Absolutely amazing that almost a year later and their phones still don't work. I live in Florida now. They have my marriage license at the office and I've waited on hold multiple times for FOUR hours each time and it just disconnects you. FOUR HOURS! Now today I've called 4 times and each time I have been disconnected. Our tax money goes to these building to operate and they should be operating better than this. This is absolutely absurd. Almost a year later, there is no reason this should still be happening.

It took 25 minutes for one of the representatives to pick up the phone, when we finally got to speak to them and let them know my situation the representative hang up the phone, how do I know this? Because this has happened many times. I also told the representative to please call my phone number if the phone gets “disconnected “, but I never got a phone call back. Please shut down this office if you are not going to do your job.

Absolutely unacceptable experience. Had a call scheduled for months. Being disabled, and having had recent surgery, I haven’t been able to keep up with my bills, so my phone got shut off. I called from my partner’s phone, as I should have, and let the SSA know the phone number they could reach me at. I was assured they would call my partner’s phone number and NOT mine. No call ever came, after months of waiting. I called the office and explained what was happening, they said someone tried to call at the scheduled time but the phone had been disconnected. Right. That’s why I gave them the correct number to reach me at. They said, at 3:00 pm, that they were closing soon and there was nothing they could do for me. They close at 4:00 pm. They set a new appointment for me again, months away. This is absolutely ludicrous. I did everything I was supposed to do, including update the way you all were supposed to contact me, and through the fault of your administration, not mine, you squashed the only opportunity I have. I don’t think you all understand that I am drowning, and a system that I have paid into for years, and have supported financially, should at the very least be able to connect me to a supervisor. I paid for this system to work for me when I needed it to, and it is absolute garbage that it does not.

If I could leave no stars I would. Impossible to get through to this office. I sat on hold just to have my call either dropped or hung up on. I kept calling back for about an hour finally someone answered but dropped my call before I could even say anything. I am recently married and need to change my name there is NO WAY I am mailing my original Social Security Card, Drivers License or any other document to this office!!! They can't even answer the phone let alone trust them with your ORIGINAL Legal Documents. ABSOLULTE WORST for a Government Agency this is totally unacceptable!!!!

I read several reviews here and can't figure out why my experience was so different, but my appointment with the Poughkeepsie SSA was the quickest, least painful experience I've ever had. As of July 2021, the SSA office has resumed in-person service on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, by appointment only. I called at 2pm on Tuesday (7/6) and was able to speak with someone who got me an appointment for 9:30am the next day (7/7). I got parking on the street, right outside the front doors, arrived on time, was seen immediately, and --- six minutes later --- I was done! The person who assisted me (window 25) was incredibly nice, personable, and helpful. I wish I remembered her name.

Why be mean and snotty? My loved one was spoken to very harshly on the phone here. He's a nice person, as well as prepared with all the proper info. There was no reason for the worker to be rude to him. It was uncalled for. Why be this way? Would you talk to your grandparent with such a nasty spirit? Shame on you. Also, this worker said this office is completely closed to all in-person visits. Is this true? It contradicts what the website says. (Feb 2023.)

*EDIT* If you have a bad experience with this office, call your congressman and senators. They will open a case and hopefully make some changes. I called to apply for a new social security number for my infant. I had to call twice and speak to two different agents over the course of three hours. The first agent thought it was "weird" that my child didn't automatically get his social security number. He told me there was nothing I could do about it and that my tax refund was good for up to three years later. This is both terrible advice and untrue. Interlude: I called the office in Hudson where the agent told me that I should apply for a new SSN and to call the Poughkeepsie office again. I called Poughkeepsie again, it took 5 tries to get an agent because the automated phone system kept hanging up my call. When I finally got an agent, he was impatient with me. I asked if I could have an in-person appointment, and he repeated the same canned line about only accepting applications via mail. I expressed my hesitation about sending original documents via mail when I have no way to track the status of the application. He then gave me grief about how it's only 90 days and that at least I wasn't applying for a passport! Then when I told him I was frustrated because I was having trouble finding information, he said: "C'mon, sir, it's not that hard." File that under things you shouldn't say to a frustrated and stressed new parent. This office is supposed to provide customer service. I can't imagine most people are voluntarily calling SSA for fun. The absolute least they could do is to train their agents to be helpful and respectful.

Trying to have a phone meeting since they want to interview in regards to my son’s services. They don’t even have the correct number to call and the date they gave me I’m unable to do due to a medical situation (life threatening). I have explained and left numerous messages. Left the correct phone number no reply. I did get a call one day from a unidentified Poughkeepsie number and called it back didn’t know who it was or if that was even the office. I have no idea if they are going to take away my sons services. It’s disgusting and now wondering if I should get a lawyer to protect what little my son gets.

took two days of repeated calling to get ahold of someone. Was told conflicting info from what was on the website. Sent in my marriage certificate and form 3 months ago and still no fixed card. My wife still doesn’t have an updated Id or ss card. Its been almost 6 months.

I would give no stars at all. Why is it so difficult for this institution to function? When one calls, after a 5 minute spiel, they tell you how busy they are and to call back later, then they hang up on you. Does anybody at the SS office even read the complaints posted online? The Help desk? "Sorry it's not available right now"

Ms. GARCIA is the absolute WORST representative of the Poughkeepsie Social Security Administration office. Completely unprofessional, arrogant, rude, useless, and incapable of being truthful. Customer service sucks to the absolute highest. We now go to the Local Congressman Office. Gave 1 * only because i had to.

The lady behind the counter was polite & helpful. It was sad to see the security guard treat people with such disrespect- especially minorities. He clearly does not want to be there.

They Never answer the phone, keeps you waiting over a half hour every time then just disconnects. I have called everyday at different times of the day, from multiple phone lines. And to know that most of the people who receive SSI/SSD are disabled in some manner, how dare they be so unprofessional and hard to get in contact with.

If I could give -5 stars I would. No one answers the phone but it says phone assistants or appointment only...I’ve been trying to get a ss card for my 5 month old and I can’t get a hold of anyone. I have called almost everyday for 3 weeks and it puts me on hold and then hangs up. I just don’t understand how a federal business is so unprofessional!!!

I hate that I have to deal with this office being that it's in Dutchess County and I live in Ulster County, -☆s. I have been dealing with this office the past few months after I had a form faxed to their office 4/14 and called to confirm it was received 2xs 4/18 & 4/25, for them to send a letter a month later 5/18 saying it wasn't received, then to hear there was an in-office miscommunication on 5/23. Then they tell me they are processing it on 6/6, call 3 wks later to hear they are just starting to process it. My case worker, I have left 3 messages with no call back. You get rude people, who while talking to them, will put you on hold and come back on the phone telling you they are "listening" yet can't repeat what you just said. It's frustrating to deal with this place. You have to call multiple times to get to a person or because the call was disconnected. They will constantly tell you they have phone problems. Why is this the only location for Ulster residents? They will tell you they do not have the number to make a complaint, and to look it up online. It will take 180 days for the complaint to be seen, supposedly. They messed up with my case and they are trying to avoid it by making it seem like I didn't do anything about it in a timely manner. I have a paper trail to back it up. Who do I have to go to, being an Ulster County resident for this Dutchess County office to get it together? The people there obviously don't like to or care to do their job.

Don’t know how a government building can be closed on days they say they are open with no notice other than a sheet of paper on the door…

Was told to call their office directly - it's been impossible to reach anyone! on hold for 25 minutes and the hold music stops and nothing...........happens over and over....been trying for literally weeks to get through to someone. I've faxed, I've mailed papers - spent a fortune to do so and no response. Hire more staff - do something!

How do you get a hold of them?! I have called repeatedly, it’s busy or hangs up. My daughters stuff was sent in 2 month ago and I was told 2-4 weeks. I have heard nothing and I have NO way to get a hold of them to get her stuff back or even her SSN.

After checking online to make sure Poughkeepsie office was open I drove 45minutes ...put money in meter ..got to door to find it locked!! Sign on door said to call a 1-877 number & it's been busy each time I've called (12x!) So...yeah I'm disappointed

The representative I had was very cold and uncaring. In addition, when I was getting up to leave, she did not even ask if there was anything she could assist me with. This is a very unacceptable to to treat people. Awful.

Not one damn number listed under Google is the correct number! I've called, Poughkeepsie, Hudson, glens falls, Albany....ALL OF THEM HAVE NOTHING BUT A BUSY TONE! I need to get ahold of the office to retrieve my sons s.s card but the numbers are inaccurate! DO BETTER GOOGLE!

Sign in was easy at the kiosk. Wait time depends on th e needs of the people ahead of you Pretty efficient operation. Make sure you have all required documentation before visit.

Honestly more streamlined than I anticipated. This was my first time visiting a social security office so wasn’t really sure what to expect. I appreciated the kiosk where you get your ticket number, sit down, and wait to be called. (The less people I have to talk to, the better.) I waited for about 30 minutes before going to my window where my clerk was very friendly. I had my SS info updated which took only a few minutes.

Have only had success with this office by physically going there - although it is an hour+ away. Just tried to call and check on status of a spousal benefits application submitted TEN weeks ago - waited an hour on hold, then was on the phone for 45 minutes with a rep who had no idea what she was doing and constantly put me on hold. I requested she transfer me to a more experienced rep and in trying to do so, she disconnected me. GRRR.

In November 2022, I sent in W-4V forms requesting taxes to be withheld from my monthly benefits. Didn't happen. In July 2023, I sent forms once more. I asked someone at the SSA main office when it would take effect and they told me they have no records of having received my forms. What gives with the Poughkeepsie office? Albert
