Food was good, but not special- very pricey for what you get. When I pay fine dining prices I expect to love all aspects of my experience. When I checked reviews for this place, I saw mostly 5-star and that it was listed as fine dining so I went in excited and with high expectations. Here’s what I did experience: Service was good. They weren’t ready for us at our reservation time but were only a couple mins late on that so not a big deal. Waitress and host both friendly. Food was okay. My husband got the half and half— pretty good. I got the chicken phyllo.. not as good. It wasn’t bad, but there just wasn’t a ton of flavor to it? It was chicken and artichoke in pastry with a sweetish sauce- and all of the elements were average, not even great. Also, I got honey sweet potato as a side and it just didn’t taste like anything I couldn’t make at home- very basic, not fine dining style, and more like a dessert than side. The salad was some greens, a few peppers cut up small, and a tiny bit of cheese (maybe goat or blue) crumbled onto it with a sweetish dressing. Again, nothing that felt like a fine dining culinary experience. Which leads to- everything on the place was “sweetish”. The flavors didn’t feel balanced and for dinner I expect savory. I hoped for more, for sure. The plus is it seems like food is high quality and organic, and says local-sourced which is great. Ambience- we sat upstairs which was a little quirky and a bit of a weird decor style for my taste to be honest. It wasn’t the “classy” style. It didn’t feel like fine dining, it felt like a fun diner or a normal restaurant. Maybe something like Yaks in Dunsmir which I LOVE because they are what they advertise as, and their prices are too. A plus though is everything felt clean! Overall, I think if prices reflected the value of what you got here I’d have liked it more. $15-30 a meal feels reasonable value for what we ate. Instead, we paid $104 after taxes and a 15% tip (that’s with no drinks, apps or desserts).

I took my wife here for our anniversary, and it was simply sublime. Lindsey was our server, and was incredibly attentive, punctual, and helpful with suggestions. We started with the roasted garlic and oysters, had snapper and NY, and reveled in the decadence of their goat cheese cheesecake. The atmosphere was perfect and the restaurant was wonderfully empty - our table felt like an island in the clouds overlooking the garden. The price is perfect, and most of the reviewers stating that it is high are simply living above their station. There was only one unenjoyable aspect - we had forgotten to bring bigger stomachs! If you are a person of good taste and good standing, unlike the boorish naysayers, then you will thoroughly enjoy Larrupin'!

Legendary destination restaurant! For as many times as I’ve been in Humboldt County, I wish I could have dined here as much. Not the case, but when I do it has always been exceptional. The ambiance, the food, and the service have always been an experience. Every community deserves a place like this to call their own. My lamb chops were done perfectly as everything served with them was delicious. The bonus was having Cypress Grove Cheese served with the welcome platter. 😉

So yummy. Steak was delicious. Ingredients are local and it’s evident in the taste. I had the ny steak with the twice baked potatoes Ambiance is nice. The scenery with the outdoor seating is exceptional.

Michelle said her steak was the she has ever had. I loved my filet and prawns with asparagus. The dessert, a creamy thing with raspberry drizzle whose name escapes me, was amazing. The best jazz plays in this elegant venue. You would have a hard time finding a better dinner anywhere. Staff were very nice also, and it was reasonably priced. We will go every time we are in the Redwood belt up north.

A unique and intimate experience, a destination worth visiting. The ambiance sets the mood for relaxing indulgences. This place seemingly takes you a step back in time, and fosters an environment to present and simply ‘enjoy the moment’. Menu options were ample, with plenty of variety for any discerning palate. Service was expected with attentive staff. The crème brûlée was perfection!

Overall it was a nice experience. Service was excellent, although I'd say upscale bar and grill feel, not really fine dining. Only a few vegetarian options. The food was good, but a bit all over the place. The portobello mushroom dish came with cold salad on the same plate overloaded with hot veggies. It was a bit of a soggy mess. The cheese board was ok but not amazing. Dessert was good. Not really a fan of the decor and carpet on the tables. Would be good if there was a consistent theme all round.

Loved the atmosphere and vibe! Randy was an excellent waiter- polite, gave great recommendations, and really sold the food options well, especially dessert! The food was good, nice portions with a wide variety of flavors. The salmon was a bit dry, but with the sauce it turned out fine. The meal presentation made the whole meal wonderful and of course dessert to end a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend if you are in the Trinidad area and are looking for a different kind of place.

One of the best meals we have ever enjoyed in California. The food was manna from heaven, every bite delicious, every dish perfectly prepared and the libations tasted as of the nectar of the gods! The service was impeccable, prompt and attentive. And eating in the beautiful garden became almost a religious experience. And all for a relatively reasonable price. Definitely, Ten Stars!!!

One of the finest dining experiences ever! They kindly seated us without reservations. Beautiful patio dining outdoors. Complimentary charcuterie board with amazing delicacies on it. Carpaccio was exquisite. Smoked meats for me, and my wife had mesquite grilled snapper. They were both amazing. Our server, Shelly, was so wonderful and added to the amazing experience. GO TO THIS PLACE!!!

One of my favorite restaurants. The rugs on the table tops are pretty awesome. You can definitely get favorite dishes. The menu is pretty consistent minus the specials.

Intimate cozy upscale and comfortable restaurant with Great Local and In house specialties. I was pleased with the vegan/vegetarian options and the Tofu Kebabs are huge and yummy. Great appetizers and local seafood. The oysters are a great option for those who eat seafood and the Waitstaff was very nice and well informed about the menu. She was just wonderful! The seating was great as well and we had a great table tucked away upstairs. It is a bit expensive but perfect for Special occasions or indulgence!

We were redirected towards this part of the redwood forest after a blizzard shut down i-5. We had no idea that this establishment needed a reservation but Courtney the door staff/server was remarkably kind and was able to get us a seat upstairs for the evening. Lindsey our main server was kind, gracious, engaging and personable. Not once did we feel ushered into a corner or rushed through our dining experience due to our seating circumstances. The atmosphere here is a cozy cottage meets contemporary art house with a single Chihuly chandelier gracing the central staircase. Turkish style rugs line the tables with glass tops assisting the warm tone, lowly lit space. Fresh Lilly flowers are placed throughout the space lending a delicate fragrance to your experience. The food itself is the best in the woods. For those familiar with Elgacho in Seattle, there is a limited menu but it is fresh, locally sourced, and well prepared by the chef. You won't get a flaming sword with your filet mignon, but this establishment seems to best serve reliable, well known plates with a slight twist of refinement found in their appetiser board flavors, wine paring, and presentation. If you're hesitant about the price to plating, I assure you, you'll receive a full plate of food with each course. Arguably there is a time/place for a single leaf lettuce with half a cherry tomato "salad" but this is not the place for that. You'll certainly be full before dessert. And yes, you can take the rest home for midnight munching. Overall, if you find yourself driving the 101 I highly recommend a little pre planning to enjoy a meal at this establishment. (which I'm told also offers outdoor seating in warmer months if you're worried about Covid). We will certainly stop by again.

I've always heard about this restaurant but never been near enough to try it. Finally was in the neighborhood just at early dinner time and we popped in w/o a reservation. The staff was able to seat us for a fine dining experience. I call this a $50 a plate affair with good beer & wine selections. The service is friendly and professional. The food was well prepared and tasty. The decor warm & comfortable. This place has been in business for a few decades so they're doing something right. I would eat here again for fine dining.

I had dinner at the Larrupin Cafe. Staff was very friendly, parking was easy to find and the food was great. I ordered a New York steak; it was juicy and tasty. I highly recommend it.

All was very good, but as some past comments I noted made the point of cost to value. My meal was the spicy Brisket and Ribs dish. While it was tasty, I can’t say the price justified the flavor. I did enjoy the flavor of the BBQ sauce. The twice-baked potato was tasty too. I really do enjoy the atmosphere of Larrupin. The location and this place on a rainy evening made it awesome too. I still recommend Larrupin.

We ate here in July and had a great experience, started a bit rough standing in the entryway looking for a host for 5 minute. It was busy so forgivable and the food was excellent which always makes up for other inadequacies. Crab cakes were really good and our dinners were damn good. One of the better eating experiences we had in the area.

Finest dining in all of Humboldt County by far. Elegant, sophisticated and consistently delicious! Once went with a large party of 15+ and still every plate was served timely and correctly. Wish it was closer to me.

The decor was elegant and worldly. Our waitress Tamera was exceptional and knew the menu inside out. I would suggest turning up the lights a notch. Our dinners were prepared by an experienced chef. A nice presentation and an array of flavors to seduce the pallette. A great date atmosphere or a gem location to treat your significant other.
