family was incredible to learn about and the views were amazing. I will definitely be back again. If there were more than 5 stars they would have them all.

Wow, this place is AMAZING! My husband and I have lived in Amarillo our entire lives and can’t believe this is the first time we’ve experienced this great adventure! It’s like you stepped back in time…riding horses down Palo Duro Canyon and taking in the stellar views. Kristin and Jesse are so friendly and taught us both how to ride in no time. They were great guides and provided such amazing history and stories of their life in the canyon. 5 STARS!!! Everyone should come & ride here! We will definitely be back again!

We had a great experience. Jesse, Kristen, and Cody Jo were the perfect hosts for a trail ride in the Palo Duro canyon. The horses were great and the trails were awesome. The host’s knowledge of the canyon was very informative and the fact that they were carrying on a family tradition was heart warming. If you want to experience and immerse yourself in the history of the Palo Duro canyon you need to take this ride. We definitely enjoyed our experience.

My son, who had never rode a horse before, and I had a great experience riding into the canyon with our guides Jesse and Kristen. The horses were well trained and gentle and full of personality. Almost more than our hosts Jesse & Kristen! Loved hearing stories of the history of the canyon, Jesse’s family, and the local wildlife. Aoudad, hawks and box turtles were spotted along our ride. We felt well taken care of as newbies from New Hampshire. Jesse and Kristen were so engaging with us and came locally recommended from owners of the cabins we stayed at just down the road. I can see why. Bucket list item to ride a horse in Texas! And they made our experience exactly what we had hoped for.

Our family took a trail ride in the canyon with the Palo Duro Riding Stables family and loved every second. Fun, personable guides. Fabulous scenery. Great stories about wildlife, horse personalities, and generations of life on the land. It was a delight and easily our favorite activity of the whole trip.

What an Awe-Inspiring trail ride with a truly authentic cowboy family that love the canyons and their horses on the same level as they love their family!!! We were blown away by the genuine hospitable shown to us by Jesse, Kristen, Kodi Jo, and Cash! They are teaching their children how to love animals, nature, and their fellow brother from an early age… PLEASE do not pass up the opportunity to witness Texas Hospitality at its FINEST! This stable is the place to be for rich history and beautiful sites of the Canyon that cannot be seen anywhere else! ***Bonus points for the majestic Mountain Gazelle & fascinating snake skin we scored during our trip*** Will he be back??? ABSOLUTELY & we will bring more friends/family!!!

This was a absolutely amazing experience! Jesse and his family are so nice and made me feel comfortable I was nervous to ride a horse. They took there time and instructed everyone individually and answered all my questions before going out on the trail. The trail was so beautiful it was Turley the best way to visit the canyon. I cant recommend them enough and hope to be back to visit one day!

Brought our grandkids over the holidays to camp in Palo Duro. Their highlight was horseback riding into that canyon. This is a family run outfit on private land and worth the fee. Horses were well mannered and we'll cared for. Owners knowledgeable about all things ranching and the canyon. Great resources of info and even a great recommendation for burgers after the ride. Highly recommend.

Multi-generational family owned stables, and even the horses are family here. Jimmy and his family made us feel like we were at home. We rode Forrest, Coyote, and Red for our birthday rides. The horses needed little guidance and made for an enjoyable ride where we could take in beautiful landscape and wildlife along the way. Thank you for your hospitality! We will be back in the summer for sure… maybe we will bring the rest of the clan.

Such a fun ride. It’s family owned and ran which was a plus for us. We were greeted by Ripley a very friendly little corgi Cody Jo was a great guide. To hear the history of their property at the canyon was good also. Definitely worth the stop and ride. Forrest was well behaved and Coyote liked to stop along the way.

What an an amazing experience! It felt like I was riding with my own friends. They all were so friendly and helpful. Our sons Mitchell and Taylor have never rode a horse before and Taylor was very scared. Their daughter Cody age of 8 took him under her wing to ride next to him and with in five minutes he felt right at home on top of his horse. So cool!!! Thank you all so much!!!

This is an amazing family owned business! The trails are amazing and the horses are so well behaved. I had never ridden a horse on my own and I felt so comfortable and safe the entire time. Please do not go anywhere else! I can’t wait to come back and do this all over again. Make sure to book a few months in advance though! It’s a great place so spots fill up quickly.

Took a morning tour at Palo Duro Riding Stables. I had never rode a horse and felt nervous. As soon as my brother and I arrived- everyone including Cody Joe was kind and showed great prowess and experience. We rode around and into the canyon and I had a great time. If you have a chance, you have to try this for yourself! Truly a life experience that you will remember forever.

This was an amazing experience for my family. The family who runs this are several generations down in owning and managing it and hearing their stories while in the trail was so fun. The horses are so gentle and calm, you can tell they’re well cared for. My children had an amazing time and I hope some day they come back with their own kids and ride the trail again with the next generation!

Me and one of my girlfriends went horseback riding with Jesse and Christine, we choose the morning 90 minute ride. Horses are tame and it's a great story about this 5 generation family owned business. The views are amazing and it was probably just about the most perfect weather! Thank you both for the ride, chat and hospitality! Y'all are pretty cool people!
